Despite the absolute carnival of shite being thrown at us we are amazing.

That we can laugh even through this nonsense is fantastic.

Keep on keeping on. We will win and we will celebrate ❤️

@CaveMum

It appears from comments this morning that Mr Lammy thinks it’s possible for a Transwoman to grow their own cervix due to hormones

Perhaps we should help the poor confused dear out by printing off this diagram provided by Dr Emma Hilton and posting it to him?

Alright. Which one of you vipers has been hoarding all the Science?
Gumbomambo · 29/09/2021 10:25

My mum is a bit obsessive with the cleaning and throws things out all the time, she never kept any of the “tat” I brought home from school but she does have a very large stacking box full of perfectly filed rights. She doesn’t do anything with them but as she says “you never know when they might come in handy”. It’s in the loft next to the Christmas decorations.

My favourite bit of hoarding is the right for women to maintain some access to her children on divorce. It gets right up MRA noses. So unfair of us!

TyrannysaurusXXrightshoarder · 29/09/2021 10:11

Ok come on now, own up, which one of you did this? Grin. Spinosaurus note, not Spinelessosaurus….And Hell Heron? It’s got a ring to it! I’m loving your work….Grin

@TyrannysaurusXXrightshoarder

I’m hoarding rights with my teeny TRex arms, my current favourite is the 1928 Equal Voting Rights for Women (all women, not just the posh ones with a house), and I’ll be using it to ensure I don’t accidentally vote for anyone who doesn’t like my terrible lizardy hoarding tendencies.
I’m not sure a T-Rex could hoard many rights with those wee arms.

Well as far as I can make out from all the incoherent burble emanating from our opposition government in waiting, if they're vets, engineers and lawyers they're probably NB, or else they're all dinosaurs.

I'm not sure vets are allowed, seeing as vets sure as hell need to identify male and female livestock. OTOH, even the most righteous blue-haired aporagender maverique would be mighty unimpressed if served a mug of tea containing the white fluid from a bull rather than a cow.

I’ve been hoarding the 1919 sex disqualification act which allowed women to become vets, engineers, lawyers etc. I think it’s about time I threw it out as times have changed and these are nowadays obviously men’s jobs and no one needs this act in there confusing people.

I didn't realise Brave New World was that close!

I'd forgotten so I must re-read it because it's so on-point. I think that I'd started to overlook it because I was so persuaded by Postman's Amusing Ourselves to Death (IYSWIM):

But we had forgotten that alongside Orwell’s dark vision, there was another—slightly older, slightly less well known, equally chilling: Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World. Contrary to common belief even among the educated, Huxley and Orwell did not prophesy the same thing. Orwell warns that we will be overcome by an externally imposed oppression. But in Huxley’s vision, no Big Brother is required to deprive people of their autonomy, maturity and history. As he saw it, people will come to love their oppression, to adore the technologies that undo their capacities to think.

What Orwell feared were those who would ban books. What Huxley feared was that there would be no reason to ban a book, for there would be no one who wanted to read one. Orwell feared those who would deprive us of information. Huxley feared those who would give us so much that we would be reduced to passivity and egoism. Orwell feared that the truth would be concealed from us. Huxley feared the truth would be drowned in a sea of irrelevance. Orwell feared we would become a captive culture. Huxley feared we would become a trivial culture, preoccupied with some equivalent of the feelies, the orgy porgy, and the centrifugal bumblepuppy. As Huxley remarked in Brave New World Revisited, the civil libertarians and rationalists who are ever on the alert to oppose tyranny “failed to take into account man’s almost infinite appetite for distractions.” In 1984, Huxley added, people are controlled by inflicting pain. In Brave New World, they are controlled by inflicting pleasure. In short, Orwell feared that what we hate will ruin us. Huxley feared that what we love will ruin us.
We'll end up like the remains of the people on wards who are mocked by the children undergoing death-conditioning in Brave New World - in fact, a fair amount of this sounds more familiar and relevant to the general travel of contemporary events than I'd recalled.

www.penguin.co.uk/articles/2017/margaret-atwood-introduces-a-brand-new-world.html
I just read that introduction by Attwood: "Babies are no longer born, they’re grown in hatcheries, their bottles moving along assembly lines, in various types and batches according to the needs of ‘the hive’, and fed on ‘external secretion’ rather than ‘milk’. The word ‘mother’ – so thoroughly worshipped by the Victorians – has become a shocking obscenity"

Oh, the strikethrough didn’t work!

Vaginasaurus · 29/09/2021 08:06

This thread, and others of this type, is why I love this section of Mumsnet.

You are the most wonderful bunch of —dinosaurs— women on the web!

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 29/09/2021 07:35

Ooh another right I have just discovered in my bathroom cabinet as I cleaned my teeth - the one my grandmother didn’t have - was staying in her civil service job after she got married! That was only in the 1930s.

Can I mention a right the women in my family have been hoarding since 1882 - the Married Women's Property Act ?
Not only did it allow married women to hold & control own property in their own right, it gave the married woman a separate legal entity from that of her husband

GAHgamel · 29/09/2021 02:58

@JoodyBlue

My favourite discovery of a hoarded right was the right for women to be served in pubs which has been hoarded since 1982. If we give that one back, I wonder if the rights clamourers will be quite as keen on opting into the no-fun-fest. Maybe they will just choose to disguise themselves as men on a night out.
Ah now that explains why my mum always refuses to go to the bar herself, as she was already married with kids by the time that one came in.
ChattyLion · 29/09/2021 02:46

I’ve had to scrape a bit of mould off the top of a few of mine from a while back. I must have used some and then forgot to store them in the fridge. Whoops! Still taste OK tho.
Reminded me to crack on with using the ones I’ve already got before I get given any more in future..

I need to go to bed. I read that Fitt found her dead dad stuffed under her mattress ConfusedGrin

It was only earlier this year that the ECJ made a decision on Equal Pay - and issue that has been unresolved since equal pay was introduced in the 1970s.

Can woman have hoarded a right that has been available legally but not operationalised for them almost 50 years on?

Odense · 28/09/2021 23:51

See, now in all seriousness that’s fucking scary, @WorkingItOutAsIGo

A bunch of (being charitable) well meaning do gooders trying to,be all nice and inclusive. They just haven’t got a fucking clue how recent and how damn fragile women’s rights are. Even in the UK. Nevermind anywhere else.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-58709353

That article on the bbc news website. Now the taliban are back, female judges are being hunted down by the violent criminals they put away. 20 years those women have had rights. Gone overnight.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 28/09/2021 23:30

So as someone long married but rather irked with her much beleaguered DH this evening, I opened the drawer of my bedside table and gosh what came rushing out?! Not only my right to submit my tax affairs separately from my DH (which I didn’t have when we got together) and (praise be) my right to decline his amorous advances despite being married to him (which I also didn’t have when we got together).

Crankyoldboiler · 28/09/2021 23:18

I'm really busy hoarding my right not to be raped and murdered by a violent and abusive partner and for him to get off with a justification of hot sex gone wrong - oops, sorry. I didn't have my specs on. That one seems to not exist when I look more closely.
