And by ‘peaked’ I mean my usually mild mannered don’t rock the boat just be kind oh mums going on about that trans stuff again ABSOLUTELY LOST HIS SHIT at 17yo DD telling him ‘super straight’ is transphobic as fuck.

I’ve never heard him swear as much as he did at DD telling him ladycock is a thing. He’s not remotely homophobic but being told he should theoretically accept ladycock into his sex life was a tipping point.

He gets it now.

OP posts:

I think op may have been referring to the seen the light element and perhaps not the words used, that was my interpretation anyway.

I know from my own experience, particularly when something means a lot to me, and someone close to me doesn't really get it it is annoying and creates distance and disparity, now dh finally gets it, op can be relieved that he understands her better/her feelings and they are now in close agreement about a subject that is meaningful to her. She is celebrating that element in my view.

PrincessNutella · 27/08/2021 13:21

Men are allowed to have sexual boundaries, too, ffs.

SquirryTheSquirrel · 27/08/2021 13:07

@stepupandbecounted

Parents do sometimes lose their shit, even the mostly saintly ones. It. happens. All. The Time.

We have to also acknowledge said 'child' is 17 and virtually an adult, and does not sound like a wallflower.

I do not agree with swearing or shouting period, but come on, everyone does from time to time. It is okay to be honest about the limits of human patience and endurance.

Yes, I'm not denying it happens, but it's not an event where congratulations are in order, as the OP seems to think.

My favourite tweet from yesterday. Looking at my tummy button now ….
The tweet username says "@thenursemattie" surely they can't have taken biology and passed!
stepupandbecounted · 27/08/2021 13:06

When I lose my shit it is usually when I have stepped in dog shit that blended in with the wooden floors, it is not pretty admittedly and I usually blow a blood vessel or two. Anger is a perfectly normal human reaction, as long as he was not violent or threatening then so what?! He is allowed a view, and he is allowed in a free country to express that view however he sees fit within reason.

@DaphneDeloresMoorhead

I blame shit, adonyne, bland music. No punk rock or radical music out there that they can identify and shock their parents with. I listened to Nirvana, Guns and Roses, heavy metal to rebel. Ed Sheehan and all these boring musicians just have nothing to "shove In your parents face". Being gay is fine. Teenagers have nothing to rebel against anymore. Gender identity is the new teen rebellion
Absolutely this, and all the things that went with it - the endless variety of dress styles that gave you a way to safely experiment with what you'd now call 'identity', the (mostly low level) rivalry with other music/style tribes in school and around town as well as your parents, meeting other human beings (not online strangers with anime avatars pretending to be your friend) in the un-airbrushed real world at gigs and clubs and festivals and even shopping malls...

I don't understand what bullshit the DD is on about Confused
SquirryTheSquirrel · 27/08/2021 13:00

@Cazzovuoi

ABSOLUTELY LOST HIS SHIT is subjective.
The word 'lost' means there was a loss of control. That's not subjective.
Cazzovuoi · 27/08/2021 12:59

ABSOLUTELY LOST HIS SHIT is subjective.

grapewine · 27/08/2021 12:59

And, bluntly, she can fuck right off with this,

being bisexual is transphobic

I was fighting for the acceptance she currently enjoys when she was still in nappies.

SquirryTheSquirrel · 27/08/2021 12:57

The pearl clutching over a shouting match.

There's a difference between a shouting match and someone who ABSOLUTELY LOST HIS SHIT .

Anyone who has had experience of the latter will know how terrifying it is.

stepupandbecounted · 27/08/2021 12:56

Gender identity is the new teen rebellion

I agree with this entirely.

Many are changing genders on a weekly basis in our school, or switching back or changing sexuality as if it were a fashion piece of a pair of shoes.

My teens are fully on board with it, they don't actually understand it at all - if pressed they can't even name what each ones means or what their differences are. They are 16&14. The LGBT list has now grown so long it has become largely meaningless, but nonetheless they tell me it is cool to be 'pan' or whatever even though they have no clue what this means exactly or the impact it is likely to have.
It is the holy grail apparently and you can't question the holy grail or you are immediately shot down in flames - but over the years we have prised open the discussion and it is getting better. We are talking at least about consequences in prisons and there is a glimmer of recognition about safety that was not there before.

grapewine · 27/08/2021 12:55

@MadamBatty

She sounds an entitled madam or should that be xadam. What’s her plan for her life?
I was wondering about this as well while reading.

"I told them I have motivation issues."

Christ alive.

pecanmix · 27/08/2021 12:55

I pray by the time my dd is old enough to understand it that this shit is over with. My god what a complete load of bollocks

BluebellsGreenbells · 27/08/2021 12:52

and suddenly feels like she was brainwashed by society.

This is what worries me. It’s a strong message being debated all day everyday by these children. It’s not a small part in who they are it’s considered everything.

Kikako · 27/08/2021 12:51

No circumstances under which I'd be gleeful about my husband talking to our daughter like this.

Children don't listen to parents at the best of times but when they've lost their tempers, they're usually talking rubbish and children know it.

Cazzovuoi · 27/08/2021 12:49

The pearl clutching over a shouting match.

Try living with Italians Grin

OP I have had shouty arguments with my DD before she peaked. She called me a TERF and I saw red and roared at her out of sheer frustration. I get it. Ignore the perfect parents.

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 27/08/2021 12:49

Siri, show me an example of shitmumsnet. Christ, you'd really do this to your own child for the sake of your ideology?

Might help if you read the ops posts

Shes not doing it because her daughter disagrees with her

SquirryTheSquirrel · 27/08/2021 12:49

As someone who had a father renowned for frightening outbursts, I don't think this is something to be boasting about.

I have no idea ... who is expected to accept ladycock.

Really? The OP says this:

I’ve never heard him swear as much as he did at DD telling him ladycock is a thing. He’s not remotely homophobic but being told he should theoretically accept ladycock into his sex life was a tipping point.

There are some strangely obtuse readings of the OP's posts going on in this thread.

Applesonthelawn · 27/08/2021 12:44

I have no idea who shouted at who, if DD is male or female, who is expected to accept ladycock. As if the subject isn't tricky enough in the first place.

ittakes2 · 27/08/2021 12:44

I can see why you two don't get on. Her behaviour is not appropriate but I think she might be modelling some of her ag on your behaviour.
