I'll admit I didn't get to the end of it, but are there really people out there who assume people talk about them THIS MUCH in their absence, that we need such intricate, detailed rules about how we must refer to them when they can't hear it??

I'm pretty sure people stop even thinking about me once I've left their presence. I have never felt a need to say "and once I've left, please refer to me as 'she/her' when discussing how special I am".

What I can’t understand is why so many policymakers and politicians and schools etc can’t see this for what it is - navel-gazing meaningless tosh that really does not put someone into a special category that requires protection or respect. Sitting around thinking up what wanky titles you’re going to demand other people call you is not being transsexual. It’s a massive epidemic of self-importance and sel-appointed specialness that’s piggybacked off the original meaning of being trans - and even that involved a clash of rights and shouldn’t be prioritised above all else.

You should not need to be validated by others. Expecting anyone to affirm you shows you have self esteem issues and you need to look within yourself for validation.

I don’t understand why we all have to participate in this when they can easily just love themselves and leave us all out of this. If you truly love yourself then you don’t need anyone to “affirm” you. If you can’t validate and love yourself then don’t demand others to do this to make you feel better.

Wonder whether we could take the opportunity to rid the English language of all different pronouns and just have a single set of pronouns for everyone. Pronouns are crappy: they just emphasise difference and gender roles.

Might be tricky to decide which pronouns to adopt probably he/his/him, given that we all know that men are the default humans. I don't think I'd care which were chosen though.

Yes, the actual article is called "How To Affirm the People in Your Life Who Use Multiple Sets of Pronouns" and yet this makes it clear that they don't want to be affirmed, so much as for us to get it wrong and not really be sure what we're supposed to do, so that they can suffer the agonies of "not feeling safe" or being "misgendered" and then feel even more special and brave.
