I haven’t seen another thread on this today and I know she must be on here - thank you Rosie!

Hope that’s a clicky link.

Despite the hate you may be getting Rosie, there is a legion behind you!

@EmbarrassingAdmissions

Can anyone see comments on that article? I've updated it several times and every time I see [X] people typing but I've yet to see a single comment actually published.
There are certain articles which The Times moderate heavily.

I , along with a couple of other people, commented that at the end of this article we were none the wiser what it was about. All deleted.

I can only see one comment which appears to say 'surreal' but is covered by a box which says '3 people typing...'

Blimy that is horrific reading

I will be writing to my Labour MP and to Rosie Duffield (again) in support.

RedDogsBeg · 18/09/2021 18:24

About time somebody stepped up and spoke out about this, how embarrassing and spineless that the Leader of her Party is too cowardly to do so.

This was horribly on-point:

mostly it is men and the same men that have trolled me ever since I got elected,” she said.

“So it looks like, feels like and smells like misogyny and this is just the latest cause they have latched on to…*

It's any cause to berate or threaten a woman that is sufficient exculpation, the material reality of the cause is immaterial because it just has to provide adequate political cover.

The speaker of the House has spoken in support of Rosie Duffield. There’s a new article in the Times posted at 6pm. Anyone have a link?

BettyFilous · 17/09/2021 18:24

There are some utter numpties in the replies, mind.

What a prat - mind you, as he's already wielded a baseball bat on a defenceless creature, it's probably worth women giving him a wide berth Just in case he decides to repeat the exercise - imagine watching him taking his ire out on another fox.

@Andante57

I am appalled that Rosie Duffield cannot attend the Labour Party Conference because of security concerns Why isn’t Keir Starmer and other Labour Party bigwigs making a fuss about this?
You'd think that would be something that might concern a political party, no?

Interesting that Roz Kaveney is considering leaving the Labour Party.

Will RK be headhunted to join Greens or LibDems?

catzwhiskas · 12/09/2021 11:44

Interesting that Roz Kaveney is considering leaving the Labour Party. Will that be seen as a loss or a gain I wonder? There is nothing that Rosie Duffield has said that I or thousands of us would not agree with . I am horrified that she would not be safe at the conference and that this seems to be accepted collateral damage. Thank you Rosie for speaking out for us.

@Ereshkigalangcleg

As for policing who uses them, I expect that most people will be law abiding, are you saying some people will deliberately use the wrong toilets? For what purpose?

It's good to have it made crystal clear that some males do not respect women or our need for privacy and dignity.

Exactly. If it was clear that segregation was on the basis of sex (which can't be changed), then male people, however they identify, would use the male facilities. The only people who wouldn't do this voluntarily would be males with bad intentions. Genuine 'transwomen' would use the male spaces, because we are continually told that they are not criminals or sexual predators.

So it will be easy to spot the sexual predators and other male criminals, because they will be the ones trying to gain access to women's toilets.

(We seem to have been derailed into toilets again)

@334bu

Appalling that Rosie can't be safe at her own party's conference.
This is outrageous.

do the rest of the party genuinely think this is okay?

The Labour party of all parties should understand exactly the implications for a woman MP being intimidated and threatened to the extent she is excluded from public life.

Shame on the LP for not standing strong and firm behind Rosie Duffield. The very, very least Starmer could do is say that attacks on MPs are unacceptable. Not even that, though, eh? Not even that. He's as bad as Sturgeon.

Congressdingo · 12/09/2021 10:07

@CatherinaJTV

sorry for the post and run - I was pretty tied up at work.

to those who say they don't "self-ID", they are following their personal biology. Trans women would say the same thing. It is also not "a courtesy" that we "allow them" to use the women's. It's the law.

Why don't we go for "third spaces"? If we have the money for that, we can also create nice toilets with cubicles and privacy for all, or? Also: the idea that trans women should not use women's toilets (walking back the EA2010) would likely lead to more problems for women who don't clock as "female". And would we need a fourth space for trans men?
Has anyone answered my question how we would police trans people's use of toilets? Who would check and how?

As for "social contracts" - I have used the men's when the women's was oversubscribed Grin

Regarding prisons: I am always really disappointed when "safety in prisons" is reduced to "no trans women", rather than to go much further and demand prison reform and far reaching social reforms to ensure the population in prisons drops. I'd like to see safe prisons for all. Violent criminals, independently from sex or gender, should not get the chance to hurt other prisoners.

But to take it back to Duffield: as far as I can see, she is propagating the notion that self-ID would somehow make life more dangerous for women and that is just wrong. It would just make life a wee bit easier for trans folk.

It damn well is a courtesy. We have previously allowed men in, because we felt sorry for them. We no longer can do this for our safety, dignity and privacy reasons. Nowhere in the statutes does it say men can use womens toilets as they wish. I'm fine with third spaces, maybe just maybe this should have been the starting point and instead of mightily pissing off women en masse we would have campaigned for that too. As for policing who uses them, I expect that most people will be law abiding, are you saying some people will deliberately use the wrong toilets? For what purpose?

If you have used the mens when the womens was too busy (so have I) then surely that means more toilets are needed. Wether that's more womens or third space for all then that's fine with me. Get on and do it already.

As for prisons, then if you personally want reforms , carry on and campaign for that, if I have time between keeping things single sex and work and life, I might join you.

I think I accidentally derailed my own thread by quoting a tweet Rosie got in response. I think I was the first to mention toilets by quoting the tweet.
