@Glinner sent this round today:

"(From a thread by @Forwomenscot) The CEO of Edinburgh Rape Crisis has said "Sexual violence happens to bigoted people too. But if you bring beliefs that are discriminatory, expect to be challenged on your prejudice. Reframe your trauma" Apparently, survivors are to be "educated" in this service."

The CEO is Mridul Wadhwa, a male person who does not have a GRC and who believes that rape victims orgasm.

The podcast twitter account is blocking everyone who says "WTF?" etc

A CEO of a Rape Crisis Centre, victim-blaming.

'Reframe your trauma'.
'If you're raped it's your fault if you are a bigot'
'Rape victims orgasm'.

As a rape victim myself there are no three phrases more calculated to raise the red mist than these. This 'CEO' has clearly been studying this subject matter very closely as this individual knows exactly which buttons to press.

The thing about the orgasm is the worst form of victim blaming that's left even me open-mouthed, and I've been listening to the vile commentary levelled by TRAs at rape victims for a long time. It's also going into unnecessary and extremely personal detail - sounding suspiciously like, dare I say it, a particularly nasty brand of fetishism. These men override our consent, they take what they want when we have said 'no', then, when our bodies respond the way they are designed to respond, they declare it somehow revokes the non-consensual element of rape and makes the attack our fault.

'CEO' makes me sick. It must be part of the power trip, that they actively make a beeline for such women. It's not accidental. How in the hell has this individual, who secured the post under false pretences in the first place, allowed to remain in it, particularly when that individual trots out hateful sentiments like these?

They are fucking laughing at us.

@FindTheTruth

the more disturbing bits of this individuals historical comments will probably get deleted if I post here.
Can you send me them please?
AtlasNeverShrugged · 09/08/2021 18:41

You couldn't make it up. Guilty feminist indeed!

CharlieParley · 09/08/2021 18:38

To anyone who has ever had rape crisis counselling, Wadhwa's comments betray a profound ignorance not only of what survivors need but also what trauma-informed service means.

And such a person has been entrusted with running Edinburgh Rape Crisis.

I take it to mean that if a woman is raped, they have to accept help from a male identifying as a woman if they want help, if that scares the shit out of them and they ask for a female only group/ female staff then their re education has to begin to right the wrong think.

A woman who has been targeted because of her biology is forced to accept that her biology is irrelevant to her sex if she wants to seek recovery?

And this is the official stance of a rape crisis centre? Not some some porn genre?

It's just about the sickest thing I've ever heard. Unless you add other people eagerly supporting it under the banner of 'inclusion'.

FindTheTruth · 09/08/2021 18:34

I keep seeing comments along the lines of 'Men rape, not transwomen' by women who haven't bothered to check the fact that the pattern of criminality for males is the same regardless of how they identify 🤷‍♀️and ignore that a rape victim does not want to be in the presence of a male as she gets photographed naked, her injuries documented, puts her clothing in a forensic bag and stays in the rape crisis centre hypersensitive wth PTSD.

WarriorN · 09/08/2021 18:31

I've been spitting feathers about this, the absolute gall of this person.

By contrast, seven, who is mentioned by McAlpine in the tweet, uses male toilets despite being a fully transitioned transexual (seven's own term), and despite receiving actual homophobia and transphobia there. Seven respects women and their boundaries.

@Datun

what does it actually mean?

Is it that if a woman is raped by a male, they have to be forced to accept the lie that the person is female if they say so?? In a rape crisis centre?

Or is it not about a crime itself, but the acceptance of the ideology generally?

But actually you're probably right that if they are raped by a transwoman, then they would have to refer to them as a woman.

FindTheTruth · 09/08/2021 18:22

also agree with PP about complaining to the board who hired MW

FindTheTruth · 09/08/2021 18:22

@Theeyeballsinthesky

I wonder if it’s possible to formally complain to the charity about what MW has said. There must be a complaints policy
agree with this. Charity and charity commision also?

They are so close to getting it...

"A lot of people have come to Twitter to say she is not biologically a woman. I’ve talked about my adoption publicly. The truth is - biologically - I am not my mother’s daughter. But I am though. I mean - if she needs a kidney, I’m no help. Biology will out. 5/10"

Anotheruser02 · 09/08/2021 18:18

Rape trauma syndrome
MW needs an education, androphobia (fear of men), hyper-vigilance and paranoid feelings about strangers are all symptoms of rape trauma syndrome.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 09/08/2021 18:16

Or is it not about a crime itself, but the acceptance of the ideology generally?

Some people get irritated enough that when they see a GP they have to pass through a bunch of of unrelated questions and activities before they get to what they actually want to discuss.

I'm puzzled as to how this shibboleth would be introduced without disrespecting the client's needs or agenda for discussion.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 09/08/2021 18:12

Do the Guilty Feminists not have anyone in their circles who this may affect?

Very privileged if so.

It's incredibly difficult to not to just post a massive string of expletives. That MW thinks a woman arriving at a rape crisis centre needs re-education is astonishing. It's the sort of mindset that would come from Victorian patriarchs.

There does seem to be a ghoulish delight in the details of women's trauma and an absorbing interest in, erm, "helping" them back on the right track.

Funny how many of those old Victorian gents turned out to be not so charitable as they made out.

It's not usual for rape crisis to run shelters, they'd normally run a helpline and provide counselling and therapeutic groups.

The reframe your trauma thing is hideous and shows a complete and negligent understanding of the effects of trauma on the body.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 09/08/2021 17:39

@JellySlice

"Reframe your trauma." ShockAngry

The only time it can ever be acceptable to guide a woman to reframe her trauma is if it would be therapeutically beneficial for her.

As ever when we come upon TRA demands, we need to ask: who benefits?

Who benefits, Wadhwa, who? You, or the service user? You, or the traumatised woman?

Reframe your trauma to validate trans ideologues. Fuck right off.

Exactly. I've worked in a rape crisis centre & I was thinking that the only reframing necessary or acceptable is along the lines of, "No, you're not going mad," or ,"You're not to blame".

The focus should always be on the woman & what she needs.

toomanytrees · 09/08/2021 17:36

Maybe it is time to shine sunlight on the governance and governors/directors/board members of these organizations. These people hired the CEO.

I did some googling of the ERC. I am not convinced they do very much, despite the large budget, salaried employees and (rather vague) descriptions of their activities. They don't even seem to run shelters.

PlayYouLikeAShark · 09/08/2021 17:33

I'll tell you what/who isn't 'discerning'. The migrant women with no recourse to public funds who were the group targeted by MW when MW knowingly applied for a female specific role in the women's aid org & failed to declare that MW was male. And when the obvious was questioned, MW didn't have the decency to walk away & that org was either terrified to take action or decided that it didn't matter that the women imposed with MW's involvement had no say. Those women are/were about as vulnerable & desperate as it's possible to be (often with difficult immigration status & terrified that seeking help could see them deported & with no safety net from state support). They are/were in no position to be 'discerning' over who they turned to when they needed help to escape abusive situations they found themselves in.

MW is lauded often in dispatches for MW's work for this particularly vulnerable group of women, who are absolutely desperate, and who have no other options for help to escape abuse. Think about that. MW chose to work with women who couldn't say no and who were uniquely vulnerable to MW's imposed presence within what should be a female only space/service.

MW talking about how sexual violence isn't 'discerning' is rich coming from an individual who was very discerning which route was best to infiltrate a female only org supporting the most vulnerable women & children fleeing male abuse & violence.

The red flags here go back a long, long way.

BettyBakesBuns · 09/08/2021 17:25

Has this person forgotten that GC views are now legally recognised and protected? Denying rape and abuse victims help on the basis that they hold GC views is surely illegal?
