It's in The Times. With this and Wi Spa I feel like the house of cards is falling...

Brilliant news. I agree with the previous poster that it was difficult to follow the proceedings themselves.

I wonder if the trust will appeal.

Leafstamp · 04/09/2021 19:10

This is good news but agree £20k doesn’t seem a lot. Although hopefully Sonia will be able to secure new roles.

PrawnofthePatriarchy · 04/09/2021 19:09

Great news but £20,000 doesn't seem nearly enough. She's endured so much.

OvaHere · 04/09/2021 18:53

Fantastic news. Very pleased for Sonia. It was a difficult tribunal to follow as a non legal person so I really didn't know what to expect as an outcome.

Dreamprincess · 04/09/2021 18:46

Thank you Sonia. I have young grandchildren and your courage and fortitude hopefully mean they will grow up in a world where the falsehood that one can "change sex" is debunked,

FightingtheFoo · 04/09/2021 18:44

Brilliant news. Can't believe how many of these cases are going 5rough the courts. I have so much respect for all the women (and Harry the Owl) that have not taken this crap lying down and out themselves through the stress and financial burden of pursuing these cases for the benefit of us all.

@Igmum

Great news. I hope this leads to substantial changes in GIDS. Well done Sonia
To be scrupulously nuanced:

Appleby’s employment tribunal did not make findings on the rights and wrongs of the treatment, but looked at how others behaved towards her after she blew the whistle about issues of concern.

There is a strong signal that GIDS would be wise to reflect upon its practices but there is no finding about the grounds for the treatment.

BitterAndOnlySlightlyTwisted · 04/09/2021 18:42

This judgement has made me so happy. Vindicated at last. I hope this opens the door to much more scrutiny

WhoNeedsaManOfTheWorld · 04/09/2021 18:41

Well deserved

DancesWithTortoises · 04/09/2021 18:40

Hurrah!

ArabellaScott · 04/09/2021 18:39

Bloody brilliant.

Well done, Sonia. Flowers

Whatwouldscullydo · 04/09/2021 18:38

Great news. We'll done to Sonia for seeing this through. It cannot have been easy.

MaudTheInvincible · 04/09/2021 18:35

No, it's not Blush. Don't think it's up yet.

1Endeavour2 · 04/09/2021 18:35

Wonderful news

Igmum · 04/09/2021 18:35

Great news. I hope this leads to substantial changes in GIDS. Well done Sonia

WhereAreWeNow · 04/09/2021 18:35

Great news. Well done to Sonia. Whistle blowing is very brave.

Timefortea4 · 04/09/2021 18:33

Great news but the damages seem very low considering what Sonia has been through.

Clymene · 04/09/2021 18:33

Well done Sonia although what an awful and stressful time she has had.

How any parents can send their children to the Tavistock now I don't know. Any organisation that works with children should prioritise safeguarding. If it doesn't, quite simply, it can't keep children safe.

LizzieSiddal · 04/09/2021 18:31

Such fantastic news!

I’m disappointed that in The Times article, Polly Carmichael is not mentioned, I wonder if she is in the ruling? Her evidence to the tribunal was quite bizarre.

MaudTheInvincible · 04/09/2021 18:30

Glad to read this. Well done Sonia Appleby!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 04/09/2021 18:30

Surely this is a bad look for the Tavistock, firstly that she had to whistleblow about safeguarding failures, and secondly that they tried to hide this by sidelining her...

GeorgiaMcGraw · 04/09/2021 18:29

Woo! Go Sonia, go!

yourhairiswinterfire · 04/09/2021 18:27

Excellent news, well done Sonia!

NonnyMouse1337 · 04/09/2021 18:26

So pleased to hear this! It must have been really difficult for her to be put in such a position. I hope this vindication will give her some small measure of comfort.
