Are younger teens and pre-teens rejecting gender woo?

Saw someone on Twitter say this. My own early teen, who loves to disagree with me for the hell of it has started critiquing gender woo by herself. "I used to say stuff to wind you up, Mum. But it's just so ridiculous, isn't it". A classmate changes pronouns a few times a week and shouts at you if you misgender them apparently. Teen getting fed up of it.

Dd1 is happy to go along with things as far as names/pronouns for friends. But doesn't actually believe you can change sex. Was absolutely horrified about rapists in womens prisons and males in womens sports.

Sadly she was also under the illusion school would keep her and her friends safe so she was a bit shocked that she could potentially not have that safety net.

Have made sure she knows she's allowed to say no to whoever she wants and if they call her a bigot she doesn't give a crap.

I have also told her not to give in to emotional blackmail. I know thankfully that she does recognise when people are being controlling/possessive. And I have made sure she knows that people are responsible for their own actions and their own mental well being and she has no intention of taking any notice if anyone tells her she needs to say/do X or they will hurt themselves.

She thinks labels are stupid and restrictive and she has no time for them.

One good thing about the dickheads who call her an fucking emo bitch out theor car windows is that she now knows she doesn't owe anyone anything.

In short. She doesn't believe it. Will play along to a point with friends but ultimately has no interest in being responsible for anyone but her self and isn't afraid to tell people to fuck off either.

Interesting.

I wonder if what with all the cancel culture, JKR hate and things like pronouns reaching the mainstream corporate culture, being GC has now become the new oppressed minority?? Which obviously means it will become fashionable among teens Grin

Tirediam · 22/08/2021 21:04

There are absolutely loads of accounts on Instagram that speak the truth against all this woman bashing nonsense…
Look for @rad_to.the.bone and loads of her followers and who she is following. It’s heartening to see so many woman not backing down. Because of my job it’s the only place I can follow this openly because my workplace is up Stonewalls ass.

Tangledtresses · 22/08/2021 20:48

@salooone kettle 😂😂

namechange7865 · 22/08/2021 20:45

Have started to talk to my 11 year old about it, trying not to be too forceful as he needs to form his own opinion and he's still young, but I have been highlighting injustices such as Laurel Hubbard which he was astonished by. Really hope it'll help him look at it all rationally when it gets rammed down his throat at school.

Row1n · 22/08/2021 20:41

My gay ds, 16 is firmly GC. Has a trans friend whom he supports and genders as requested but is firmly twaNw and should not be in female spaces and vice versa

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 22/08/2021 20:40

So jealous of you all, my two (19 and 21) are fully captured in that way only privileged middle class kid can be - they have a very rose tinted view of the world on the whole. Unfortunately I didn’t know about this issue until too late and I’m just hoping that the odd seed will make it through eventually. Funnily enough the boys that they know are much more GC and even a bit transphobic at times - double standards.
My wonderful nephew (15) however off his own bat started telling me about how it was all ridiculous and was scathing about the blue hair uniform too. It was a breath of fresh air.

TheSockMonster · 22/08/2021 20:39

I overheard DS joking with a friend that he “didn’t want to annoy the LGBTBBQ kids”

(I hasten to add that he is all for the LGB and most of the T too!)

SeaShoreGalore · 22/08/2021 20:39

My 13 year old thinks it's all ridiculous

MrsPnut · 22/08/2021 20:36

My girls are both GC, from listening to me and also because they can see the logic in not being able to change sex. We have a few trans people working in shops we use and they see me being polite and friendly to them. You can be kind and still feel strongly that women’s and girl’s right need protecting.

My youngest daughter talked about someone in her class as being dramatic, using them being vegan and non binary as the evidence.

FrangipaniBlue · 22/08/2021 20:34

He also jokes that he identifies as a LGBTQ+HDBoschTV Grin

FrangipaniBlue · 22/08/2021 20:33

@MissyB1

My 12 year old ds has his eyes wide open and isn't falling for it, the girls in his year are going for it big time though unfortunately.
Same with my DS13 and his mates.

Boys all seem to think it's tosh but the girls on the other hand......... Hmm

smallandimperfectlyformed · 22/08/2021 20:23

My 11 year old daughter told me the other day that she thought bunny pronouns were ridiculous- it was my 18 year old downstairs (female) neighbour who told me about those! She also thought that was ridiculous! I live in a very working class area and only know of one transgender person here. As far as I know, she is treated as well as any other person which is obviously the way it should be. There did used to be a man who wore women's clothes and got into arguments with everyone and blamed it on his dress sense but he was just very argumentative from what I heard (and he was on the ASD spectrum)

Vargas · 22/08/2021 20:20

My kids were initially very annoyed if I mentioned anything that wasn't entirely positive about pronouns and trans rights. Now they're increasingly sceptical of the kids they know who are changing pronouns and then a month later changing back again. Similarly dd said she really didn't like the idea of 'the person who was Ollie who is now Gina' (not real names!) using the same changing room.

And during the Olympics we agreed that Laurel Hubbard should not have been in a women's sports competition, but dd did add 'she still has a right to exist Mum!' As if anyone ever said otherwise Hmm.

CoasterCoaster · 22/08/2021 20:09

I agree with the working class thing, that's very much my background and DSC have been brought up in one of the roughest areas around here, and it's true that the vast majority don't have time to ponder what they 'identify as'.

LobsterNapkin · 22/08/2021 20:07

@Mango1982

Any in most council estates if you announced you were trans your preferred pronouns would be dick/head

And if you get your cock out in front of kids here you will get burnt out your house 🤷‍♀️This is a middle class sit on a office kind of issue

I'd agree to a point but what I have seen here in Canada is huge numbers of kids who are in care or at risk get sucked into gender ideology. Many, though not all, come from poor or otherwise at risk families.
HasaDigaEebowai · 22/08/2021 20:04

I think a lot of kids really understand the difference between sexual preference ie lesbian gay bisexual heterosexual and “identity” which is nothing to do with any of that but gets lumped in together so that people feel they have to go along with it to be politically correct.

LadyCatStark · 22/08/2021 19:57

DS(12) thinks it’s ridiculous and he tells me (as a joke£ that he identifies as an attack helicopter and his pronouns are whizz/whirr 😂. If you mention someone is male/ female he does an over the top “did you just assume their gender??”

copernicium · 22/08/2021 19:52

DD 15 is fine with all the "usual" homosexual, bisexual etc but her and her friends are very much of the opinion that the rest is attention seeking nonsense, makes no sense and generally done by trouble makers to disrupt a lesson (eg having a tantrum that they were misgendered accidentally by a teacher).

I feel quite sorry for the teachers. I've tried to make legitimate complaints about the other children being disadvantaged by this and you can tell they are just being torn in knots trying to say the right thing.

Mango1982 · 22/08/2021 19:50

Their are people but a very minuscule amount however this explosion in blue haired he/hims is down to middle class decadence folk round here have grafting jobs were you come come dirty and sweating

We’re the poshest people in our street and I am a dinner lady and husband is a nurse nobody has time to ponder if their born in the wrong body

wednesdayweather · 22/08/2021 19:44

I have to say that from the posts here most young people seem to have greater critical thinking skills than my middle class, middle aged friends.
One even denied that men were more likely to commit sex offences than women! (she had quite a different view until she decided that, as an uber leftie, she needed to defend all this gender ideology, so now she needs to believe whatever unbelievable shite someone makes up to justify this crap).

wednesdayweather · 22/08/2021 19:41

Any in most council estates if you announced you were trans your preferred pronouns would be dick/head But that's not good though is it? Some people do have gender/body dysphoria and transitioning to live as if they are the opposite sex works for some people in managing their dysphoria. As PP said, we should be able to accept people without denying biology and compromising women's rights/ safeguarding and dignity.

I have DD (13), DSS and DSD both in early 20's and all 3 think it's nonsense thankfully. I watch DD like a hawk, she's ASD and spends more time online than I'd like so I worry she's vulnerable. She's bright though and seems to get the wider implications so I hope that will be enough to stop her getting sucked in.
