@Glinner sent this round today:

"(From a thread by @Forwomenscot) The CEO of Edinburgh Rape Crisis has said "Sexual violence happens to bigoted people too. But if you bring beliefs that are discriminatory, expect to be challenged on your prejudice. Reframe your trauma" Apparently, survivors are to be "educated" in this service."

The CEO is Mridul Wadhwa, a male person who does not have a GRC and who believes that rape victims orgasm.

The podcast twitter account is blocking everyone who says "WTF?" etc

NO woman should feel she has to be "re-educated" to get a place in a rape crisis/womans refuge. What a sick idea. And what the fuck - you have to be "the right kind of rape victim" - do you have to pass a test or something to gain a place. Its hard enough for women to access these places anyway, without making it some kind of requirement that they hold the correct ideology. Imagine if it was the case that to have a life saving operation in hospital, you had to mouth the correct platitudes. People like MW, just exert this kind of power because they can get away with it.

@Jorrris

Reframe your trauma? From the CEO of rape crises? They can go fuck themselves.
👆🏽This.

I’ve said it before on another thread (but can’t remember which). While this is wrong on many levels the one I have most problem with is that now only the “right” kind of rape victim can access the service. Someone suitably educated in modern sexual/gender identity and with the language to navigate it appropriately. So not elderly women who have no social media, not school girls with little world experience, not the vulnerable due to drugs or alcohol or homelessness, not people from conservative families … I could go on. Those people need “re-educated” first before they can talk about their trauma. Despite getting over the mat of the door being a massive issue in the first place.

MadameKali · 09/08/2021 17:14

Vile. Just fucking vile.

I don't understand why DFW & co can't see how horribly inappropriate the whole thing is.

Sacrificing vulnerable women to validate an identity. Makes me feel physically sick and so very upset and angry.

TalkingOutYerArse · 09/08/2021 17:12

Sickening

NecessaryScene · 09/08/2021 17:12

Who benefits, Wadhwa, who? You, or the service user? You, or the traumatised woman?

Anyone care to remind us what professional qualifications Wadhwa has? I seem to recall it was none, but maybe I'm wrong.

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 09/08/2021 17:11

@NewSchoolYear

There are all sorts of wrong about this. But can I just say this: some rape victims do orgasm. Whether it’s dissociation or a fear response it can happen and we shouldn’t be making rape victims who have experienced this feel ashamed.

I just felt it important to say this. My utter rage at the statement by Madhwa still stands. How fucking dare they lecture from a position they should not be occupying. That they believe they are in a position to ‘educate’ victims is appalling. That they are allowed and, in some quarters, encouraged to do so is fucking dystopian.

They don't orgasm in the way the word is used. It is not a peak of physical pleasure. if their bodies do what ever is needed to get through it is survivalist. I would never make a rape victim feel ashamed but someone implying that the victim enjoyed it is fucking perverse and nor worthy of anyone's time
JellySlice · 09/08/2021 17:10

"Reframe your trauma." ShockAngry

The only time it can ever be acceptable to guide a woman to reframe her trauma is if it would be therapeutically beneficial for her.

As ever when we come upon TRA demands, we need to ask: who benefits?

Who benefits, Wadhwa, who? You, or the service user? You, or the traumatised woman?

Reframe your trauma to validate trans ideologues. Fuck right off.

highame · 09/08/2021 17:09

Edinburgh Rape Crisis is not fit for purpose.

ArabellaScott · 09/08/2021 17:05

Trying to listen to the podcast now. It is making me feel ill.

Helleofabore · 09/08/2021 17:04

The complete ignorance that it is ALL post pubescent males who are capable of this violence is beyond concerning. There are NO sacred groups in this regards. None.

This agenda that transwomen are somehow not capable or just as high a risk is dangerous.

We only have to look at Vancouver Rape Relief, pursued through the courts of Canada for 12 years for being the only rape refuge in Vancouver that wouldn't employ an MTF trans person as a rape counsellor, to see the parallels, and it is fairly clear to me why many MTF trans activists want to insert themselves into this sector, and it isn't because they care about women.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 09/08/2021 17:00

Final straw for me. Unsubscribing. Doesnt want to make trans people feel unsafe but quite happy to do that to women. Why does dfw have such a blind spot for this? Yes theyve had trans guests - one was awful and dull and the other (Kate?) did raise some interesting points which certainly made me consider points I hadnt before.

cariadlet · 09/08/2021 16:58

I tweeted the Guilty Feminist about this. Had a few likes for my tweet but also this reply from a transwoman:

"Yes, reframe your trauma. lol ts not trans women harming cis women, it’s cis men."

Lol! WTF? How can anyone have the audacity to write "lol" on a thread about sexual trauma?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 09/08/2021 16:57

Next time pronouns cause a hate crime incident I suggest they reframe their trauma.

Quite.

MoltenLasagne · 09/08/2021 16:54

Fucking hell. One would think being a CEO of a Rape Crisis centre would require a level of empathy with service users... apparently not.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 09/08/2021 16:43

Shonagh Dillon's PhD thesis (available for free download) casts some much-needed light on the interpretation of Stonewall's survey about women-only services (like RCS). It's a persuasive account for how we find ourselves in the current circumstances.

Title: #TERF/Bigot/Transphobe’ – ‘We found the witch, burn her!’ A contextual constructionist account of the silencing of feminist discourse on the proposed changes to the Gender Recognition Act 2004, and the policy capture of transgender ideology, focusing on the potential impacts and consequences for female-only spaces for victims of male violence.

FloralBunting · 09/08/2021 16:38

And it particularly hurt not to be able to use male pronouns in that post, because this is very socially male behaviour I am talking about.

Helleofabore · 09/08/2021 16:38

vile. just vile.

mollythemeerkat · 09/08/2021 16:37

I could see it going this way when MW first got appointed. Thought MW and supporters would see it as a way to push their revolting beliefs that women`s feelings dont matter and men should be parachuted into womens spaces. Depressing that its happened though.

I agree with this. I think the issue about Wadhwa's statements about female orgasm during rape (and god, I apologize for having to use these terms, I am finding them hard to write,let alone read) is not that MW says that it can happen, it is that a male person has lied to be involved in a service for women, and takes an innappropriately prurient interest in aspects of sexual assault and abuse which should be handled with the utmost sensitivity.

The fact that MW also thinks that certain rape victims should be castigated for wrong think is yet another marker as to why this person is beyond unsuitable for the role they have.
