Gay man 'bullied' off Manchester Pride for wearing LGB Alliance hat and t-shirt

LibDem activist delighted by this. Here are two of her tweets. The gay man who turned up in an LGB hat and t-shirt was allegedly advised by police to leave for his own safety and seems to have had the hat stolen.

Another young fool tweeted that 'bullying the guy in the LGB Alliance shirt who came to the protest march is my favourit part of Pride so far xx'. He has since deleted this (possibly because he is now sober and/or has seen how many people had reported this to his employers) and now claims he was just chanting 'Trans lives matter!'. 'Bullying' is an odd choice of words for this. How could anyone think admitting publicly to 'bullying' was a good look?

The LGB Alliance man has been advised that people shouting at him is actually assault if he wants to take it further. Doesn't sound like he does, though.

Unedifying, to say the least.

Labelling support for the gay community as hateful does far more damage, is far more divisive and will decimate the community your child relies on.

Maybe PP would like to listen to Andrew Doyle interview a young gay man and a young lesbian about THEIR community (including Doyle’s). I am very concerned about the teenagers and young LGB people today who are facing ‘toxicity’ from within their community at their choice to define their sexual boundaries.

Maybe PP will listen to detransitioners who have spoken up in support of LGB Alliance for representing them after they were ‘shunned’.

Even rainbow families seem to have people with different needs and opinions. Why do people think it ever was or should be one same thinking group.

aliasundercover · 30/08/2021 12:36

TRAs physically assaulting gay man at Pride event = justifiable protest
Wearing a t-shirt = hate and literal violence

Quaggersx · 30/08/2021 12:35

Sounds entirely reasonable to me. After all, only an unreasonable person would expect a gay person to change their sexuality to same gender, rather than same sex attracted, in order to support trans people identities. Would you not agree?

@RedDogsBeg

So let's see those hateful posts then *@andrelax*.
Well, there were those posts saying he deserved it for wearing a t-shirt.
CuriousaboutSamphire · 30/08/2021 12:35

Nice twist. Not sure your interpretation holds water though.

I have read the thread. It's not a stock template. I was talking from the heart. Hatred for Trans people runs through so many of the comments and that's what prompted my post. If you can't see that things are worse than I thought.
Quote just one of them. If there are 'so many' that should be nice and easy for you...

Wow what a toxic, depressing thread this is. I have a beautiful Trans daughter who is gradually, tentatively trying to be brave enough to emerge from her internal prison, which she has been trapped in for years. There are so many hurdles, so much misinformation, and so much hatred. The LGBT community is essential for people like her to feel part of a supportive network. She is also bisexual. Why do you want to exclude her from the rainbow family? My heart breaks for her when reading these responses.
Please don't.

Your lack of understanding is what will harm your child. Holding tight to misinformation and lies will harm her more than any GC person pointing out that a man should be able to support the LGB community without it being seen as hateful.

Labelling support for the gay community as hateful does far more damage, is far more divisive and will decimate the community your child relies on.

Those hurdles include blindly accepting TRA mantras. Be kinder to your child.

Quaggersx · 30/08/2021 12:28

All we usually get is the statement that we are hateful, followed by further vague allegations and a flounce.

Yes. Maybe this time it will be different. I do like reasoned debate and discussion...

Do you support those who assaulted a gay man for stating his sexual boundaries?

Or are you calling those who condemn this type of violent behavior as toxic?

Does it? Please do point out the hateful posts. I'm always happy to consider and re-evaluate. ☺️

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 30/08/2021 12:26

Just for once it would be nice if someone alleging that we hate trans people would give us examples and explain why each post is hateful. All we usually get is the statement that we are hateful, followed by further vague allegations and a flounce.

Well, don't keep your thoughts to yourself. Explain.

Explain what constitutes hatred.

Or do you agree that a gay man should've been thrown out of gay pride, for being gay?

Perhaps you could quote?

I don’t think it is helpful to anyone to perceive hatred that doesn’t exist.

Why do you want to exclude her from the rainbow family?

Nobody is excluding her from receiving support. They are just asserting boundaries that they need to protect their rights. That is not hateful or toxic.

I suggest you read the thread.

No one is excluding your child. No one. But groups are very clearly keen to exclude people who define their sexual orientation as same sex.

Do you support those who assaulted a gay man for stating his sexual boundaries?

Or are you calling those who condemn this type of violent behavior as toxic?

NonnyMouse1337 · 30/08/2021 12:17

andrelax Quit the hyperbolic guilt trip. It doesn't work here.
Your child already has access to a very well funded 'rainbow family'.
Lesbians, gay men and bisexual people who don't accept homophobia are entitled to advocate for their own groups and should be free to express their views in public without harassment and mob violence. People should be able to ignore others they disagree with. The 'rainbow family' needs to learn this crucial life lesson.

Really? Seriously? You think that people disagreeing that gay men should be thrown out of gay pride for being gay, are the ones exhibiting hatred? And not the homophobes who chucked him out?

We really are back to the 1950s, aren't we.

Eh? Have you actually bothered to read the thread? No one wants to exclude your child.

A bloke got bullied off a Pride March for wearing a t shirt showing his support for an LGB charity.

That's what the thread's about. Not excluding trans people Hmm
