I found this thread on twitter utterly astonishing. I always thought when people talked about 'snowflakes' they were being a little bit unkind. But I guess I was wrong? twitter.com/BrydieLK/status/1423639857461612548

I think it’s meant to indicate sensitivity and empathy. She cares so so very much about the oppressed that she weeps about them.

Ah, of course. How fucking patronising, though. There's a kind of simultaneous self-viictimisation and self-aggrandisement in this behaviour which is really quite repulsive.

A previous thread on this was deleted as 'not in the spirit' - I would, however, be interested if anybody had a recent update on the involvement of the British Transport Police.

@beastlyslumber

I wonder why we no longer valorise qualities such as resilience. I would be honestly embarrassed to have such a reaction to someone's petition. Even if she did yell at me (I honestly doubt that she yelled and screamed, but I wasn't there, so maybe she did) surely the response is just 'No thank you' and walk away? Is it not humiliating to be so lacking in stature and resilience that something as minor as being asked to sign something you don't want to sign will cause a meltdown? Am I just old?
I think this is fascinating too. I think it’s meant to indicate sensitivity and empathy. She cares so so very much about the oppressed that she weeps about them.

I wouldn't join Twitter, it just sounds horrible, but I'm happy to be directed to any thread that's ripe for mocking.... :)

@MoreRainThanAnyYet I think it's Brydie who is a cis femme women

And like someone else said. A melt

Bryonyshcmyony · 09/08/2021 19:00

This most definitely didn't happen

MoreRainThanAnyYet · 09/08/2021 18:55

A cis, femme woman?

How did Brydie know?

Did Brydie recognize her sex and assume her/his/their gender?

KittenKong · 09/08/2021 18:52

Titiana McGrath?

Again you really can't use it as a proxy for any type of real life opinions of real people.

I think the problem is that twitter has become practically the whole of public discourse. It's where journalists source stories. It's modes of being are definitely not just confined to its own weird bubbles.

I'm not a twitter user but this thread was shared by several people who I know in real life. So I'd hesitate to say it's not reflective of real opinions, because I know they would stand by this and probably long for the day someone asks them to sign a petition so they can have a twitter meltdown too.

On the other hand, most people aren't on twitter. And I do think the vast majority of people my age and older don't think this way. I'm not so sure about younger people, though.

A cis, femme woman? What exactly does that mean? That she is straight and wears dresses sometimes?

Honestly, what a total melt.

GNCQ · 09/08/2021 18:50

Twitter is the fakest place on the internet!
I'm stealing that.
It's so true. And it's so obvious.

Unfortunately sadly it's also the radicalisation Portal for gender extremists.....

A story in two tweets

  1. I am fortunate enough to usually only encounter transphobes online but I just had a face to face experience that has shaken me. I was walking to the station in Stratford in East London when a very friendly, well dressed woman in her 30s approached to talk about “a petition”.

Follow-up tweet:

She wasn’t wearing anything specific- just jeans and a long sleeved tshirt- and the petition was one of these (though I didn’t see what it was called specifically). She was showing it to me on a tablet and I didn’t see a table/group nearby. t.co/cVwQhG1gxf

I will say nothing.

I wouldn't use twitter as any sort of proxy for opinions in real life. Twitter is literally militarized by foreign governments, special interest groups, other radicalized groups. There are hundreds of thousands of people who tweet/comment/like as their job working for these organizations/governments and there are thousands of developers who build AI bots professionals that simulate real people doing the same thing.

Twitter is the number 1 target... it's the fakest place on the internet.

Sure there might be some real content on there too but it's really difficult to determine what's fake and what's real... and even real content is heavily influenced by the fake trends that are created artificially.

Again you really can't use it as a proxy for any type of real life opinions of real people.

She was traumatised!

I think the response asking if she needed support was sarcastic?

I hope so anyway
