Much as I'd like Edinburgh lesbians to have their own space, taking a look at the founder I'm not sure that this space is going to be it.

It is a bit unwelcoming for people of both sexes who like a night out with their gay and straight friends, surely?

tothesea · 22/08/2021 19:32

This has been all over the digital rags of Edinburgh and one heartening thing is the comments are all critical. Usually there’s at least one ‘ooh you’re all hateful bigots’ but nope nothing nada. Ever the activists know this one is a lost cause !

Abhannmor · 22/08/2021 19:08

' Fraysexual' sounds sort of .......painful Confused

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 22/08/2021 18:28

I think that one’s greysexual.

Mrsjamin · 22/08/2021 18:27

I have a young millennial friend who states his sexuality as someone who can only have sex with someone they love, I can't remember what the term was. I mean... How did we get to this point that that has a name as different from "normal sex" devoid of love?

For the sake of clarity, I’m a non-binary trans lesbian

Christ. First they changed the meaning of the word ‘woman’ and now they’re gunning for the word ‘clarity’ ....

goinggently · 22/08/2021 14:07

Probably!!

Is there a label for people who don't identify with labels? Because I am one of them. Is it just 'grown up'?

Can we go back to the 90s now...? Things made sense then and I don't think people found themselves quite so endlessly fascinating... it is all incredibly tedious...

QueenPeary · 22/08/2021 13:59

OMG I did assume FB had made "fraysexual" up!

Does having any of these sex/relationship preferences at all make you queer, or are they just descriptors for everyone? I mean I don't want to shag some men because I don't like or fancy them - is there a word for that?

QueenPeary · 22/08/2021 13:53

Oops Titania

goinggently · 22/08/2021 13:52

Oh FFS! I just had to Google fraysexual too... turns out it's basically a fear of intimacy that's been turned into a sexual orientation with yet another flag! I cannot understand this (self)obsession with labelling and identifying and announcing themselves as this that or the other. Who cares? The only label that fits this lot, IMO, is narcissist. Beam me up!

QueenPeary · 22/08/2021 13:52

It doesn't use the word brave, but "the big hurdle for Emily was getting past the fear of quitting university" refers to the courage required.

The only possible thing more Tatiana McGrath than this article is Floralbunting's version!

MurielSpriggs · 22/08/2021 13:21

(I did actually Google fraysexual, just in case it was a real thing that I hadn't heard of! You just can't tell these days, as my gran used to say.)

Shedbuilder · 22/08/2021 13:18

That's fab, FloralBunting. Let's hope it's not too prescient.

Next Pink News item:

Jess Gumby, 37, who is a non-binary fraysexual has been talking to friends about starting a speed-dating business, because as a fraysexual, the traditional method of getting to know someone in a relaxed social setting is exclusionary, as zie isn't sexually attracted to people once zie gets to know them.

Jess has mentioned on Twitter that zie intends to cut down zers hours as a Domino's delivery driver to concentrate on asking local cafes if they would let her use their premises for zer's venture.

"I saw a bit of speed dating in a movie once, and it looks like a piece of piss. I've had people tell me I'm a bit of a trail-blazer, but honestly, it's all bigger than just me," zie said.

When asked if Jess was actually the next Dalai Lama, zie replied "No. But the pizza deliveries have shown that I'm great at interacting with lots of people briefly without it making much of a connection."

There are quite a lot of articles like this that suggest a trans person doing anything at all is newsworthy and praiseworthy

Or even contemplating doing something! Did the word "brave" crop up? I can't bear to decipher the mangled pronouns again to check Grin

QueenPeary · 22/08/2021 12:46

The main thing that boggles my mind about this is the idea that ‘person is thinking about opening a bar but doesn’t have a clear plan’ is newsworthy.

There are quite a lot of articles like this that suggest a trans person doing anything at all is newsworthy and praiseworthy - on BBC news too though it has calmed down a bit.

I live in Edinburgh and I’m a lesbian, as far as I’m aware exclusively lesbian bars have tried and failed before as the demand wasn’t there. Lesbians tend to go to planet bar from what I’ve seen, ccs get a lot of straight people and habana feminine type men. I’ve never been to the Regent before, website says it’s LGBTQ and straight friendly

CuriousaboutSamphire · 22/08/2021 12:43

I know Muriel

It's a bit like the "who is lying" logic test, but without the logic Smile

Mrsjamin · 22/08/2021 12:42

They should just add the words genderqueer and femme to those three words just to make it absolutely clear as mud.

MurielSpriggs · 22/08/2021 12:40

@CuriousaboutSamphire

I am a homosexual

For the sake of clarity, I’m a non-binary trans lesbian

My head spins trying to work that out.

I wonder, should the bar ever actually open, how many people will go and be disappointed, upset that, despite what they thought it was going to be, it really isn't for them?

Words - they have meaning for a bloody reason!

I'd be curious if anyone at all can come up with a definition for these three words/phrases, even if you don't agree with the definition, which means one person can align with all of them.

I think I can get two out of three to work, but there's always one that won't fit.

timeisnotaline · 22/08/2021 12:32

If only the single biggest hurdle for starting a successful business was to first have to dig deep and summon the courage and moral fibre to drop out of uni.

Pink News must be really bad at finding actual stories. Maybe someone has advised them they have to stop running endless hate pieces about JKR and it has left them with a hole.
