Gay man 'bullied' off Manchester Pride for wearing LGB Alliance hat and t-shirt

LibDem activist delighted by this. Here are two of her tweets. The gay man who turned up in an LGB hat and t-shirt was allegedly advised by police to leave for his own safety and seems to have had the hat stolen.

Another young fool tweeted that 'bullying the guy in the LGB Alliance shirt who came to the protest march is my favourit part of Pride so far xx'. He has since deleted this (possibly because he is now sober and/or has seen how many people had reported this to his employers) and now claims he was just chanting 'Trans lives matter!'. 'Bullying' is an odd choice of words for this. How could anyone think admitting publicly to 'bullying' was a good look?

The LGB Alliance man has been advised that people shouting at him is actually assault if he wants to take it further. Doesn't sound like he does, though.

Unedifying, to say the least.

Nowhere have I said that, and don't think anyone else was either.

Do you think it was justified that this gay man was targeted and attacked for wearing clothing that supports LGB people?

OldCrone · 29/08/2021 15:44

@donquixotedelamancha

Is April straight?

According to the Lib Dem website, she's Trans-species:

April is a Dachshund and indie pop enthusiast

I thought you were making that up, but it's here.

The LGB Alliance was formed in opposition to trans issues being included in with gay issues wasn't it? It's unapologetically divisive in nature and the complete antithesis of what Pride is about - inclusivity. So I don't really get why this man thought it was the time and place to promote division and exclusion at an event that centres on inclusion.

What was the intent behind his t-shirt and hat? I can only think it was to say something along the lines of 'Trans people should not be welcomed at Pride events' . Yeah that's really not going to go down well with 99% of Pride attenders.

There's a weird logic from some in this thread that these circumstances were homophobic because he is gay. I imagine there were hundreds of gay men there, I wonder why they felt welcome and this man didn't?

One of the key messages of LGB Alliance is that people should have freedom of speech. Well, what do you think this crowd were doing - exactly that, exercising their right to free speech.

NoNotMeNoSiree · 29/08/2021 15:43

That bullying verbal abuse and theft was justified

Nowhere have I said that, and don't think anyone else was either.
If you read what you quoted again, you'll see it was in response to '' it's almost like the issue wasn't that he was gay'' bit.

Artichokeleaves · 29/08/2021 15:41

it's almost like the issue wasn't that he was gay, but that he turned up wearing apparel from a hate group

You mean a t shirt that implied he was homosexual, knew what sex was and claimed a right to be exclusively sexually attracted to biological men, with an additional political implication that as a homosexual he would not be willing to validate biologically female people's gender identity with his body.

Yes, it's exactly like the issue is that he was gay. And said so. And openly refused to conform to what more powerful people insist his homosexuality now must mean whether or not it fits his sexual orientation and feelings.

Incidentally which is more hateful..... a t shirt? Or threatening and bullying a gay person so much that they have to leave with a police escort?

RedDogsBeg · 29/08/2021 15:40

@BilindaB

''And yet there were hundreds of gay men there who weren't kicked out so it's almost like the issue wasn't that he was gay, but that he turned up wearing apparel from a hate group to an event supposed to celebrate the very people that hate group targets.''

Exactly.

Perhaps you will answer these questions BilindaB:

Who does LGBA target and how do they target them (and please provide evidence of this)?

Who does Pride celebrate?

How is a legally registered charity set up to advocate for the legal rights of same sex attracted people to be upheld a 'hate group' (again please provide evidence)?

Helleofabore · 29/08/2021 15:39

I, too, would like to see the evidence that LGB alliance is a ‘hate group’ from those stating that it is.

It does seem their ‘hate’ is in the framing of their objectives of defining homosexuality as same ‘sex’.

NoNotMeNoSiree · 29/08/2021 15:39

Also.. Where does it say she's straight queer like someone said on here (apologies if I've missed it)
Is it not possible she's bi?
Which if so is conveniently misunderstood by all those saying LGB rights!
It'd have just erased a bi identity, which they supposedly support Confused
Again happy to be corrected if she's not

Jorriss · 29/08/2021 15:38

All these people supporting homophobia. Directing hate at gay people who wear clothing to support LGB people.

We see you. Homophobes. We know exactly what you are.

Exactly what?

That bullying, verbal abuse and theft are justified?

Absolutely sickening, if this is what puts you on the 'right side of history' then I am bloody glad I'm on the wrong side.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 29/08/2021 15:37

@BigNothing

Saying "supporting same-sex attraction is hate" is homophobic. We all see it.
This!
Artichokeleaves · 29/08/2021 15:36

Those supporting excluding LGB people from Pride (and this appalling behaviour towards anyone at all) have still not yet explained how the LGBA is a 'hate group'.

And why despite repeated checking, the charity commission etc keeps coming back saying such claims are plain untruthful. And slurs.

Really what this boils down to is that it is no longer acceptable to be homosexual and say so because it implies that you do not share the belief that someone is the sex they choose regardless of their biology.

So this is absolute intolerance of other LGB beliefs and an attempt to force all LGB representation to be compliant with TQ politics. Which are actually homophobic.

I reckon before the end of the year, 'Quisling' Jones is going to be writing that The Taliban are perfectly justified in killing homosexuals, and that all non-compliant gay males in the UK should be attacked without hesitation. That's how far I reckon he's willing to go to help his homophobic pals.

I wouldn't though be able to determine whether he will use his Guardian column to promote his new self-appointed role as Enforcer-in-the-Compliance-of-Gay-Men's-Thoughts-and-Beliefs or if he'll just restrain himself to his Twitter feed.

His support for the attack on the gay man at Manchester Pride didn't quite garner the praise he perhaps thought he would get. There was one commentator repeatedly saying he was a gay male who would happily attack another gay man for having disagreeable thoughts, but otherwise there were numerous comments unfavourable to Quisling Jones.

He seems to have some deep-seated hatred of male homosexuals (despite being one himself) in addition to his well-documented hatred of women. The lack of support will likely enrage him more, and I suspect he will express that through encouragement of more homophobic attacks.

NoNotMeNoSiree · 29/08/2021 15:31

@Window1

I don't get it? Feeling confused by this thread. Anyone explain in plain English what has happened.
Someone wore an LGB Alliance hat at Pride. Pride celebrates LGBTQ+ Then wonders why people are Hmm at said hat being worn.

NonnyMouse1337 · 29/08/2021 15:28

The trouble is, as the LGBA demonstrates, to set up again, alone, is not tolerated. It's immediately called exclusionary, and 'hate'.

The homophobic zealots can squawk about 'hate' and being 'exclusionary' as much as they want. The vast majority of the population know that opposition to same-sex attraction is not a good look.

IvyTwines2 · 29/08/2021 15:28

The 'nonbinary demigirl flux' with the orange headdress who pursues the gay man literally has a skull and crossbones on 'their' studded black leather face mask. "Hans, are we the baddies?"

BigNothing · 29/08/2021 15:27

In case it's not clear, it's April Preston in the video taking part in the shouting.
She's always been vocal about trans rights but to bully someone for their sexuality is indefensible.

I've only seen the video circulated on Twitter so no idea if the bloke did anything to prompt this.

Jorriss · 29/08/2021 15:25

More people need to stand up and say no to this stinking homophobia. We cannot let this hateful rhetoric win.

Artichokeleaves · 29/08/2021 15:20

@Jorriss

Better for lesbians, gay men and bisexual people to have our own marches and events

Yes. I agree. Pride seems to be pretty tainted now. Need something new that is not homophobic and actually supports the LGB.

@JustGotHere

As an American I am apalled at how brazenly they appropriated BLM and that just hearing that chant, in that accent.. Jesus. Aint nobody busting in their doors in the middle of the night on a no-knock warrant and massacring them in their beds. How dare they steal that cry of pain in service of their fancy British problems.
I hear you. It's appallingly offensive.
