Will Hubbard make people think?

I'm not so sure. Certainly doesn't seem to be the case with DW or MIL. I knew DW was Be Kind, but didn't expect my MIL to support males in women's sports.

@BoreOfWhabylon

Just seen on Twitter that the clip has been viewed more than a million times and #NoThankYou is being tweeted in multiple languages Smile
It popped up in my mobile newsfeed highlights last night as something that had gone viral Smile
NiceGerbil · 05/08/2021 00:52

The no thank you is really clever.

Ambiguous meaning.

Reporter said would any of you like to comment.

The no thank you could be taken as a polite response to that request for comment.

Or it could be taken as a combined statement from the 3 medallists on the whole situation.

Brilliant.

You could argue that the no thank you was to Hubbard full stop.
To me it sounded way more pointed than a simple no comment

ShallWeStartTheMeeting · 04/08/2021 19:36

That 'no thank you' was very pointed and powerful.

Wow Rabbitwoman! What sport was it ? 3rd in your age group is impressive.*

Why thank you, I was very proud of myself and my achievement..... It was a form of kickboxing.

And doing such a full on contact sport I am very very aware of how much stronger men are than women. I train and spar with men - and boys - all the time. We also practise self defense techniques.

I think if EVERYONE did it they would be very frightened by the huge difference in strength between females and males - even young boys, not fully grown, are much stronger than I am.

But my pals all think I am some sort of Black Widow super hero because they watch marvel films where the tiny little lady in lycra beats up the bad guys without breaking a sweat.

Wow Rabbitwoman! What sport was it ? 3rd in your age group is impressive. I was listening to a runner who won her heat but was last or second last in the final. But as she said ' I've won a race at the Olympic Games , it's a great feeling '. As a non sporty type I think it's amazing to qualify for the games. Another reason it's so unfair on women who miss out because of the 🚆

rabbitwoman · 04/08/2021 09:38

Why can't I go to the Olympics to be myself?

I have competed at European level at an amateur sport - came third in my age catagory. But frankly, I have always felt like a kid. In my heart I am still 12.

So why can't I be my true self and compete with the children?

Mrsjamin · 04/08/2021 08:59

The "no thank you" comment - was she basically saying "no comment"?

Sophoclesthefox · 04/08/2021 08:51

Sorry, my manners!

No, thank you. To all of it. No, thank you Grin

Sophoclesthefox · 04/08/2021 08:50

@Mrsjamin

Fear or discomfort has led to people not supporting LH, apparently. People are just people, too. PROFOUND I tell you, profound.

Also, LH is speaking so carefully trying to make LH's voice not as deep.

Far be it from me to say anything about the sponsor logo on Hubbard’s shirt (on the left of the picture) Grin, not least because using that word in these parts gets you a strike…

But I think a lot of people will watching it.

The emotions I feel watching that aren’t fear or discomfort- it’s white hot rage at the wilful destruction of women’s sports and the displacement of talented women to make way for mediocre male bodies. I’m perfectly comfortable with those feelings.

littlebilliie · 04/08/2021 08:25

I want a
#nothankyou t shirt

NotBadConsidering · 04/08/2021 07:23

That video is brilliant! Screw you IWF man!

ScreamingMeMe Looks more and more like they see their job as telling the public what their opinion should be.
Yes.
Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 03/08/2021 19:24

@NiceGerbil

They went as far as they could without getting into huge trouble.

It was still v brave.

They must have discussed and agreed beforehand.

Definitely. That's what happens when women talk to each other - that's why they try to stop us Grin

This is not inclusion, this is displacement. Star

to rapturous applause (from the media at least).

Yes, it's quite clear that the media has failed to guage public opinion; and now, the opinion of the other competitors. Isn't that like, part of their job?

LastSummerHere · 03/08/2021 18:50

Perfection. More dignity in their fingernails than that Hubbard disgrace and the IOC put together.

littlbrowndog · 03/08/2021 18:43

No thank you

Freespeecher · 03/08/2021 18:36

Unfortunately I think LH played it very well. Turn up and compete to make a point, don't make the mistake of getting anywhere near the podium, make a heart sign on your way out to rapturous applause (from the media at least).

Find it hard to believe any athlete would willingly chuck the chance of a medal but maybe LH saw it as a 'greater good' thing.

ScreamingMeMe · 03/08/2021 18:27

@BlaydonRaces

2 minute clip of the medal winners press conference:

The contrast between the respect that Emily Campbell has for her training partner and fellow medallist Sarah Robles, and Robles' reply to the LH question, could not be more plain.

Well done all 3 for their composure (and for their brilliant performances!)

Fucking brilliant Grin
TheWeeDonkey · 03/08/2021 17:30

@BlaydonRaces

From that BBC clip: "She's had a huge impact on the sport"

No thank you!

👏👏👏
TobysGreatAunt · 03/08/2021 17:25

Loving that clip

NO THANK YOU !

Ghosttile · 03/08/2021 17:18

I think the mixed swimming relay is the best hope for getting through to people. The legs where you had women vs men.
