Apparently:
“If any young person, including a transgender young person, is concerned about sharing a room with others, you could consider making alternative arrangements, including giving them their own room where appropriate. If any young person voices a concern, this should be considered – responses should be reasonable and proportionate, taking into account the rights of all young people. If showers are communal, find out if there are single-cubicle or private washing facilities which could be used by any young person, including a transgender young person, who would like greater privacy.”

Doesn't chime with what I hear - which is that transgirls are girls and so must be accommodated and anyone who objects is the one likely to be found other arrangement.

@RoyalCorgi

Sue Pascoe used to be a Master of Fox Hounds, I believe, and is now an adviser on inclusion for Channel 4. Pascoe in other words matches a particular profile of high-powered men who transition later in life. I won't say the word we're not allowed to mention but the words Alpha Golf Papa spring to mind.

Interesting, I wonder if pascoe had anything to do with the reported debacle that Stella OMalley and olly (?) had getting their documentary on C4?

ludothedog · 20/08/2021 17:38

My 11 year old DD would not object to sharing her shower, changing room or accommodation at guides because she wants to be kind and inclusive. She's also bought into TWAW and wouldn't want to be called a transohobe. It's up to the adults in the room to say no, it's just not appropriate.

The erosion of women's boundaries is dangerous and enfuriating.

OldCrone · 20/08/2021 17:21

why the obsession with going through girl puberty?

“It’s funny, I’m 55, I am very hormonal, I am going through puberty again which means that I am just getting to my teenage girl years – so watch out world.”

Not sure what I can say about this without getting deleted, but some males seem to have an odd idea about what it's like to be a teenage girl.

And why would anyone think that a male adult with an abnormal level of female hormones would have anything in common with a teenage girl?

This is the Crispin Blunt who was a leading Tory rightwing opponent of gay rights legislation whilst being in the closet himself. The Crispin Blunt who regularly voted against decriminalising drugs but later admitted to taking poppers.

That Crispin Blunt.

cariadlet · 20/08/2021 16:30

I got as far as the paragraph where it mentioned children having a different gender identity from "the one they were assigned at birth" and gave up. I couldn't take it seriously after that and couldn't be bothered to read any more.

Tanith · 20/08/2021 16:30

@WarriorN

"Sue Pascoe is Area Chairman of the Conservative Women’s Organisation in North and East Yorkshire."

Sue Pascoe also welcomed the appointment of Mridil Wadhwa.

*I think 'panic' is another term like 'hysteria' loaded with gendered baggage. Women 'shriek' or 'panic' or 'spout'. We can't just 'raise concerns', the accusation is always thrown back at women's motivations or characters. We're 'bigots' or 'transphobes' or 'Karens'.

It doesn't work anymore. You can fling insults at women, impugn them and try to shift focus all you like. We see it.*

Absolutely this.

At the risk of being hypocritical, why the obsession with going through girl puberty? I note the slant has changed on the current tory page. 🤔

We see it.

boatyardblues · 20/08/2021 16:14

Address the issues, stop trying to shift focus onto the people raising the issues.

Absolutely!

donquixotedelamancha · 20/08/2021 16:12

We don't have single cubicles and showers in schools, there isn't room or money. The issue isn't the one trans kid who wants to use the girls facilities (I've never seen it the other way) it's the girls who have to be in there with him.

Even if there were, that still doesn't make it right for schools to encourage social transition (a significant and delicate medical treatment) when no illness has been diagnosed,it hasn't been medically prescribed and parents aren't supportive- which is what we are asked to do.

Mulletsaremisunderstood · 20/08/2021 15:35

@Cailleach1

Is he the sneaky chap who tried to do back room, secret lobbying on legislation? Would take whatever he says with a grain of salt. I wouldn't personally associate him with honour an integrity, never mind honesty.
Yes, that's him -

What a snake. I wouldn't trust him for a second, he has an agenda here.

WarriorN · 20/08/2021 15:28

I wonder what Sue's ex wife's side of the story is?

@Ereshkigalangcleg

“If any young person, including a transgender young person, is concerned about sharing a room with others, you could consider making alternative arrangements, including giving them their own room where appropriate.

This relates to "people concerned about sharing a room with others", so the trans person would never be asked to use a third space, but if they prefer one they can have one.

And the other children might not complain, either because they are friends with the trans child or because they don't want to be called transphobic. Does it say anything about whether parents would be told about children of the opposite sex sharing rooms?
Dancingbea · 20/08/2021 14:59

@Ereshkigalangcleg

It's very slyly worded. If you know anything about Blunt you will know that he's not a fan of women's rights.
The thing is - this isn’t true. Blunt is actually one of the few Conservative MPs who has stood up for abortion rights, while Baroness Nicholson who everyone loves on this issue has actively sought to curtail them. I am not commenting on the right or wrongness of his proposition, but we should be mindful that Gender Critical allies don’t always share feminist principles of bodily autonomy - which for me is a key part of why biological sex is so important - women have a reproductive burden that men do not and it is one which underpins discrimination.
Imnobody4 · 20/08/2021 14:55

It's typically distorting and dishonest. It could be interpreted as - if a transgender child is not comfortable with sharing with other young people of their birth sex, they should be offered a private room etc.
Somehow I don't think Crispin means that.

ArabellaScott · 20/08/2021 14:48

So, anyone who raises any safeguarding issues at all is now 'whipping up a moral panic'?

I think 'panic' is another term like 'hysteria' loaded with gendered baggage. Women 'shriek' or 'panic' or 'spout'. We can't just 'raise concerns', the accusation is always thrown back at women's motivations or characters. We're 'bigots' or 'transphobes' or 'Karens'.

Cailleach1 · 20/08/2021 14:47

In the case of a child, do they believe something or imagine something. Did my son believe at various times that he was a spiderman and a werewolf? Or did he imagine it?

Cailleach1 · 20/08/2021 14:44

C. Blunt, that is.

Cailleach1 · 20/08/2021 14:44

Is he the sneaky chap who tried to do back room, secret lobbying on legislation? Would take whatever he says with a grain of salt. I wouldn't personally associate him with honour an integrity, never mind honesty.

Changemusthappen · 20/08/2021 14:40

Surprise surprise Sue Pascoe is a trans woman. Another man who has taken a womans position.

Changemusthappen · 20/08/2021 14:37

They are trying to claim that moral panic is being whipped up unnecessarily. However on this open forum many mumsnetters have shown and archived actual events and situations that show this is not the case e.g. the situation with the Brownies.

What the government needs to do is make it very very clear that the rights of a child who believes they are the opposite sex do not trump everyone elses rights. Sex based rights should be the first set of rights that are adhered to. If a transgender teenager is on a trip they can by all means have separate facilities but the starting point should be that facilities are single sex and neither sex should be forced to share with someone because they believe they are the opposite sex.

As usual there is ome interesting and incorrect terms/wording:

a different gender identity than they were assigned at birth
nobody is assigned anything at birth and not everyone has a gender identity. Sex is observed and cannot be changed.

gender identify
is not a protected charateristic, gender re-assignemnt is

Helleofabore · 20/08/2021 14:27

And no advice for those who due to religion, also a protected category, will now be the one excluded.

Never have I seen that addressed appropriately.

AtLeastPretendToCare · 20/08/2021 14:18

I think it is pretty clear that this guidance is suggesting the complainer gets moved. So I don’t think it is the panacea he would have suggest.

WarriorN · 20/08/2021 14:17

Isn't pascoe a trans woman?
