A Green Party leader to 'welcome politically homeless women'

A candidate in the Green Party election contest wants to welcome back women who have been left politically homeless by the assault on sex-based rights.

I'd urge any Green-minded people to join or re-join the party by 27th Aug in order to vote for Shahrar Ali. You can join (if only temporarily) for as little as £13 here: join.greenparty.org.uk/

Shahrar Ali stands a good chance of winning, having previously been deputy leader and gaining 24% of first-preference votes in 2020. He is speaking up unequivocally for women's sex-based rights. You can read his full statement on Facebook here: www.facebook.com/ShahrarAliGreenParty/posts/190051301345352.

He is also in the Guardian here: www.theguardian.com/politics/2021/aug/17/green-transgender-rights-row-leadership-shahrar-ali-sian-berry

If Shahrar wins, he will be the first leader of a British political party willing to stand up to gender identity ideology.

Just a reminder to vote as soon as possible.

For anyone who hasn't been able to vote, it is worth checking that you are using the correct email address to search for the voting link, i.e. the one you registered with when joining the Green Party. Some people have a number of email addresses and this is a common reason for not being able to find your voting access.

As an extra, Kathryn Bristow did NOT win the Regional Council seat for their region today and by a deliciously impressive margin!

Even more important after that Lib Dem's leader's comments onR4 yesterday

ludothedog · 18/09/2021 08:40

My vote is cast. Fingers crossed.

RedRobin20 · 18/09/2021 07:49

Thank you @GreenGretel for organising us. I have cast my votes now and will keep my fingers crossed that Ali wins and that the Green Party does extremely well with it.

Carriemac · 06/09/2021 17:14

Thanks - have filled in form as it's definitely not in junk.

MsMcGonagall · 06/09/2021 16:44

If you haven't had the email with your voting code and it isn't in Junk, then when I enquired, I got an email asking me to fill in this form to get my code

actionnetwork.org/forms/get-your-voting-code?clear_id=true

And that worked pretty quickly and I got sent my code to enable me to vote.

TooWicked · 06/09/2021 16:01

@Carriemac

I've still not got my voting code
Mine had gone into my junk mail, it was only seeing this thread that prompted me to check.
TheMarzipanDildo · 06/09/2021 14:07

@Carriemac

I've still not got my voting code
Have you emailed them to say? (I think the address is somewhere on this thread)
Carriemac · 06/09/2021 13:59

Voted. Fingers crossed!

OhHolyJesus · 05/09/2021 22:14

Oh thanks for the explanation Mid - she really hasn't a clue has she? Just as well she is leaving. It's very 'playground politics' and the cause deserves a grown up.

I have voted for Shahrar Ali for that reason.

Thank you @GreenGretel for the reminder and the explanatory notes - I've just voted.

[quote OhHolyJesus]What has gone on here, anyone know what the tweet was that Sian Berry deleted?

Didn't she make recommendations on who to vote for in the leadership race - using her current capacity as leader to advise? After her 2 favourites she said not to vote for anybody else.

I think the ppl besides the scenes who understand politics and rules told her this was against party policy, and asked her to delete those tweets. She then reposted the same tweets under her own name without the GP colours.

Reminds me of when my kid and her friends were running for Year 6 captains hips and offered the Grade 1 sweets

AlwaysTawnyOwl · 02/09/2021 21:00

Thanks @GreenGretel. Just voted.

zighead · 02/09/2021 20:43

I've cast my vote. Thanks @GreenGretel Smile

Voting recommendations just received from [email protected]

These are our voting recommendations. Explanatory notes follow.

To vote ONLY for candidates who will defend sex-based rights:

  1. Shahrar Ali
  2. Martin Hemingway and Tina Rothery
  3. RON (Re-Open Nominations)

To vote to defend women's sex-based rights AND have a say in any run-off between other candidates

  1. Shahrar Ali
  2. Martin Hemingway and Tina Rothery
  3. Ashley Gunstock
  4. Carla Denyer and Adrian Ramsay
  5. RON (Re-Open Nominations)

Our analysis of the election
This election uses Single Transferable Vote in which you are asked to rank each candidate/s in order of preference. The counting of the votes involves several rounds. After each round the lowest-scoring candidate/s is eliminated and their voters' preferences re-distributed to the remaining candidates until only one, the winner, remains. We have offered two voting suggestions: the first prioritising only those candidates who we believe will defend women's existing legal sex-based rights; the second allows you a say between other candidates if your top preferences were to get knocked out in earlier rounds.

Please note, you DO NOT have to cast all six votes and Re-Open Nominations can be used if you don't like any other candidates.

Our suggestions address only the question of whether the candidates' recent actions and words indicate an understanding of the importance of sex in the life chances of women and girls - and of the implications if 'sex' is replaced in all situations by a concept of 'gender identity', as some propose. You should weigh this with your other priorities.

Getting your vote
Voting in Green Party leadership election opens 10am Thursday 2nd Sept and closes 10pm on 23rd September. You will receive an email from the Green Party on Thursday 2nd September with a unique code and link to the online ballot. If you don't receive a voting link, contact [email protected] to obtain a voting code.

If you get in touch with Green Feminists

I think they might have some ideas Dappled.

Dappled · 31/08/2021 22:16

I've left the Labour party because of their stance on women's rights/gender ideology and have been feeling politically homeless for the first time ever.
Joined the Greens last week in order to vote for Shahrar Ali.
I saw something shared, I think on Twitter, a link to an article about how to use all of your voting preferences strategically in order to favour Ali/women's rights. I can't find it now. Does anyone have the link or can advise on who else to give the lower preferences to?

TheABC · 28/08/2021 00:16

I doubt the Greens will ever make it as a political party as they are in (say) Germany, but they work as a political pressure group/junior partner.

At this stage, just getting someone in who will focus on the science and push forward thought out policies works for me. Anyone on the TWAW handcart clearly does not do critical thinking or unpopular politics.

We need a lot of both, moving forward.

Heruka · 27/08/2021 23:41

Just snuck in there! Thanks!

LangClegsInSpace · 27/08/2021 23:27

There is half an hour left for anyone who wants to join the green party in time to vote in the leadership elections.
