Gay man 'bullied' off Manchester Pride for wearing LGB Alliance hat and t-shirt

LibDem activist delighted by this. Here are two of her tweets. The gay man who turned up in an LGB hat and t-shirt was allegedly advised by police to leave for his own safety and seems to have had the hat stolen.

Another young fool tweeted that 'bullying the guy in the LGB Alliance shirt who came to the protest march is my favourit part of Pride so far xx'. He has since deleted this (possibly because he is now sober and/or has seen how many people had reported this to his employers) and now claims he was just chanting 'Trans lives matter!'. 'Bullying' is an odd choice of words for this. How could anyone think admitting publicly to 'bullying' was a good look?

The LGB Alliance man has been advised that people shouting at him is actually assault if he wants to take it further. Doesn't sound like he does, though.

Unedifying, to say the least.

@NoNotMeNoSiree

So anything that doesn't have a T on it is anti T is it?

Oh, come on.
Really?!
Of course it isn't.
Of course someone who is a lesbian can wear a tshirt celebrating being a lesbian.
Of course someone who is gay can wear a tshirt celebrating being gay.
You seriously can't see the difference between your examples and wearing an LGB tshirt which is trans exclusionary at an L G B T event?
(Highlighted T just because people keep conviently pretending it's not there.)
You really can't?
OK then.

What is the difference? Honestly, please explain, because you know there are trans activists who would be livid about lesbians wearing a 'I'm attracted to females' t-shirt, right? It's wrong think isn't it?

What is it with people nowadays not being able to understand or recognise when they're being the aggressors? You do not need or have to 'bully' a gay man away from a Pride event because he's wearing a t-shirt you don't like (nb one that expresses solidarity with same sex attracted people).

The 'most oppressed' are very good at bullying and intimidation, tolerance, acceptance and kindness don't seem to feature despite being spouted at every available opportunity.

Straight 'queer' people driving away homosexual men from public events, and calling in police to assist, are no different from predecessors who were happy to see gay men criminalised for being same sex attracted.

It's nasty homophobia, same as it ever was. Such progress.

yourhairiswinterfire · 29/08/2021 17:32

At an event to celebrate L, G, B and T you mean.

So at future Pride events, should those who have just the trans colours painted on their faces, those who hold 'trans rights now' banners, or those that wave only the trans flag be bullied by a mob, have their flags and banners stolen and be harassed out of Pride?

For excluding the rest of the rainbow and centring only one letter of the alphabet?

Marguerite2000 · 29/08/2021 17:31

So anything that doesn't have a T on is anti-T, is it?
That does seem to be the gist of that poster's reasoning. It's as if they're the kid at school who thinks they have to be invited to every party, and anyone who doesn't invite them is a 'hater'.

RedDogsBeg · 29/08/2021 17:30

So were people who were wearing tshirts supporting trans-only groups (which are not for LGB people) similarly harassed by LGB people?

What about those carrying Trans signs and slogans? They were only supporting and centring Trans but of course that's all fine and dandy, Trans are allowed to be exclusive but demand inclusion from everyone and everything else.

HeddaAga · 29/08/2021 17:29

*This reminds me of the classic misogynistic line that "she was asking for it, going out dressed like that".

You may not realise this, but this is a feminism forum. We don't stand for people claiming that they can't help themselves when they see other people's clothing.*

What exactly will these gay men wake up to? Being more feminine?

The sustained attack on their safety and their protected characteristic. What on earth has being more feminine got to do with it?

Wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 29/08/2021 17:25

Pride was set up by lesbian and gay people. The B and later T were bolted on later.

He had absolutely every right to wear that t shirt and not be hassled.

AustralianDad7 · 29/08/2021 17:24

@Imnobody4

Maybe it will make more gay men wake up and take a stand. Pride is now just another trans celebration.
What exactly will these gay men wake up to? Being more feminine? PRIDE is a marketing tool. Anyone labeling themselves with it becomes objectified. This goes with all riots and protests, they are campaigns to recruit focused people and brainwash them. Think about that...

A lesbian with a t-shirt celebrating being lesbian would be hateful, also?
A gay man with a t-shirt celebrating being gay would be hateful, also?
A bisexual of either sex with a t-shirt celebrating being bisexual would be hateful, also?

To quote an old campaign from Stonewall UK,

Some People Are Gay, Get Over It

Someone will definitely get hurt Floral and I fear it will happen sooner rather than later and then there will be a whole raft of hand wringing, excuses and distancing, however, the receipts are there in plain sight for ever.

Quaggersx · 29/08/2021 17:21

I agree Floral. It's incredible how homophobia has reared its ugly head again. But even worse this time. This time encouraged from within. Horrible.

OldCrone · 29/08/2021 17:20

No, didn't say that, did I?
I said Pride celebrated LGBT.
Which is where the LGB tshirt was worn.

So he was wearing an LGB T shirt, at an event for LGBT people.

What exactly is the problem with this again?

FloralBunting · 29/08/2021 17:18

I mean honestly, RedDogsBeg, I give no shits about these open homophobes who have taken to rocking up and displaying their nasty attitudes of 'Gay and lesbian is only ok as long as you comply or shut up', and I don't really seek to persuade them, because I'm not even sure what could.

They do most of the legwork for me by repeating the open bigotry anyway. It's pretty bloody grim having to read it - there was a rash of 't*rfs get the wall' posts under LOJ's celebration of this authoritarian homophobic mob rule, and you have to wonder what all this is going to lead to in terms of someone getting hurt - but there is enough sunlight to expose it, at least.

Quaggersx · 29/08/2021 17:18

@NoNotMeNoSiree

At an event to celebrate L, G, B and T you mean.
People go and celebrate who they are. This man is celebrating same sex attraction. There's not a requirement to celebrate everything under the umbrella. Such as adult human babies or rubber dogs for example. Anyone who thinks a gay man should be chased out for celebrating same sex attraction publicly is a homophobe. Pretty simple really. And repulsive.
RedDogsBeg · 29/08/2021 17:15

@NoNotMeNoSiree

At an event to celebrate L, G, B and T you mean.
So you cannot celebrate the fact you are L, G or B solely?

That is homophobia pure and simple.

RedDogsBeg · 29/08/2021 17:12

@FloralBunting

"Have you actively worn clothing that identifies you as a homosexual, and understand that sex is relevant to your rights and protections and those of other L, G and B people?

Then you must understand that it is only to be expected that you will be shouted at and intimidated during a march which only exists because of lesbian and gay people, because you are not complying with the directive to shut up about that stuff because it upsets the TQs.

This is not homophobia, because there are a lot of lesbians, gay men and bisexual who have complied, and we don't punish them, do we?"

It's chilling Floral, tactics straight out of a certain playbook.

At an event to celebrate homosexuality and bisexuality which is what the letter L, G, & B stand for.

@Artichokeleaves

It's actively turning up at Pride in a trans exclusive tshirt.

So it's not acceptable for someone to be homosexual. There we have it.

Indeed we do.

Gay Pride is not about homosexuals at last an admission.

Quaggersx · 29/08/2021 17:07

It's actively turning up at Pride in a trans exclusive tshirt.

No it's turning up in an inclusive t-shirt for LGB people.

Is it surprising that a crowd of people chant' 'Trans Lives Matter?' ' at them? and police move them on?

Clearly not surprising to people who are intolerant aggressive homophobic bullies. To the rest of the world, yes it is surprising that a gay man would be threatened at pride for being same sex attracted and displaying his support for LGB people on his t shirt.
