Really looking forward to Robert Webb on Strictly.
Unfortunately TRAs are already frothing and apparently writing to the bbc,

Really looking forward to seeing him on Strictly -- partly because of his stunningly ace (and disturbingly sexy) Comic Relief dance routine, and partly becaue he does seem to be a solid and decent man with plenty of wise words to speak.

It's funny that in Peep Show he was the massively immature and shallow character alongside David Mitchell's more grown-up and intelligent character. In real life he seemed to leap much more readily into the wisdom of middle age than Panel Show Dave (although Panel Show Dave is lovely in his way too).

TheExtraGuineaPig · 07/08/2021 14:18

Oh I love him... so happy he's on. I've read through the so called "controversy" and it's just absurd, not least when it's someone who's done so much for non conforming boys/ men. Hopefully some more sunlight to show up the ridiculousness.

IvyTwines2 · 07/08/2021 14:11

My general assumption is that celebrities who are "very quiet" on the issue are those who are what we now call 'GC' but used to simply call realists, but don't want to deal with a pile-on, death and rape threats if female, or who have friends with trans-identified children or very TRA children themselves who they don't want to alienate or upset, and are hoping this all blows over. The blue tickers who have bought into the ideology are not exactly backward in coming forward about it.

beastlyslumber · 07/08/2021 13:58

Wow, he is a really good dancer! I'm excited to watch this now and I hope it makes all the TRAs very unhappy when he wins the nation's hearts by being a lovely and talented dancer.

cariadlet · 07/08/2021 13:20

@McPancreas Thanks for the link.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 07/08/2021 13:00

Interesting watching how the trans mob winds themselves up as they decide who to go for next.

More sunlight!

Let's see which celebs support him, presumably so they can go after them as well.

Insane

You can hear it here, the inquisition starts about 9 minutes from the end.

Who cares what they think?

cariadlet · 07/08/2021 12:32

Thanks @NecessaryScene

SimonedeBeauvoirscat · 07/08/2021 12:28

Gosh I had no idea he’d been so ill. That’s rather sad. Glad he seems to be on the up now. He seems like a decent fella.

AlexaShutUp · 07/08/2021 12:16

He dated a good friend of mine many years ago. Really nice chap. I might just have to watch Strictly this time round, despite not usually being a fan.

DancesWithTortoises · 07/08/2021 12:16

I can't stand SCD but I'll vote for him every week if it's going to piss off the TRAs. Many times.

OldTurtleNewShell · 07/08/2021 12:14
He is a wonderful dancer, I really look forward to seeing him compete. Underneath the (very successful) attempt to be funny in this clip is huge natural ability
Wow. He is good. He'll definitely be worth a watch.
boatyardblues · 07/08/2021 12:03

Thanks for the Comic Relief video, which made me laugh a lot. I will watch Strictly this year for Robert after several years’ break.

Fleek · 07/08/2021 12:02

@SprayedWithDettol

I’ve haven’t ever watched strictly, but I think based on this - he is a dead very to win.

🤞

That's proper Morecambe and Wise level comedy for me. Thank you for reminding me of it, I'm having a really bad time of it at the moment and that has given me such a laugh.
PankhurstConnection · 07/08/2021 11:55

This is the only time I've been tempted to watch 'Strictly'.

NecessaryScene · 07/08/2021 11:54

With some Jesse Thorn, who I don't know.

Discussed from page 2 of this thread.

Owen Jones took the opportunity to have a pop at him.

Ooo. V. excited about this. Went off Strictly in the past couple of years, but Webb would definitely tempt me back. And his general decency as a man is a bonus.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 07/08/2021 11:48

He's got my vote 🕺💃

cariadlet · 07/08/2021 11:43

@McPancreas which podcast was that?

MorrisZapp · 07/08/2021 11:25

He's a proper dancer and a proper diva. Expect fireworks! He's cheerfully gender non conforming so of course they hate him. Hope he bloody wins.

Notagain20 · 07/08/2021 11:25

I absolutely loved his memoir, I learned such a lot from it about masculinity and he's a fabulous writer. And what a mover! And the balls to speak up. What a guy.

SiobhanSharpe · 07/08/2021 11:21

I like Robert Webb a lot -- actor, comedian, author and dancer.
(And who can forget his role, totally naked, with Olivia Coleman in "Confetti". That took some, er, chops. 😊)
I wish him all the very best in Strictly.

LemonViolet · 07/08/2021 11:19

His flash dance was amazeballs!!! He’ll be great on strictly.

There’s plenty of people whose philosophy or politics I don’t agree with and I don’t campaign for them to not be on telly. Ridiculousness!
