Hana contraceptive pill

I’ve just followed an ad on here for the Hana contraceptive pill and I was pleased to see that it said it was for women and people with uteruses.

I just wanted to say well done to them on the wording.

It's so frustrating as female from birth and through life is scientifically through XX chromosomes. How are TW thinking their cells are XX and how are TM thinking they're XY...perhaps they also think the world is flat?

NiceGerbil · 28/08/2021 22:07

@Enough4me

Why not use the word female then?

If women means women and men, just refer to females TM are still female so it is inclusive for them.

Plenty of transwomen consider themselves to be 'cis' women/ female/ female from birth.

The whole point is that there must be no words to group the half of the population who when they are born 'it's a girl'.

Even though we need a term any term to group us for myriad reasons. Incredibly important ones.

Instead we have to be carved up into groups that sometimes overlap or not. That ignore the reality of our biology. (Menstruators? Useless. Again you have to assume based on being female). Refer to us by our sex/ reproductive organs. Vagina. Womb. Bleeder. Front hole. As through history and over the world we have been seen and still are. Not whole people but holes. Breeders. Etc.

It's totally misogynistic.

A trans girl is a girl but an 8 month old baby female human is what. An infant with a vagina? Human young with assumed capacity to be impregnated?

Yeah it's all shit. And women and told it's important and cruel not to nod and say. Yes I'm holes and baby machine.

Nah.

NiceGerbil · 28/08/2021 21:57

There was a thread recently about cervix Havers where this came up.

The response was that the presence of a cervix is noted and recorded at birth.

???!!!!
@Whatwouldscullydo I think most people know if they have a uterus or not
Ah was just thinking and this post is good for my point.

There is a massive issue with this language.

Person with a penis/ testicles/ vulva well ok you can see that.

How does anyone know if they have a uterus? Or ovaries? You can't see them. If you've had a baby or surgery on those parts then yes you know.

But otherwise?

You ASSUME that you have them. Because you are female.

It's massively circular. In addition to all the other issues.

But the language itself is nonsense.

How would you know the phrase person with a uterus meant you?

Only because you know you're female and that is usual in female biology.

IF internal gender ID was everything. And sex irrelevant. Anyone can have whatever parts. Not linked to man woman male female etc. I mean that was totally embedded.

Then the term people with uteruses is useless. Because how does anyone know if they have one or not when they can't see them.

donquixotedelamancha · 28/08/2021 21:46

But if I was non-binary I wouldn’t be a woman but I’d still have a uterus

You can be a woman even if not biologically born female.

@CMcA21 Hopefully I'm not derailing too much if I ask what you mean by this?

To speed things up:

 1. I gather from PPs you mean that woman is an identity (like being Welsh) rather than a sex?
 1. I think you accept sex exists (?) but want people to start using other words for women/females and just use women to mean feminine people.
 1. If the above is correct, why do you keep talking as if the above is the 'normal' way of describing things? I am required by law to teach the 'traditional' meaning to kids, dictionaries still use that meaning and the trans people I know don't push the description you are using. Are you being disingenuous or have I misunderstood?
@EdgeOfACoin woman = female, man = male
If these are your definitions but you agree that sex and gender are different, what are your biological/sex names and definitions for the the two sexes of humans?

Cailleach1 · 28/08/2021 20:35
@SirVixofVixHall you can’t be a non-binary woman. Non-binary means neither male or female.

@Cailleach1 no, as ive said previously not everyone who identifies as a woman has a uterus. And not everyone who has a uterus is a woman. We’re just going round in circles. You can be a woman even if not biologically born female. You might not agree but that’s on you
No. Really think it is on you. I'm dealing in biological reality. There is such a thing as objective fact. If according to newspeak (or twaddle as I like to call it), someone says a man is a woman, can a female of another species also be a woman? Same difference. One is male, the other not human.

Fitt · 28/08/2021 20:11

'Masculine' and 'feminine' then, as they relate to being male and female. Semantics.

Surely uterus is a binary word, it's not possible to have a non binary uterus, they are always female. Why are the rules so inconsistent?

Stupid stuff

Blibbyblobby · 28/08/2021 20:08

For the record, I didn't report the post that used a word associated with hate towards me.

Since I know it's not true, I simply took it as an opportunity to make some pertinent clarifications.

Given the nastiness and aggression that accusation is usually made with, I do understand why someone felt it should be removed and that's ok.

However, I want to reassure those debating with me that I didn't silence your words. On the contrary, I welcome every opportunity you take to make your position so very clear.

Whatwouldscullydo · 28/08/2021 19:56

Its hardly semantics. That's an.entirely different meaning.

I think you should perhaps define your terms so we can all.be clear what you are talking about.

Masculinity or femininity has no relevance to contraception or to words used to describe the sex classes if the human.species.

Most of us reject the stereotypes. We are still biologically men or women. Male and female. So we are all non binary then?

But apparently you can't be a non binary woman yet we simultaneously are.

MolyHolyGuacamole · 28/08/2021 19:48

@Whatwouldscullydo

But male and female is sex not gender.

Blibbyblobby · 28/08/2021 19:42

Because they do not subscribe to society's established ideas of male and female as genders, again HTH.

Not really established, more imposed.

Perhaps after a few decades of #NoDebate, one-voice-only education and using cultural and economic power to force public silence from anyone who disagrees, those idea will indeed become established.

But do not make the mistake of taking forced compliance to be enthusiastic consent.

HTH.

MolyHolyGuacamole · 28/08/2021 19:39

@Whatwouldscullydo

Yes we know gender is a social construct. Bit someone else just said that nkn binary means neither male or female so how does that work because eveeyone has a biological sex.

That's on you.

I care about female people of all gender identities.

And indeed male people of all gender identities.

I wish trans people, and people of all gender identities, a safe and fulfilling life.

I don't think redefining the word Woman to leave female people nameless and thereby destroy female rights and protections is the right way to get there.

Do you?

Whatwouldscullydo · 28/08/2021 19:36

Yes women are female.

So it's sex not identity. It can't mean both

MolyHolyGuacamole · 28/08/2021 19:34

@Whatwouldscullydo

How can you not ne male or female though Everyone has a sex.

Theybcan tell the sex of the embryos when people have ivf.

You can tell the sex via ultrasound in uterus from.about 18 weeks onwards.

Identity doesn't change that.

And woman/man denotes the species of which the.female/male is a member of.

How can you be neither ?

Because sex is biological, gender is a social construct, HTH.
Fleek · 28/08/2021 19:33

Well I don't think this is very sensible.

They've covered transmen. They've clearly tried to cover non-trans women, and very decent of them too, given we are specks of invisible dirt. But if twaw ARE women then they're risking people of the male sex walking out of a pharmacy with a prescription for these tablets and goodness knows what happens to those people then. Or does twaw extend to it all being safe and ok somehow? If biology is a spectrum and all?

Non-binary people have definitely been excluded though and the twitter mob should tackle that

CMcA21 · 28/08/2021 19:32

I'm okay, thanks, hun.

I'm just curious as to what your definition of 'woman' is - please could you enlighten me? I would like to be educated.

My definition of woman = adult human female (female denoting the sex class that produces large gametes, typically able to gestate and bear young etc).

Your definition of woman = ?

Only under the new, exclusive and regressive definition of Woman, the one disempowers the female half of the population by removing their name and their rights as a distinct group.

Under the original meaning of the word, all women were female. And because it was the name for that group of people, it's the name now attached to the rights and protections that they fought for as women, a female, single sex group.

In my opinion, suffering millennia of sexism under the name Woman (or its translations in earlier and other languages) should be enough to justify the right to keep our own name. Males who want a mixed-sex name for the gender identity they share with with some (but not all) female people should choose their own name, not demand our name and with it, our rights and protections as well.

You might not agree. You might think what male people want is more important than the right of female people to their own name.

That's on you.
