EyesOpening, I had a first quick peek at TikTok early in the summer and had to lie down in a darkened room for the rest of the afternoon. I haven't been back.

EyesOpening · 07/09/2021 18:51

@NewlyGranny

I know realise that I have not been honouring my delicate intersections. Nor have I been recognising the multitudes within me (except perhaps when I was expecting the twins!).

Or could it just be, having pushed for people to respect their chosen pronouns and found that, by and large, people are happy to make the effort and lovingly comply, the challenge has to be made harder and harder until someone stumbles and victimhood can be claimed?

Perhaps one set of pronouns is too easy to learn and starts to become mundane, so having a range to choose from ensures the desired attention every day, as people are forced to check in with the pronouned one's menu?

Can you switch pronouns at lunchtime to catch people out? What happens if the person loses track of which set is current? How does any actual work get done if the whole workplace is playing pronoun tiptoe? What happens if a pronouned one gets another pronouned one's pronouns wrong? Do they play top victim trumps?

So much potential.

Have you not seen that pronoun bracelets video on TikTok? Madness! I do wonder how any work is going to get done though.

I saw this on Twitter : changed the order of my pronouns and it feels good!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 07/09/2021 18:24

I read that (Tweet) as pretty threatening in tone though, no?

Yes. I was being flippant because these people often resort to violent fantasy.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 07/09/2021 18:23

I think that's the best description of it I've ever heard, PermanentTemporary

PermanentTemporary · 07/09/2021 17:13

If my colleagues are into judo I'm not required to refer to them by their belt colour, and at least that only changes every few months.

Nobody can possibly expect this to be honoured. It's a fucking kids' game with a really nasty manipulative edge.

BraveBananaBadge · 07/09/2021 16:14

@Ereshkigalangcleg

Added a spot for pronouns to our consent forms at the shop and cis people keep ignoring it. About to make their pronouns was/were."

They are past tense forms of the verb "to be", not pronouns. Kids eh.

ClumpingBambooIsALie · 07/09/2021 15:40

Heavily tempted to notify the mental health services that in their correspondence about me, they should refer to me as she/they/xie in a strict but non-patterned 7:3:1 ratio, to respect, honour and validate my unique genderblend.

ClumpingBambooIsALie · 07/09/2021 15:17

It's got strong telling a 15yo you dig The Weeknd and asking them what's hip in the hit parade this week vibes.

ClumpingBambooIsALie · 07/09/2021 14:16

My psychiatrist has recently added he/him pronouns to his LinkedIn bio. How am I meant to take him seriously now 😆

BreatheAndFocus · 07/09/2021 14:09

@Ereshkigalangcleg

did anyone see the male person with the They/Them earrings video?)

That was hilarious Grin

It was indeed 😂 Their expression of disbelief that people still wouldn’t comply, coupled with the manic gurning and earring rattling 🤣

I wish the scientists would come up with a vaccine for narcissism.

GreyCarpet · 07/09/2021 13:40

I had the pleasure of sharing a train carriage with two enbies this morning. I know they were enbies on account that they were clearly female teenagers with blue short back and sides and wearing stereotypically boys' clothes.

Oh and the fact they talked about nothing but being enby and their pronouns for the whole journey loudly enough for everyone else to hear.

I really don't think they realise that no one else gives a shit

Phobiaphobic · 07/09/2021 13:22

Can't read it cos my head is chanting 'Oh, just fuck off!'

BreatheAndFocus · 07/09/2021 13:06

Sadly not parody, Francesca. I checked that account that was replying and it’s full of the most outrageous narcissism and comments about Cis People and Straight People (even though there’s a high probability the person is technically straight themselves 🙄 ). Some of these people are so over the top it’s unbelievable (did anyone see the male person with the They/Them earrings video?)

It’s exactly that newlygranny They sit around in permanent victim mode, looking to be offended and rushing in to shout But what about ME? ME ME ME at every possible occasion. No-one has it harder than them 🙄

Bloody hell! Look - even if you try really hard to learn the pronouns, you’re still literally killing people and should go away and keep your dreadful failings private so they don’t upset these petty little dictators.

I swear I’ve never seen such utter arrogance. It’s getting worse and worse.

It's amazing, isn't it?

"I'm non-binary and I use she/her pronouns AND they/them pronouns so please use both and not just she/her
thanks"

"Friendly reminder that if someone uses multiple pronoun sets, pls use all their pronouns unless they have specifically stated a preference among those pronoun sets or told u how and when to use specific pronouns for them."

Wowzers.

I find it quite offensive actually, the way that these people are so desperate to be oppressed. If the only way in which you are oppressed is that people don't always refer to you in the exact way that you would like when not talking directly to you, then you are not oppressed. The kind of language used in those tweets totally trivialises true oppression.

What's the expression again? Check your privilege....?

youkiddingme · 06/09/2021 22:22

Yawn. Can we just substitute self-centred bore and have done.

These Twitter comments - surely they’re parody?? I certainly hope so because I just can’t believe that anyone could be so abhorrently precious about themselves.

I resist linguistic structures that prioritize classification and stability over expression and fluidity.

I resist words that prioritise mutual understanding (aka communication) over vain incoherence.

Can't help but wonder how stumped these writers would be with that third of the world's population who have no pronouns? How can the pronoun brigade be special then?

VulvaTeeth · 06/09/2021 20:10

They just want/ need a sandwich

Quite a good idea for an advert, isn't it?

You have a blue haired, young (but not young enough for it to be in any way excusable) person with the dry eyed, wired look of someone who spends 20 hours a day online, ranting to long suffering family members about what they're required to call him/her/they/ze/shithead and what they, as allies, owe them and how they're LITERALLY KILLING trans people by not obliging
And then a voiceover goes, "You're not you when you're hungry. Eat a Snickers! (And get your head out your arse!).
Person eats Snickers, apologises to their family. Then walks off to go for a walk, or read a book, or get a fucking job...
