Gay man 'bullied' off Manchester Pride for wearing LGB Alliance hat and t-shirt

LibDem activist delighted by this. Here are two of her tweets. The gay man who turned up in an LGB hat and t-shirt was allegedly advised by police to leave for his own safety and seems to have had the hat stolen.

Another young fool tweeted that 'bullying the guy in the LGB Alliance shirt who came to the protest march is my favourit part of Pride so far xx'. He has since deleted this (possibly because he is now sober and/or has seen how many people had reported this to his employers) and now claims he was just chanting 'Trans lives matter!'. 'Bullying' is an odd choice of words for this. How could anyone think admitting publicly to 'bullying' was a good look?

The LGB Alliance man has been advised that people shouting at him is actually assault if he wants to take it further. Doesn't sound like he does, though.

Unedifying, to say the least.

I have been married twice to women and am very attracted to them, but now in my 50s finally I have decided freedom is attainable. I have now bought a short skirt and shaved my body. Though not doing makeup.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 29/08/2021 17:06

@NoNotMeNoSiree

Because I tell you this I wouldn't.

Neither would I.

'' Wearing clothes that stand out''
It's Pride for LGBT +.
It's hardly' 'just wearing clothes that stand out' ' is it?
It's actively turning up at Pride in a trans exclusive tshirt.
Is it surprising that a crowd of people chant' 'Trans Lives Matter?' ' at them? and police move them on?

As you have demonstrated today, that'll be because it's not fashionable to bully visibly trans people for what they're wearing in public, rather than because of any overarching moral principle.

Apropos of nothing in particular, do you know what I have found numerous times on twitter? The gentleman or lady who lambasts gay men and lesbians for being "trans exclusive" often has a history of using extremely unpleasant language about transsexuals, back when that was fashionable. The kind of language I myself have never used. Damien Barr is one example.

You're also revising history. He had his hat stolen (robbery), was verbally abused, had things thrown at him. He wasn't moved on, he approached police officers for protection and they escorted him away for his safety.

Because he wore a t-shirt saying LGB Alliance. Which stands for Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Alliance, which is exactly what Stonewall UK used to be prior to 2015.

RedDogsBeg · 29/08/2021 17:04

@MistandMud

It’s not bloody ‘trans exclusive’ to be lesbian or gay!
Nor to advertise the fact by wearing a t-shirt, nor to wear a t-shirt that shows your support for an organisation that stands for your legal right to be same sex attracted.

The pretzel like twisting going on condemning this man and justifying his treatment at the hands of that mob is very illuminating.

So much acceptance, tolerance and kindness on display - sarcasm.

Helleofabore · 29/08/2021 17:04

It's actively turning up at Pride in a trans exclusive tshirt.

Stop with the misinformation.

LGB Alliance has trans supporters I believe. It represents any trans person who wishes advocacy for being same sex oriented not the recent pivot made by Stonewall to represent same gender oriented people.

You obviously have your own agenda at play here.

alkanet · 29/08/2021 17:03

This is nuts! If I wear a t shirt with I love roses on it, I wouldn't expect to be chased down the road by people screaming " daffodils are valid! "

Quaggersx · 29/08/2021 16:59

I really recommend the comedy series Jerk. It’s on iplayer. In one episode a character introduces herself as ‘pan-sexual, but I don’t fancy women

Grin I'll take a look.

Artichokeleaves · 29/08/2021 16:58

So it's not acceptable for someone to be homosexual. There we have it.

@Jorriss

It means she really wants to be interesting but doesn’t actually want to have a relationship with a woman.

Yes that's how I'd interpret it. Alongside being a special label to excuse their active homophobia.

BlueberryCheezecake posted that excuse of crowd violence and aggression against an attendee for what he was wearing.

NoNotMeNoSiree and BilindaB both thought it was a wonderful post.

I want to hear what you have to say for yourselves now I've pointed out the very obvious parallels.

Anything else you'd like to get off your chest about women in short skirts? Would you claim a transgender person was asking for violence if he/she/they were wearing clothes that made them stand out?

Because I tell you this, I wouldn't. It doesn't matter what someone is wearing, or how much I disagree with them, you can not use other people's clothes to justify crimes against them.

Clearly you're not of the same view. Buy a new moral compass, because the one you have is broken.

EastWestWhosBest · 29/08/2021 16:36

@TheWeeDonkey

I used to work with a lad who would complain "Why are there no parades for straight people?😢" He'd be so happy to see this.

Pride is now not just for straight people but for homophobic straight people too! 🌈

I see some people on Twitter are calling it Spicy Straight Pride.
RedDogsBeg · 29/08/2021 16:34

Yes, amazing what horrors can be hidden behind a special label isn't it.

@PurgatoryOfPotholes

And yet there were hundreds of gay men there who weren't kicked out so it's almost like the issue wasn't that he was gay, but that he turned up wearing apparel from a hate group to an event supposed to celebrate the very people that hate group targets

This reminds me of the classic misogynistic line that "she was asking for it, going out dressed like that".

You may not realise this, but this is a feminism forum. We don't stand for people claiming that they can't help themselves when they see other people's clothing.

Take responsibility for your violence and aggression and stop putting the blame for your actions on other people's wardrobes.

100%

Almost as if these excuses and justifications were written and being voiced by MRAs deeply embedded in the patriarchy.

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g

So are all the single issue trans orgs divisive too because they don't include the LGB?

This is the question that's never answered.

Trans must be included in everything, must be placed front and centre.

Everyone who isn't trans must be excluded from everything.

Do keep up your rancid bullying and sooner or later it will blow up in your faces. It'll be an absolute joy to see one of you made an example of.

Hell yes. 💥

It can't come soon enough.

The TRA and supporters chants about tolerance, inclusivity, being free to be what you are - except if you are an exclusively same sex attracted gay man who supports an organisation that supports him.

Simon Callow was right the actions shown in those videos are tyranny worthy of an authoritarian, totalitarian state.

All this acceptance that the TRAs and their supporters blather on about is an absolute lie. There is nothing progressive or tolerant about this ideology it is damned with their own words and actions every time.

Jorriss · 29/08/2021 16:09

Although, as this is the LibDems website, I'm willing to be corrected

Woof. 🐕🐩🐶🐾

yourhairiswinterfire · 29/08/2021 16:08

The homophobic bullies seem to be forgetting that same-sex attraction is a protected characteristic. GC beliefs are protected. LGB Alliance are a legal registered charity. Therefore, a gender critical same-sex attracted man supporting a charity that advocates for him at an event that is supposed to be inclusive of gay men in not a crime.

The homophobes mistakenly believe that they're on the 'right side of history'. But make no mistake here-you're on the wrong side of the law. Do keep up your rancid bullying and sooner or later it will blow up in your faces. It'll be an absolute joy to see one of you made an example of.
