Pronoun declarers: is "bodies with vaginas" OK, too far, just right?

The Lancet has chosen to replace the word for the sex class of women with bodies with vaginas but still refers to men rather than bodies with penises . Do you see this as:

– a much needed progression;
– something you wholeheartedly support in its entirety;
– something that makes you a bit uncomfortable;
– in need to correction so that men are scrotum-havers or bodies with penises;
– something you facilitated but didn't intend;
– an unrelated issue to your choice to use pronouns in your email sigs etc.

I’ll have a dig. Definitely a “sorry if you silly airheads were offended BUT the most marginalised (TM), intersex, etc...”

Gncq · 27/09/2021 21:34

Have they even published a sorry not sorry? That's start....

KittenKong · 27/09/2021 20:34

Anyone seen their sorry not sorry (you dumb little bodies with vaginas, shut up because...)?

KittenKong · 26/09/2021 09:47

It’s in the telegraph today. I mentioned it to my sister yesterday (we haven’t discussed the topic - she is very west coasty, 3 wokey 20/30 something daughters) - she brought up the whole Scotland schools gender switchwroo (and not telling parents). She is particularly angry because she is primary school teacher (of 40 years) and one of her girls would have been Fred these days. My god she is furious. Then I mentioned condoms in womans jails near her (she hasn’t heard that!)

PrincessNutella · 26/09/2021 02:17

Bodies with vaginas? Are they talking about mares? Fillies? Geese? Hens? What kind of bodies with vaginas?

miri1985 · 25/09/2021 23:19

Can you identify into being a body with a vagina? Can you identify out of being a body with a vagina? We've been told for ages that identity trumps biology so why not say women

I keep thinking about that incorrect piece of trivia that people used to say that Inuits had 100 words for snow. Are we getting to the place where we'll have a 100 words for women for people who are too scared to say the word women?

DaisiesandButtercups · 25/09/2021 20:43

Cunts and cocks will be easier and quicker and take less ink when we get to that point.

Then hopefully we can simply have separate spaces for cunts and cocks for the privacy and dignity of both and the safety of the cunts.

Perhaps we will all be walking around naked from the waist down in this brave new world.

Don’t the gender ideologues ever think about the end point of their linguistic contortions? They are surely set to destroy the thing they want. I suppose that is the way with the unattainable, you never can reach the end of the rainbow after all. However much you chase it remains beyond your grasp then disappears entirely.

And yeah bodies, I am thinking dead or enslaved. Objectified. An object. This is so tied to porn culture. We are pieces of meat with a hole in or something? A sex toy or an incubator? Surely this is the epitome of dehumanising.

gotalottolose · 25/09/2021 15:06

This is far too humanising for me. I prefer to be called ‘a front hole with tits’ cheers.

4BlueTowers · 25/09/2021 15:06

@MarshmallowSwede

A few other terms we can use for men:

Salami slapper
Wanker
Sperm producer
Prostate haver

and as someone on another thread said;

'Dicks with dicks. '

@purplejungle

I know this board is meant to be an echo chamber where we all leave you to your views... but since you asked explicitly, no it doesn't bother me in the slightest. There are so many more issues that are worth actually worrying about.
@purplejungle that's fine, you and whoever wants to can all yourselves whatever the penis people tell you is acceptable. But you, and they, don't get to make that demand of me, my daughter, my nieces, my friends or any other fucking woman who finds it abhorrent.
EmbarrassingAdmissions · 25/09/2021 14:07

@Ereshkigalangcleg

And will men henceforth be know as bodies with penises?

Men and most MTF trans people. It's the inclusive way.

I don't know how any of this can not end up with a struggle for primacy between the younger enbys and the older generation who rely upon sexes from which they transition (for whatever reason).

tbh, I only know of 2 families with an NB child of AMAB origin, the overwhelming majority are AFAB children who have gone on to be recognised with autism (for those who've had an assessment, others are on a waiting list).

But how does this language include people who reject binaries (whichever version) and may or may not have had interventions that remove both obvious primary and secondary sex characteristics?

“Transwomen are women” but women are “bodies with vaginas”? (Stolen from Twitter - couldn’t phrase it better myself!)

@Babdoc

So why don’t toilet doors also say “Bodies with vaginas” instead of “Women”? Oh yeah - that would specifically exclude transwomen. So it’s heads they win, tails we lose. Dehumanising, demeaning language for us, inclusive language for them.
Good point. There's no win for women in this assault on language.
Carveitup · 25/09/2021 13:36

Reduce us all to one specific body part that we either have or don't. Great idea!

I'm quite happy to be called a twat or a cunt if we can call all men knobs, dicks or cocks. I think it's very clear which sex everyone is then.

Irishmom7 · 25/09/2021 13:30

Really disappointed that no one has ever referred to bodies with lancets. Considering how many little pricks feel free to give women such demeaning names. Oh well.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 25/09/2021 13:29

@zafferana

In that case, will TWAW be replaced with TWAren't bodies with vaginas?

And will men henceforth be know as bodies with penises?

I saw a clinician on one thread criticising this but defending the notion that there are women with penises and men with vaginas. I'd have thought he'd be delighted at such reductionism to a body part but, no, it's not sufficiently inclusive.

I'm past caring what he considers the appropriate phrasing to be.

[quote nauticant]We don’t refer to living people as bodies

It depends if you're sensible or have lost your senses:

There's almost no point in trying to explain what is wrong with "black birthing bodies" (although thanks to those who did) as anyone who thought it was ok to use it in the first place is obviously far too stupid or arrogant to understand the explanation.

Artichokeleaves · 25/09/2021 13:23

We seem to be down to men, boys and Voldemorts. The unspeakables, the ones that others fear to name. I am not participating in a society busy teaching girls that theirs words are shameful and must not be spoken for fear of them distressing..... non voldemorts.... with the fact of their existence.

All I can see at the moment in relation to this issue is Evelyn Judson in her role as Glinda in the Wizard of Oz, brightly inquiring "Are you a good c*t body with a vagina or a bad c*t body with a vagina?"

Bodies with vaginas should be much more concerned about all these bad things happening, which seem to be as a result of the objectification of the biological female body.

Are bodies with vaginas in the scope of those covered by human rights?

Why was I deleted for saying rapists and male paedophiles are respected enough to be called women but we're not?

It's the truth, there's a thread full of proof on this very board Confused

backinthebox · 25/09/2021 13:06

@purplejungle you are so right. I'm much more worried about bodies with vaginas being denied an education or the right to work in Afghanistan, and young bodies with vaginas being kidnapped, raped and genitally mutilated in West Africa, and bodies with vaginas being murdered along with their children in the UK, and all the other terrible things that happen to bodies with vaginas around the world. Bodies with vaginas should be much more concerned about all these bad things happening, which seem to be as a result of the objectification of the biological female body.
