Gay man 'bullied' off Manchester Pride for wearing LGB Alliance hat and t-shirt

LibDem activist delighted by this. Here are two of her tweets. The gay man who turned up in an LGB hat and t-shirt was allegedly advised by police to leave for his own safety and seems to have had the hat stolen.

Another young fool tweeted that 'bullying the guy in the LGB Alliance shirt who came to the protest march is my favourit part of Pride so far xx'. He has since deleted this (possibly because he is now sober and/or has seen how many people had reported this to his employers) and now claims he was just chanting 'Trans lives matter!'. 'Bullying' is an odd choice of words for this. How could anyone think admitting publicly to 'bullying' was a good look?

The LGB Alliance man has been advised that people shouting at him is actually assault if he wants to take it further. Doesn't sound like he does, though.

Unedifying, to say the least.

Also, whatever Marsha PJohnson did or didn’t do in the US, the country has been comparatively slow to create federal laws to protect gay rights, so it’s not clear why gay people in the U.K. should be grateful to whoever threw a brick on a different continent.

merrymouse · 30/08/2021 11:01

They were beaten and kicked and attacked, arrested, spat on, ostracised etc.

Where are you getting this from? Until recently In the U.K., the only well known trans person was Jan Morris.

This might be because trans people have felt forced into reclusiveness, but don’t you think there would be be a more prominent trans campaigner from the 80s - an Ian McKellan or a Peter Tatchell, if trans people had really been heavily involved in campaigning for gay rights?

cariadlet · 30/08/2021 11:00

@Anotheruser02

The black LGBA hat is now sold out, I wonder if they all went today.

The hats were pretty heavily promoted on Twitter. I bought one and then decided to go back and get a t-shirt as well.
I was prompted to visit their store because of this debacle but really wish I'd got round to doing it earlier. I'd have loved to have had the t-shirt arrive in time to wear it for INSET day next week.

This is about a large group of adults, shouting love and inclusion, absolutely unable to tolerate one person stating boundaries around their homosexuality.

Indeed. And by extension heterosexuality.

This is a sexual rights movement that demands any person, male or female, must never exclude any other person, male or female from their sexual orientation.

It's disgusting entitlement to a breathtaking degree.

And the absolute OPPOSITE of gay pride.

Still, at least people can now see it for what it is.

@Yourstupidityexhaustsme

I see this from both sides.

He's more than entitled to his own opinion but you can't just drop a letter because you don't agree with it.

Lots of people don't believe in bisexuality. It's offensive to turn up in an LGT t-shirt. He went looking for a reaction, he got one.

Of course you can drop a letter. It's perfectly permissable, and not offensive at all, to have subgroups within a larger community. Just as an example, you can be proud to be British and wear an England/Scotland/Wales/NI shirt at the same time. If I support England that doesn't mean I'm anti the other 3 home countries. (yes, some people probably do think that way, but then they're the ignorant ones.)
Artichokeleaves · 30/08/2021 10:57

I'll tell you as a lesbian, anyone trying to enforce who I must provide my body to on demand is going to be told to get to fuck. L. Adult female homosexual. You believe whatever you want, you have sex with whoever you want, don't inflict and enforce your personal beliefs on others.

The man excluded and harassed was stating his own boundaries and sexuality. He was not enforcing it on anyone else. Other people have felt absolutely entitled to enforce their boundaries and sexuality upon him. Ffs, this is commanding how someone must provide their body for sex! Is there really no glimmer yet of how utterly fucked up this is?

Artichokeleaves · 30/08/2021 10:54

He went looking for a reaction, he got one.

He stated his sexuality and pride in it: that he is homosexual and is exclusively attracted to other biologically male people. It's gay pride ffs.

This is unacceptable to those who insist that gender must trump the reality of sex, and that it's provoking a reaction to be openly homosexual? It's excluding and rejecting - who? Those he will not make his body even theoretically available to?

This is insanity.

This is about a large group of adults, shouting love and inclusion, absolutely unable to tolerate one person stating boundaries around their homosexuality. Absolutely unable to tolerate it. And seeing it as a justified reason to behave like a bunch of thugs and bullies, on the grounds that those boundaries provoked them. The childishness is ridiculous.

Datun · 30/08/2021 10:53

He's more than entitled to his own opinion but you can't just drop a letter because you don't agree with it.

Drop a letter? He's not allowed to disagree? Of course he bloody well is. And does. As do very many homosexual people.

The T directly undermines LG and B.

Homosexual people were not consulted about whether or not an ideology should be added to their acronym, that directly contradicts their own sexual orientation.

Have you not read the Denton report? This was a deliberate strategy. Resulting in how you have, apparently, concluded that transgenderism formed gay pride. No it didn't. Nor did the Stonewall riots stand for transgenderism.

How could they? Homosexuality is based on sex.

Transgenderism says it isn't.

Seriously. Stop with the rampant homophobia.

merrymouse · 30/08/2021 10:50

LGB and T marched for equality and acceptance

If T were marching, it was very, very quietly. They just haven’t been a high profile group until recently. They certainly weren’t on anyone’s radar in the 80’s or particularly associated in the public consciousness with gay people. Certainly nobody thought somebody who was completely gender conforming could be trans simply by identifying as a different gender.

OldCrone · 30/08/2021 10:49

To march in Pride and to exclude one of the pivotal groups

I'm cynical of a lot of trans ideology but not this. You cannot scrap them from the title, they are as much part of the title as the LG and B.

Pivotal group? Stonewall only added the T in 2015. Was Stonewall also a transphobic hate group up until 2015 in your opinion?

In 2015, and following a six-month consultation with trans communities, Stonewall became trans inclusive.

FloralBunting · 30/08/2021 10:49

For any ignoramus coming here perpetuating popular lies about gay people 'owing' our rights to trans people, and for those who may not be up to speed on the history of lesbian and gay rights in the UK, you might find this article necessary reading:

lesbianandgaynews.com/2021/08/as-pride-in-london-wants-2022-to-be-the-year-of-queer-professional-judy-says-were-not-subversive-were-not-unusual-were-not-deviants-and-we/

You can take your ignorant historical revisionism and stick it. The L and G, and then the B fought for our rights and equality. We owe the T fuck all, and are under no obligation to include them in anything at all, particularly when they campaign and press for homosexuals to be open to heterosexuality or stay closeted.

Oh piss off. I'm bisexual and I'm perfectly capable of not behaving like a rabid lunatic around people I disagree with. Stop using shitty excuses to justify the behaviour of a mob of braying donkeys.

Helleofabore · 30/08/2021 10:44

FFS. I have been to rallies where people have dissenting views are present and they are simply ignored.

Mind you, they were feminist gatherings and a few people actually attempted dialogue with those dissenters. But no violence, no gloating about it being the highlight of their day, week or year.

They were eventually ignored! Like this man could have been.

Not one person there on Saturday needed to have abused him, or even taken notice of him. Not ONE.

And people are still claiming the mob was on the right side of history. Why? Was it hurt feelings?

merrymouse · 30/08/2021 10:44

It's offensive to turn up in an LGT t-shirt. He went looking for a reaction, he got one.

This is exactly what people used to say about Pride marches - before they got into the business if being sponsored by HSBC.

merrymouse · 30/08/2021 10:41

Lots of people don't believe in bisexuality.

LGBA don’t say they don’t believe in trans people. They just specifically campaign for the rights of LGB people, which are sometimes in conflict with trans people who, to put it bluntly, don’t believe in same sex attraction.

somethinginoffensive · 30/08/2021 10:41

you can't just drop a letter because you don't agree with it

So every organisation, poster, t-shirt, hat, umbrella etc etc has to have LGBT on it? Is that what you are seriously saying?

Have you never been to a protest? They usually have a common cause but within that lots of different groups representing different sections/thoughts.

GromblesofGrimbledon · 30/08/2021 10:35

He can't drop a letter but everyone else can constantly add letters to the alphabet soup?

Nah...

Man: ''Officer, I'd like to report theft, and an assault against me for being a same-sex attracted man.''

Officer: ''Alright, but before we start...what were you wearing at the time? Just to help us understand if you were asking for it or not?''

You can't just drop a letter? Sorry but thousands of ppl have done just that , deal with it. How about : you can't just add a letter? By what authority , who did you consult? The most obtuse post I'll read today.
somethinginoffensive · 30/08/2021 10:32

It's the same kind of reaction that the dictionary definition of woman gets.

It bears repeating - a gay man was forced to leave pride because he supported an organisation for gay, lesbian and bisexual people.

Diversity of thought not allowed!

Helleofabore · 30/08/2021 10:32

Whilst excluding his support for trans rights.

Which rights have been excluded ?

Helleofabore · 30/08/2021 10:30

And again let us keep repeating, LGB Alliance has trans people supporters and supports trans people.

They centre people who are only interested in upholding their rights as people wanting same sex relationships. Not same gender.

They are NOT trans exclusionary.

That some of their aims conflict with stonewall’s should be enough of a sign that stonewall doesn’t represent a growing number of LGB people.

Quaggersx · 30/08/2021 10:30

To march in Pride and to exclude one of the pivotal groups is just downright disrespectful to the memory of the members of the trans community

Maybe you should tell that to the T who are violently and aggressively excluding the LGB. Because that's bloody disrespectful.

AfternoonToffee · 30/08/2021 10:27

He's more than entitled to his own opinion but you can't just drop a letter because you don't agree with it.

Yes you can, you can choose any of the letters to align to.

Clymene · 30/08/2021 10:26

The Stonewall riots were about lesbian and gay rights. Nothing to do with trans at all
