This leading Canadian think tank has reported today. I haven't read it as it's just been published, but thought I would share anyway. The opening para reads:

OTTAWA, ON (August 4, 2021): New polling conducted on behalf of the Macdonald-Laurier Institute reveals significant findings regarding Canadians’ views on gender identity and women’s sport. By wide margins, Canadians support traditional sex-based categories for competitive sport, and they believe that allowing transgender athletes who were born male but who identify as women to compete in women’s competitive events is “unfair.”

I'm not really surprised that ordinary people know what a woman is. The gender identity stuff is astroturfed, just like it is here. That's one of the reasons for #NoDebate and so-called 'hate speech' laws. Ordinary people can't be allowed to express these views

MotionActivatedDog · 04/08/2021 19:51

Even in your OP it confirms they are talking about male transgender athletes and not all transgender athletes.

Read my opening post. I have not read the report. It has just been published. I posted it for the interest of people who read this board, not to endorse its accuracy. I used the think tank's own title. I don't know if they are correct or if you are correct, because I haven't read it.

I’m not giving anyone a hard time. I’m pointing out that the thread title is incorrect. This language matters. Transgender does not just mean transwoman.

OP is basically sharing info and using words used by the source. No need for hard time.

I couldn't help myself once, at a child's birthday party, the dad of one of my child's friends is a Canadian who works at the BBC. The temptation was too hard to resist so I (lightly and within context about general talk about stuff) broached the subject of Canadian cyclist RMcK.

His reply was typically woke. "Oh it's oh so veh complicated..,. It depends.... You need to think about the vulnerable minority" my faith in Canadian BBC workers went out the window.

Glad to hear the rest of Canada are joining the dots.

MotionActivatedDog · 04/08/2021 19:44

I mean, you do realise it is inaccurate?

MotionActivatedDog · 04/08/2021 19:43

I’m letting you know, because you posted it, in your thread title. Confused

TedImgoingmad · 04/08/2021 19:41

@MotionActivatedDog

It’s still incorrect. Confused
I suggest you let the MLI know, then.

Wow, I wonder if they will do similar regarding the mixed prisons too?

MotionActivatedDog · 04/08/2021 19:26

It’s still incorrect. Confused

TedImgoingmad · 04/08/2021 19:22

I've used the title in the attached link to the MLI's report. Those are the MLI's chosen words.

Your title is incorrect OP. It’s not transgender athletes in women’s sports being called unfair- transmen are perfectly acceptable in women’s sports- it’s transwomen in women’s sports that are considered unfair.

TedImgoingmad · 04/08/2021 19:19

Perhaps it's a bit like the UK. Nobody outside the liberal policy makers and policy influencers like Stonewall believe this crap.

Crikey. Me, too. Surprised, I mean. One would have thought your average Canadian was right behind all the woo.

SirSamuelVimes · 04/08/2021 19:15

Considering its Canada, land of gender woo, I'm quite surprised by the margin.

TedImgoingmad · 04/08/2021 19:10

The institute is holding a webinar 4pm ET today do discuss the poll (think that's around 10pm GMT):
