Excellent to see a poster so committed to boosting threads as Blue was yesterday.

ohfook · 09/08/2021 10:12

@BluebirdsSong

Laurel Hubbard failed right away. Her failure proved once and for all that the entire panic about "male advantage" and "males dominating sports" is completely unfounded.
Show me another injured 43 year old female weightlifter who manages to make it to the Olympics then come back and tell me LH had no advantage!
Artichokeleaves · 09/08/2021 09:59

There should be an inquiry by the OC on whether that event was intentionally thrown by Hubbard. Although fairness and sporting standards are something they've made clear is mere silly nit picking when it comes to males using women's sports.

AllWashedOut · 09/08/2021 09:53

LH was only present at the Olympics to create a new precedent. I wouldn't be surprised if she'd had a phone call before her event. If she'd won that might have set the agenda back again in the subsequent outcry. The fact she threw it meant a/ no negative publicity b/ door opens to other male-bodied competitors in female Olympic categories. Eyes now on Paris 2024.

GCAcademic · 08/08/2021 22:35

Bluebird has been banned for their rampant homophobia on other threads.

DdraigGoch · 08/08/2021 22:33

@BluebirdsSong

Did Laurel Hubbard "dominate the sport" or not?
Hubbard is 43 years old. In sporting terms, that's what you'd call "past it". Now that people like you are running around shouting "look, the thin end of the wedge is blunt, what were you worrying about?", the next competitor (representing one of those oh so fair nations like Russia) will be a strapping 21 year old.

"Trans women are dominating women's sports by throwing on purpose!!"

Do you even hear yourself.

Laurel Hubbard was 20 years older than the other competitors. Unfit and injured. That LH was able to get into the Olympic squad at all, which was otherwise composed of elite female athletes, shows how big male advantage is. The response of the other competitors at the press conference said it all - 'No thank you' to males in female sport. It's totally unfair and unnecessary - the male category is open to all and should be renamed 'open', with the female category being protected for females. Personal identity is entirely irrelevant in sport, it is only sex that matters.
BrozTito · 08/08/2021 15:27

JOBby is a complete wind vane.

334bu · 08/08/2021 15:25

the entire panic about "male advantage" and "males dominating sports" is completely unfounded.

So no evidence of this at the Olympics?Hmm No male athlete outran, outjumped, outthrew, outswam any female athlete?

Do you think Bluebird was watching another competition?

Bordois · 08/08/2021 15:22

So cheating is ok as long as you don't actually benefit from cheating 🙄

Good News:

BBC Reality Check have reported on false and misleading media coverage of some Olympic athletes.

Bad News:

Go on, guess.

Do you? Genuine question. I've read all your posts on the thread, thought about your position as best I can, thought about my position, and come to a reasonable, legally protected conclusion - one that has care for women's rights, sporting excellence and the Olympic spirit of sporting fairness at its core.

Your position seems to centre something else.

Lol! Surely you must realise how ridiculous you sound? Have you ever watched any sport?

Hubbard must have succeeded on the selection process to get a place on Olympic team.

Hubbard dominated over a woman who didn't get the opportunity to compete for her country.

I think it's a perfectly reasonable assumption to make Unless you have any other idea as to why LH was even there?

Oh yeah, old JOBy will be claiming he played devil's advocate to help the ladies make their arguments more robust.

CardinalLolzy · 08/08/2021 14:42

The thing with JOB is that you know in a couple of years' time he'll be saying he was on the women's side all along.

TalkingtoLangClegintheDark · 08/08/2021 14:33

Why did the two biologically female trans people at these Olympics choose to compete in the women’s category, despite not identifying as women?

How come it wasn’t too horrifically triggering for them?

If biologically female trans people can cope with competing in the women’s category, why can’t biologically male trans people cope with competing in the men’s category?

Oh, could it possibly be because they wouldn’t have stood a chance of being selected for the men’s category because they simply wouldn’t meet the standard? Surely the Olympics wouldn’t sanction something as brazen and contrary to the spirit of fairness in sport as that, surely not?

And yet…

TalkingtoLangClegintheDark · 08/08/2021 14:28

We’re there many injured 40+ men competing in the men’s events?

And, crucially, were there any injured 40+ biologically female people identifying as men competing in the men’s events?

No. There bloody well weren’t, of course. And there never will be.

And WE ALL KNOW why that is.

TalkingtoLangClegintheDark · 08/08/2021 14:25

I would say that LH did dominate the event in the way that even after Li WenWen, Emily Campbell and Sarah Robles were setting standards and breaking records all attention was on this unprepared, second rate, out of shape underachiver.

Yes. That interview - never mind your spectacular achievements, ladies, let’s focus on the male interloper here!

#NoThankYou.

TalkingtoLangClegintheDark · 08/08/2021 14:23

@FloralBunting

Laurel Hubbard failed cos they're shit.

The fact that they were at the olympics at all is the proof of advantage.

Exactly.

NZ could have had a chance at putting forward a real contender but they chose to bring the sport of weight lifting and the spirit of fairness at the Olympics into disrepute instead.

334bu · 08/08/2021 13:54

It is my belief that the Polish female European champion just didn't try hard enough to win this race at Doha.

No advantage 😂
