Just turned on and heard this. It seems WH is really going for it this week with this issue. Making up for lost time.

Seems to be about RMW's work as a lawyer.

Clarity yet again that female humans can explain their needs and problems carefully, over and over andfuckingover again, as patiently and thoroughly as they like on a 1:1 basis..

and the male person involved still sees and hears nothing except what they personally want and need. And will use their more powerful voice to get it. Without giving a toss for the voices, needs and feelings of mere females.

Hence: absolute no to ending female only spaces for females who want and need them that exclude all males. Any good will is long, long gone.

Jaysmith71 · 28/09/2021 11:18

Gay men were never excluded from men's toilets. They were followed into them and arrested when they smiled at a police officer. So is that the parallel?

OvaHere · 28/09/2021 11:17

It seems to be the latest talking point that not being able to take your penis into the female changing room is just like South African apartheid.

Not only is it a crass argument it's a completely back to front one because if any group in this weak analogy is the equivalent to white SA power it's male people.

Waitwhat23 · 28/09/2021 11:16

I don't think I've ever seen a thread about RMW without Robin themselves coming on to make a carefully couched, ever so slightly threatening comment about other posters needing to be careful about what they say.

It's as predictable as night following day (and there's normally a plug for the book too).

Helleofabore · 28/09/2021 11:11

No surprises. It sounded like a replay of all the threads Robin visits on Mn.

MidsomerMurmurs · 28/09/2021 11:10

@IamNotDarling

This persons advice is that degree of nakedness and also a persons’ stage of their transition is relevant when determining if it’s proportionate to exclude from single sex services.

Keeps bringing out comparisons with gay rights.

I’m getting strong AGP vibes.

Yeah so rapists in female prisons is just fine so long as they remain clothed.

That is a truly hot take on this issue.

They have a twitter account. Unfortunately I'm one of the twitter banned otherwise I'd tweet them.

BoreOfWhabylon · 28/09/2021 11:07

@OvaHere if anyone knows Legal Feminist, perhaps they could suggest she contacts WH.

BoreOfWhabylon · 28/09/2021 11:06

I think Emma is doing a very good job on this subject recently.

OvaHere · 28/09/2021 11:06

A couple of blogs from Legal feminist about RMW including a review of Robin's book.

BoreOfWhabylon · 28/09/2021 11:05

Just listening now. Emma said that RMW had written into the programme touting their book, hence the invitation to the programme.

I have seen the book criticised as not being accurate though. Perhaps someone with knowledge of this could write into WH to let them know.

Lolapusht · 28/09/2021 11:05

“Can calling a trans woman a biological male constitute hate speech?”…”Yes, it can”….????

I thought it was actually being a Reasoned Debate but that seems a bit extreme! So people are not allowed to ask any questions but they also need to educate themselves around the issues?! Surely if you are identifying as a different gender/sex then you have to accept that some people may be curious or may not be accepting and you cannot deny or ignore who you were before you started identifying as something different ie if you have female biology you will probably have to speak to a doctor about that biology and if you ID as male then you may have to give HCPs a heads up that you don’t have male biology. That expectation isn’t transphobic or anti-trans it’s just logical.

Confused

Tldr: Robin if you have to bring in a race analogy, males (of any gender ID and none) are the white people

Robin neatly headed off this inconvenient truth by holding up the Hidden Figures women of NASA as their reference point, using the struggles of black women as their own trojan horse.

EB was polite and did a good job of maintaining an impartial stance, which I'm assuming she had been ordered to do after recent programmes. (But I did notice when she ended the article she thanked ROBIN Moira White, with the emphasis very much on the first name.)

Radio is always an interesting medium for these discussions.

PaleGreenGhost · 28/09/2021 11:01

@WinterTrees

Talking about sex segregation as if it's as harmful as race segregation, which just shows how someone who had grown up as a male and transitioned in their 40s can't really understand what it's like to be female in a meaningful way.
No excuse for that either, given the amount of time Robin spends on this board. How many times have posters patiently pointed out the difference between racial segregation (imposed by whites, to the advantage of white people, in order to keep structural power) and sex segregation (fought for by females, in order to mitigate some of the structural & physical powers males have).

Tldr: Robin if you have to bring in a race analogy, males (of any gender ID and none) are the white people.

CharlieParley · 28/09/2021 11:00

Well, female survivors of male violence receiving counselling from a rape crisis centre are fully dressed. It's still not appropriate for that to be mixed-sex.

Is RMW misrepresenting the content of the Equality Act 2010, perchance?

IamNotDarling · 28/09/2021 10:58

This is absolutely batshit. According to RMW say that can be threatening to point out biological reality, and according to them hate speech.

Why did they go “ugh” when she mentioned toilets?

This person’s audible sigh when toilets were mentioned was very telling.

Floisme · 28/09/2021 10:48

Dammit I'm going into a meeting so can't listen. I am all for giving Robin as much sunlight as possible. Hope Emma asks about the book.
