"The athletes CANT take action. They CANT speak out. They CANT refuse to compete .

They are BARRED a form doing any of these things by their contracts."

Not true. The Italian athletes have spoken out about it. I think it is time for the women to simply not compete, let the clock run down, just stand there and when the time limit has passed, just walk away and let the next athlete do exactly the same thing. If enough athletes do this then the organising bodies will be forced to do something.
Nobody in their right mind thinks this is logical or morally right.

It's doubtful that even the majority in this country believe it, let alone the majority in the world, still less "everyone".
Clearly, if everyone really did believe it, there wouldn't be so much debate about whether TW belong in women's competitions - yet he acknowledges that that controversy exists.

“There are no IOC rules or regulations around transgender participation. That depends on each international federation. So Laurel Hubbard is a woman, is competing under the rules of her federation and we have to pay tribute to her courage and tenacity in actually competing and qualifying for the Games.”

But the IWF voted to use the IOC guidelines?

It was agreed to follow the IOC Transgender Guidelines.

@highame

I think the loud noises in the US are influencing the IOC but guess what, we don't all agree, in fact I suspect the majority of us don't agree. It will now be up to big name athletes to take action.

They will pick their sports because under the radar is the way

Maybe everyone should just identify as a gold medallist and we can scrap the whole thing?

I've been wondering what Hubbard would feel if they turned up to the Womens final and all the other competitors were also mediocre middle aged males, unconvincingly identifying as women. From a sporting perspective this would probably be more competitive, but would it be what they actually want in terms of validation?

@Theeyeballsinthesky

Have to run but seriously it’s rage inducing and then some
It bloody well is, isn't it?! Angry
mollythemeerkat · 29/07/2021 11:27

Accurate headline. Mediocre man cheats in order to enter competition.

Glad to see Sean Ingle in the byline, but that gives us a very clear indication of what their expected announcement about this will be after the Olympics.

And while Budgett appeared to accept that Hubbard had an advantage from going through male puberty, he also stressed that inclusivity was an important factor too.

“There are lots of aspects of physiology and anatomy, and the mental side, that contribute to an elite performance, and it’s very difficult to say, ‘yes, she has an advantage because she went through male puberty,’ when there’s so many other factors to take into account,” he said.

“It’s not simple. I think each sport has to make their own assessment depending on the physiology of that sport, so that they can ensure that there is fair competition, but also the inclusion of everyone – whether they’re male or female – so they are able to take part in the sport they love.”

and then

“There is a lot of disagreement across the whole world of sport and beyond on this issue of eligibility,” admitted Budgett. “Everyone agrees transgender women are women. But it’s a matter of eligibility for sport, and particular events, and it really has to be very sport-specific.

^“One of the reasons there is no new framework published yet is not just because of the difficulty in coming to any consensus,” he added. “It’s because it would have been inappropriate to come out with new guidelines just before the Olympics. There will be a new framework to help individual sports, and we’re working very closely with them, but it’s not published yet.”*

Yeah, right. We can see what is coming. They are going to allow this farce to continue because of 'feelz'. They have just said, 'we can see the science that is now proven (as opposed to the supposed scientific consensus in 2015!), but we are going for what makes the males feel good. Shut up you women who object, you don't count!'.

InspiralCoalescenceRingdown · 29/07/2021 11:23

Also, Richard Budgett, transwomen are men.

DillonPanthersTexas · 29/07/2021 11:22

I hope Hubbard absolutely smashes it out the park, wins by a huge margin, just to show the unfairness of it all.

InspiralCoalescenceRingdown · 29/07/2021 11:21

IOC praising a cheat.

TheSlayer · 29/07/2021 11:19

Everyone agrees transgender women are women.

No they don't.

Well done for using the loophole we created specifically for cheats. Slow handclap.

I mean, I don't even know what outcome of this could be good for women.

If Hubbard wins then they've stolen a medal from a woman.

If Hubbard loses then they'll crow no advantage. Even though he's twice the age of the other competitors.

Nobody wins.
Cheat.
