Ribbons in the Wild

Saw my first suffragette ribbons with lovely card and slogan in the wild yesterday. In a NT property garden in the south east (won’t say which one as I don’t want those who monitor this board going to remove it).

Gave a lovely feeling of solidarity and reminded me I must prepare some ribbons to put in my bag as I’ve not done any yet.

I mentioned the one in Peebles on here a few months ago and hadn’t been back for a while but noticed today it wasn’t there anymore 😞

Must do some ribboning myself I think!

Itsinthetreesitscoming · 18/08/2021 19:26

Invisible, that's great to hear. A while ago, I saw a slate hanging from a railing near there with #womenwontwheesht on it - whoever it is out there, THANK YOU!

InvisibleDragon · 18/08/2021 18:31

"Women won't wheesht" was chalked in several places along the Union canal today.

First time I've seen anything IRL and was surprised how happy it made me feel. Might have to get some ribbons of my own ...

SnoopyLights · 16/08/2021 13:23

Well, I've just ordered some luggage labels, three sets of Jute twine (purple, white, and green - I'll tie each tag with a strand of each) and a customised rubber stamp which says #NoThankYou, so I can start ribboning with the tags and hopefully spread some awareness. I'm thinking of either writing a bit of information on the tags or having a sticker on the unstamped side.

The stamp has cost less than £10 to have custom made, and if it turns out to be a good one I think I'll order a couple more with other slogans on them.

I saw a wonderful ribbon too yesterday! It said TWAW 🥰 It was gorgeous
Things that didn't happen.

Yes stickering can be really subtle - if you have the sticker in the palm of you hand all anyone would see is you putting your hand on something Grin

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 14/08/2021 23:14

I haven’t done any ribbons but I’ve been stickering for years without any repercussions. The best way to do it is to look like a boring middle aged woman.

Mallowmazing · 14/08/2021 23:11

Is it illegal to put up stickers or ribbons? I’d like to do something to show my support, but I don’t want to get in trouble.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 14/08/2021 23:05

Purple white and green then

nancybotwinbloom · 14/08/2021 23:00

@Thelnebriati a stand for women's rights

nancybotwinbloom · 14/08/2021 22:58

I shall order some ribbon todayGrin

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 14/08/2021 21:16

@nancybotwinbloom

What colour ribbons should I put up!
Suffragette colours are purple, green, and white.

A cardboard tag is always a good idea: #CourageCallsToCourage

Thelnebriati · 14/08/2021 21:05

What message do you want to make?

nancybotwinbloom · 14/08/2021 21:04

Thank you both ! Star

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 14/08/2021 20:29

@TrifleCat

Can you recommend some good places to buy stickers and ribbons please ?

Because of my employer I have been to scared to actually participate in stickering and ribboning but I have now reached peak “fuck it” , there are women all over the world who are right now fighting for their very lives, the least I can do is raise awareness of women’s rights.

My ribbon has been up for ages - I'm really pleased. A slate I did lasted several weeks before disappearing so hopefully a decent amount of people saw it.

Was the talking ribbon blue and pink? How very gender stereotyped of it.

SnoopyLights · 14/08/2021 19:20

I haven't seen any ribbons, or worked out a good way to tie them quickly.

I have been stickering though, and I'm reasonably pleased that they seem to mostly be where I put them.

There's one particular place where they seem to vanish as soon as I leave them, but whoever that is, they're missing loads of others very nearby and I know those others will have been seen by lots of people by now.

That's clever! I've never met a talking ribbon before.

What does this mean, and how is it feminist?
ErrolTheDragon · 14/08/2021 18:41

The women's rights purple, white and green tricolour, obviously.

ErrolTheDragon · 14/08/2021 18:40

I've seen a set twice in the same place (a pedestrian traffic island in a NW town) - quite a long time apart. And another set in some gardens further NW.
