Gay man 'bullied' off Manchester Pride for wearing LGB Alliance hat and t-shirt

LibDem activist delighted by this. Here are two of her tweets. The gay man who turned up in an LGB hat and t-shirt was allegedly advised by police to leave for his own safety and seems to have had the hat stolen.

Another young fool tweeted that 'bullying the guy in the LGB Alliance shirt who came to the protest march is my favourit part of Pride so far xx'. He has since deleted this (possibly because he is now sober and/or has seen how many people had reported this to his employers) and now claims he was just chanting 'Trans lives matter!'. 'Bullying' is an odd choice of words for this. How could anyone think admitting publicly to 'bullying' was a good look?

The LGB Alliance man has been advised that people shouting at him is actually assault if he wants to take it further. Doesn't sound like he does, though.

Unedifying, to say the least.

Good point.

It's not gender non cornforming for a male to be sexually attracted to women and attempt to coerce us into sex, people, even by claiming they are lesbians too.

That as stereotypically male behaviour as you can get.

Giraffe19856 · 30/08/2021 12:03

How on earth is trans gnc anyway. They are opposites.

RedDogsBeg · 30/08/2021 12:03
**@Yourstupidityexhaustsme* That man can walk so freely due to the actions of members of the trans community like Marsha P. Johnson who was a pioneer for both gay rights and AIDS awareness.*

You know this isn't true right? 1. Johnson was absolutely in no way pivotal in starting the Stonewall riot. That was a lesbian woman. And 2. Johnson WAS NOT TRANS!!!!!! I mean it's supposed to be literal violence to deliberately misgender someone but despite the fact that Johnson actually specified that he was absolutely not a transwoman, it's been decided that he didn't know his own identity and can be called trans all the time now that he's dead so can't keep correcting people! He was a gay man.
They do love to re-write history in their favour. Can't allow facts to get in the way of their rebranding.

They chant 'don't deny my existence' and then routinely deny anyone else doing the same.

They say 'people are who they say they are' but they mean, 'people are who we say they are', authoritarian much?

Giraffe19856 · 30/08/2021 12:03

One of APs recent posts says that trans people are gender non conforming and brave.

No. Brave would be to be gnc but live proudly as your natal sex.

GromblesofGrimbledon · 30/08/2021 11:59

@Giraffe19856

Marsha P Johnson wasnt bloody trans.

I cant bear this transwashing of history.

His Wikipedia page goes to painful efforts to avoid saying "he" at all costs.

"Johnson this and Johnson that."

FloralBunting · 30/08/2021 11:56

Seriously, please read the article I posted if you haven't.

The bloody cheek of all the woke whining about colonialism while superimposing an inaccurate gloss of US history over the UK campaign for equal lesbian and gay rights is really fucking me off.

GromblesofGrimbledon · 30/08/2021 11:54

@FloralBunting

Despicable cuntery

Love this. I feel a name change coming on... Grin

MistandMud · 30/08/2021 11:52

Plus… they were American. Manchester is in the UK. British gay rights don’t depend on US arguments.

trancepants · 30/08/2021 11:50

@Yourstupidityexhaustsme That man can walk so freely due to the actions of members of the trans community like Marsha P. Johnson who was a pioneer for both gay rights and AIDS awareness.

FloralBunting · 30/08/2021 11:46

Alex was part of the protest, which incidentally about the corporate hypocrisy in Pride events and promotions. He did not go to provoke, he went as part of the march, and if you watch footage from earlier you can see him walking along talking with a friend in the middle of the march. He wore a t shirt and hat with the logo of a charity specifically for people with the two minority sexualities, homosexuality and bisexuality.

He did not go to provoke, he is a gay man with an interest in corporations using LGBTQ+ marketing and giving very little back.

So how about people stop fucking lying about him and LGB Alliance, and stop supporting homophobic bullying? Despicable cuntery.

Marguerite2000 · 30/08/2021 11:43

Childish
And narcisstic. They seem to have the bizarre notion that they must be included in everything, and no one can do anything without them, ever.
The writing was on the wall when we saw the meltdowns over the pink pussy hats on the Women's marches a few years ago. They literally couldn't believe that women can express ourselves without, not just including, but centering them.
This is an extension of that. They started with lesbians, then women generally and now moved onto gay men.

GromblesofGrimbledon · 30/08/2021 11:32

TRAs promote a notion of "belief" and "validation" and "existence".

No one who is gender critical or a member of LGBA is saying that trans is a fiction. This is just a bullshit argument. Saying trans people "exist" or are "valid" is such a pointless thing to say. No one says otherwise. Christ, we could hardly be mistaken about their existence when they never shut up. They'd like to have everyone believe that gay and trans people who support LGBA don't exist however. Funny that.

GC people argue that there is a push from certain trans people and their self-identified (ever-widening umbrella of) queer allies, to demand what they see as "rights" which are above and beyond the rights of other groups of people and which trample upon the rights of these other groups.

They demand trans privilege and when they don't get it they say we are "denying their existence", i.e. Look at me! Look at me! I'm over here! You're not looking at meeeeee!

Childish.

Deliriumoftheendless · 30/08/2021 11:30

As Grombles has said Of course you can “drop a letter” now it’s LGBTetc a whole lot of letters are being dropped- including by the posters saying he’s in the wrong for supporting the LGBA.

If you’re truly inclusive you should be asking about the Q and the I and all the others shoehorned in.

Helleofabore · 30/08/2021 11:29

The question should be why does stating support for an organisation supporting same sex attraction and doesn’t focus gender identity garner such a reaction?

And why has such a violent reaction been judged as acceptable? Worthy of praise even?

NotBadConsidering · 30/08/2021 11:22

So what if he went looking for a reaction? The question should be why does stating support for an organisation supporting same sex attraction and doesn’t focus gender identity garner such a reaction?

RedDogsBeg · 30/08/2021 11:22

Yes HeddaAga the victim blaming is repulsive.

For the avoidance of doubt: there are posters on this thread who are justifying and condoning an assault on and theft from a gay man because of what he was wearing

As PurgatoryofPotholes said - where have we heard that before, who do we still hear it from?

MistandMud · 30/08/2021 11:17

Lots of people don't believe in bisexuality.

What on earth does that even mean? Some people are sexually attracted to both sexes. That’s just a fact that remains true regardless of belief.

RedDogsBeg · 30/08/2021 11:13

@Yourstupidityexhaustsme

I see this from both sides.

He's more than entitled to his own opinion but you can't just drop a letter because you don't agree with it.

Lots of people don't believe in bisexuality. It's offensive to turn up in an LGT t-shirt. He went looking for a reaction, he got one.

You've got an answer to your post @PurgatoryOfPotholes.

It is acceptable in the above posters eyes to attack someone because of the clothes they are wearing.

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 30/08/2021 11:13

@merrymouse

Also, whatever Marsha PJohnson did or didn’t do in the US, the country has been comparatively slow to create federal laws to protect gay rights, so it’s not clear why gay people in the U.K. should be grateful to whoever threw a brick on a different continent.
Incidentally, Marsha P Johnson identified as a gay man. Not a transwoman.
Marguerite2000 · 30/08/2021 11:12

@merrymouse

They were beaten and kicked and attacked, arrested, spat on, ostracised etc.

Where are you getting this from? Until recently In the U.K., the only well known trans person was Jan Morris.

This might be because trans people have felt forced into reclusiveness, but don’t you think there would be be a more prominent trans campaigner from the 80s - an Ian McKellan or a Peter Tatchell, if trans people had really been heavily involved in campaigning for gay rights?

I think historically speaking, drag artists and transsexuals were incorporated and accepted into gay culture. They didn't dominate it though, and that didn't include hetrosexual crossdressers and self identifiers who now come under the stonewall umbrella, so there wasn't the same threat to lesbians.
Helleofabore · 30/08/2021 11:12

So would the abusive mob be still justified if a person watched them and maybe followed them a bit wearing a t-shirt that said ‘I am proud and straight’ or something?

Or is this particular angry mob justified in being violent if they see anything they don’t agree with. Because why?

Why does this group get the entitlement to behave in this way?

If posters supporting this behaviour don’t see they have effectively mandated that this group has rights above everyone else to never be exposed to something that they disagree with, they must be very entrenched.

There is no well thought out argument for supporting that behaviour. There is no tenable reason to support it. You (general you) either think one single person (a gay man at a pride event in the case) cannot have a different opinion or you think this group of people cannot be expected to behave in a reasonable fashion. Ever.

I am not sure which is worse?

NecessaryScene · 30/08/2021 11:11

And, for clarity, people waving rainbow flags or pink-white-and-blue flags are also not asking for it, and that does not justify assaulting them, no matter how offensive anyone finds them, or if anyone believes they are "looking for a reaction".

Datun · 30/08/2021 11:09

@FloralBunting

For any ignoramus coming here perpetuating popular lies about gay people 'owing' our rights to trans people, and for those who may not be up to speed on the history of lesbian and gay rights in the UK, you might find this article necessary reading:

lesbianandgaynews.com/2021/08/as-pride-in-london-wants-2022-to-be-the-year-of-queer-professional-judy-says-were-not-subversive-were-not-unusual-were-not-deviants-and-we/

You can take your ignorant historical revisionism and stick it. The L and G, and then the B fought for our rights and equality. We owe the T fuck all, and are under no obligation to include them in anything at all, particularly when they campaign and press for homosexuals to be open to heterosexuality or stay closeted.

That's a fabulous article. And yes, we lose sight of the fact that the Stonewall riots was nothing to do with UK gay rights.

Once again for those at the back 'he was asking for it.' This. Is. Victim. Blaming. The behaviour captured on camera. Having a gay man removed from 'Pride' by police. Chanting slogans at him for his sins. These are not proportionate responses. None of these things are his fault. They're the fault of the homophobes who can't control their own reaction to a t-shirt. A t-shirt which asserts his sexuality.
