and if you are sufficiently enraged:

I’m still awaiting the response to my complaint.

My complaint being that they quoted Fallon Fox who stated there was no advantage that those who have been through male puberty have any sporting advantage.

That is incorrect.

Coyoacan · 06/08/2021 19:18

Such a well written piece. Kudos to the Critic

Jaysmith71 · 06/08/2021 17:58

Just noticed:

The model complaint calls the article a "puff-piece," and the response denies it was a "profile piece"

LastSummerHere · 06/08/2021 17:53

I want to point out that Prof. Alice Roberts is a different person than Prof. Alice Sullivan.

oldwomanwhoruns · 06/08/2021 16:28

I will be re-complaining. Glinner has some hints Smile

Jaysmith71 · 06/08/2021 15:20

....and Clownfish.

RoyalCorgi · 06/08/2021 15:15

@Jaysmith71

This is also not available:

www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b04knbny

In which Prof Alice argues that the idea of a gendered brain is guff.

Professor Alice is now fully on board the trans train to Wokeville.

Any attempts to politely question her about how she reconciles this with Darwinism, humanism or the lack of gendered brains is generally met with a block and a "woe is me, the feminists are being mean to me".

"The BBC has looked carefully at The BBC and has concluded that the BBC did nothing wrong."

It has a very familiar ring to it.

notagermannoun · 06/08/2021 14:10

@Clymene

That isa great article. I didn't know they'd buried the Navratilova documentary.

It's all so unbelievably sinister. I will be submitting (another) complaint

Christ. Neither did I.

I didn't watch Martina's programme when it was screened, but I have looked for it in vain on the iplayer and YouTube since. Does anyone have a link to it, anywhere?

Sort of censorship that would have done the Eastern Bloc proud.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 06/08/2021 13:56

I've had an identical response. Expected nothing more, but still infuriating.

oldwomanwhoruns · 06/08/2021 13:41

I just rec'd (below) what looks like a standard reply to my complaint. I say standard, because it did not address my specific complaints, especially about the threatening of dissenters (ie women) on twitter.
And how dare they describe the use of the word 'cis' as 'the language used ... by relevant groups and authorities'. By the TRAs, yes. Are they the only relevant people? We do NOT use it here.

Thank you for contacting us about an article on the BBC Sport website.

This article – while not a profile piece - contains some key details about Laurel Hubbard’s sporting journey to the Olympics and why her appearance at the Games has caused so much controversy. It explains how she lived as a man for 33 years before returning to sporting competition as a transgender woman in 2017 and looks at the criteria for the Tokyo Olympics which meant that she was able to compete in the women’s weightlifting category. This aspect and the debate around it was the main focus of the piece. The BBC does not, and did not in this article, take an editorial position on Hubbard’s inclusion in this year’s Olympic Games.

The article sets out the policy employed by the International Olympic Committee and adopted by the International Weightlifting Federation which allowed for Laurel Hubbard’s inclusion. It details the previous changes to the policy and the likelihood that the policy will change again in the future. It also sets out some of the latest scientific research into gender transitioning and sporting performance, both from scientists who argue that transwomen have an unfair physical advantage, especially in a sport such as weightlifting, and those that argue the science is not yet clear on the issue when all the factors related to transitioning are taken into consideration.

We included opinions from those in support and those against Hubbard’s inclusion, including Save Women’s Sport Australia, as well as other current weightlifters.

We maintain that this piece appropriately reflected all sides of what is a divisive and complicated subject in a way that was accessible for a large, mainstream audience, and that the language used helps make the many different aspects clear to readers and reflects that used in current conversations on the topic of trans inclusion in sports used by relevant groups and authorities.

Thank you once again for getting in touch and we have shared your concerns with our BBC Sport team.

I think the BBC tried to do some mitigating today... Michael Jordan wisely and calmly explaining to the fabulous Claire Balding about DSDs and some of the implications thereof...

What are DSDs

Thanks for highlighting this. Well worth reading the other article by Madison Smith called Every Sport is Male Sport which has a depressing list of mediocre male athletes who have “transitioned” and found instant success in women sport. These people are cheats, just as much as if they were taking performance enhancing drugs . If fair play means nothing in sport anymore then there’s not much point is there.

If only Lance Armstrong had sussed out transitioning, how different his legacy would have been.

NotNowFGS · 04/08/2021 19:01

I was on Facebook at lunchtime today, very briefly. Did I see BBC Sport double down and post the same article and the same warning to GC viewers? Just looked again and can't find it now. Did anyone else see this?

Freespeecher · 04/08/2021 17:16

Does any expression of doubt or uncertainty on contentious topics now count as hate?

They seem to promise that sex discrimination is a real issue, mind. Wonder if that works in practice.

OwningAllMyMistakes · 03/08/2021 23:15

@TooWicked

Thanks for the links, I will certainly do this when I finish work.

Also, how do you cancel your license fee and what does that look like in reality - would the BBC TV channels stop getting transmitted to my home, or do I just have to try and avoid accidentally putting a BBC channel on?

I’d really rather not give them another penny of my money.

Then I suggest you take your aerial down or leave it up and cancel your license fee find a big pillow and bury your head under it 😂. for your question has to be one of the most ridiculous things I’ve read today just because you disagree with something everyone throws the toys out and becomes petulant over the license fee like it’s holding the bbc to ransom. I complain all the time about the bias in reporting men’s cycling over women’s but I don’t revert to a forum & I’ll take my license fee away in a childish act.😩
PamDenick · 03/08/2021 22:04

Michael JOHNSON!! Apologies

Jaysmith71 · 03/08/2021 17:43

"The TV does not need to be disconnected from the aerial socket, because you can listen to the radio licence free."

It's academic because the inspectors arent't allowed in without your consent and the "TV Detector Vans" of old were an elaborate hoax inspired by Thunderbirds "Automatic Camera Detector."

But the law is clear: If you TV is installed and capable of receiving TV Broadcasts, you need a licence even if you never switch it on. It is the "Capability" that renders you licenceable.

Anotheruser02 · 03/08/2021 17:37

I would just love to know exactly how many people cancelled their TV licences yesterday.
