Highly useful.

A couple of further things to note :

  • Where has the advice to encourage and support children in keeping secrets from parents come from? Is it from representatives of a political agenda such as Stonewall, which is increasingly being named as 'controversial' and 'extreme' in the national press and aims to achieve a specific political agenda rather than the impartial best interests of children?

  • What qualifications have those advisors in child development, education and safeguarding to be in a position to prescribe this guidance?

  • Who has checked the compatibility of this advice with educational policy, the EqA2010, DfE guidance and safeguarding standards? Obviously will be important to ensure that safeguarding advice comes from a responsible and qualified agency without political involvement with the group prescribing this advice.

  • What liability would a school have under duty of care for failing to do the above before presenting one sided, politically partisan and highly contentious information to young children via their position of trust?

I am in England OP. BUT I think this is a brilliant post and hugely helpful, not least at outlining the issues in one place. Thank you.

Example letter to a school in Scotland

  1. I’m concerned about the guidance which saysit ‘would be helpful’ to communicate with parents, not ‘must communicate with parents’. And encourages the children to ‘socially transition without telling parents and to keep secrets. Keeping secrets goes against safeguarding. Will the school immediately share information with me as the parent/ child’s legal guardian as a matter of policy? And NOT encourage children to keep secrets?
  1. I’m concerned about the guidance anti-science dogma written by believers in ‘queer theory’ which preaches that ‘sex is spectrum’ and that ‘gender identity’ replaces sex. I’m concerned that schools will teach children to identify with labels, stereotypes, superficiality and masculine and feminine ‘performances’, encouraging them to choose an identity on a pathway to medicalisation. Whereas DfE guidance says “Materials which suggest that non-conformity to gender stereotypes should be seen as synonymous with having a different gender identity should not be used and you should not work with external agencies or organisations that produce such material”. WILL THE SCHOOL TEACH CHILDREN THAT THEIR NON-CONFORMITY MEANS THEY HAVE A DIFFERENT GENDER IDENTITY?
  1. I’m concerned that the guidance telling schools to teach queer theory based gender identity and put them on a pathway to social transition and medicalisation. DOES THE SCHOOL INTEND TO TEACH QUEER THEORY? To teach and encourage children to socially transition’?
  1. I’m concerned that the guidance tells school to teach and then AFFIRM gender identity stereotypes. DOES THE SCHOOL INTEND TO TEACH AND THEN AFFIRM GENDER IDENTITY STEREOTYPES?
  1. Does the school intend to force girls to use mixed-sex toilets and changing rooms?
  1. I’m concerned about the teaching materials which show stereotypes and teach children to identify with stereotypes. This is the opposite of Rachael Rooney’s book ‘My body is me’ which encourages children to love themselves and dress, play however they want. Does the school intend to teach children stereotypes and TEACH CHILDREN TO CHOOSE A STEREOTYPE THAT THEY ‘IDENTIFY’ WITH?
  1. I’m concerned that queer theory activists are targeting schools to get consultants, therapists, teaching assistants and materials into schools to teach queer theory gender identity. Does the school intend to expose children to people who believe in queer theory? and What contact has the school had with queer theory activists?
  1. I’m concerned that guidance is a path for society to fear and hate. [from WinglessSonglessBird post] The labelling of people leads to society seeing people as ONLY their labels, which leads to individuals placing their entire worth and identity into these labels, which leads to division, hate, fear, etc. Will the school be teaching labels? and teach children to label themselves?
  1. I’m concerned that developing children’s brains being taught dogma, can rewire their brains, constrict them, restrict them as human beings and damage them for life. Does the school commit to being neutral? And not teach dogma?
  1. I’m concerned that queer theory teaches victimhood. [building on from WinglessSonglessBird post] So kids grow up being pathologized, told they are victims and cut down into labels, more and more as they get older. Depressed, feeling like they are born flawed. So the best thing is to identify with that label completely. And anyone against said label is an attack on you. You are the label, nothing more. If it is a "bad" label, well too bad, you are a worthless human. Does the school intend to teach queer theory victimhood?

  2. I’m concerned that queer theory activists teach suicide, teach labels and not accepting labels leads to suicide. Figures show this isn’t true and it goes against the Samaritans guidelines around suicide. Does the school intend to teach about gender identity suicide?

  3. I’m concerned about de-humanising language which removes sex-based words like mother, woman, girl and replaces them with body parts like ‘cervix-havers, menstrurators, birthing people and chest feeders. Does the school intend to teach and impose gender neutral dehumanising language?

  4. I’m concerned that queer theory philosophy based proselytising that gender non-conforming children must label themselves and see the world as attacking them. Does the school intend to proselytise queer theory philosophy?

  5. I’m concerned that the guidance implies teachers shouldn’t share concerns with the safeguarding lead, which is common queer theory activist guidance as seen in the ‘Sonia Appleby safeguarding lead vs GIDS high court case’. Will the school tell teachers not to share concerns with the safeguarding lead?

  6. I’m concerned that the guidance says teach ‘gender assigned at birth’ No one assigns a gender at birth - nor does anyone assign a sex at birth. Sex is observed. In some cases a baby might have ambiguous genitalia and have a DSD but they still have a sex. Does the school intend to use the term ‘assigned at birth’ in policy or teaching?

  7. I’m concerned that the guidance says teach ‘CIS’ which is a deeply offensive term to many people. Does the school intend to use the term ‘CIS’ in policy or teaching?
