@WeeBisom

This is the “all lives matter” style of feminism I see.
Brilliant! Grin
futureghost · 23/09/2021 10:07

In a way its good. It so clearly shows that if you can't talk about women, we stop existing as a social group in political life.

I'm cutting and pasting this and using it as an example of the pernicious misogyny and real world impacts of this movement.

TheMarzipanDildo · 23/09/2021 10:06

Fucking nuts

WeeBisom · 23/09/2021 09:54

“A vindication of the rights of people”.

42SrauvP · 23/09/2021 09:51

The replies to the tweet are gold.

UsedUpUsername · 23/09/2021 09:44

@XiXimXerJingping

The ACLU are so far removed from their original purpose it beggars belief. Reminds me of Amnesty and Stonewall.
Not my observation, but it happens when activists take over a reputable organisation and ‘wear it like a skin suit, demanding respect.’

Wish I could remember who said it. Very apt here

BraveBananaBadge · 23/09/2021 09:42

Literally erasing women.

TheElementsSong · 23/09/2021 08:56

That is just WOW.

334bu · 23/09/2021 08:56

The emphasis on trans rights is quite remarkable. Of the 22 tweets posted by the ACLU on 21st September, 5 were about transgender issues.

Fariha31 · 23/09/2021 08:53

@MarshmallowSwede You are indeed late to the party. Your would be amazed how many men people would scream and shout argue that men do indeed get pregnant and have abortions.

MarshmallowSwede · 23/09/2021 08:46

Are men having abortions now? Last time I checked only women got pregnant, and only women had abortions.

Are we so woke and inclusive that men have been getting abortions lately? Wow.. I’m late to the party.

Fariha31 · 23/09/2021 08:28

How the mighty have falllen. Once the ACLU stood up for civil rights, now its just a trolling account on twitter.
Pathetic.

MoltenLasagne · 23/09/2021 08:26

Wow [people's] rights are human rights.

EdgeOfACoin · 23/09/2021 08:22

This may be a folorn hope, but so many young progressive Democrats absolutely revere RBG and hate the Texas law. Maybe, just maybe, they will see where this censorship of language will lead? And start to realise that there needs to be a word for the class of people who have bodies which potentially have or had the capacity to gestate young?

Is it possible this will shake their complacency even a little bit?

Perhaps I am being naïvely optimistic.

beastlyslumber · 23/09/2021 08:21

This might be the worst thing I've ever seen.

ErrolTheDragon · 23/09/2021 08:18

Awful. Instead of concentrating on what they need to do - challenge the severe erosion of women's rights in Texas and other states, they're discrediting themselves with this sort of idiocy.

Wtf couldn't they have just quoted her accurately, and then if they needed to used one of the so-called 'inclusive' forms of words in their following texts. (In the context of abortion rights, 'woman' surely is fully inclusive and comprehensible, and 'female' most certainly is).

NoSquirrels · 23/09/2021 08:03

Bloody hell that’s bad.

Have their brains fallen out?

SickAndTiredAgain · 23/09/2021 08:02

Holding her up as a champion of an issue but also thinking that her words on that issue need re-writing is bizarre.

Passmeamenuatthetottenham · 23/09/2021 08:02

Oh my fucking god! Shock

Clymene · 23/09/2021 08:00

I hope RGB haunts Strangio

Sophoclesthefox · 23/09/2021 07:51

Bracketed out of existence. ACLU seems to be auditioning for a role as Ministry of Truth these days. Witless nonsense.

Nuffaluff · 23/09/2021 07:31

The way they have reworded it makes it sound like men should have an equal say over whether a woman should have an abortion or not.
It’s rendered the quote utterly meaningless.

merrymouse · 23/09/2021 07:28

My favourite reply is

“And let's not forget the immortal words of Emmeline Pankhurst: "Votes for [people]!”

merrymouse · 23/09/2021 07:19

At least we know where they stand. It is heretical to refer to the civil liberties of the group previously known as women.

EdgeOfACoin · 23/09/2021 05:34

In my view, if you're willing to accede to the demand to use "women and", you agree, however tacitly, that women are an identity category and not the female sex class, and you are willingly taking a step on the path towards female erasure.
