Thought it deserved a thread of its own on this day of the shopping trip to Glasgow.
JK Rowling has just tweeted it too in response to Joanna Cherry. How I love all these strong, brave women.

We had a fantastic time. Couldn't make it on to the beer garden but it was wonderful just to come and hear everyone speak.

Congrats to all involved in such a great turnout. 💜🤍💚

3 real life TRAs? How many twitter TRAs is that?

ScreamingMeMe · 20/07/2021 18:02

@BlackForestCake

Breaking news, trans activists have mustered a counter-demo with three people on it.

That's after making out earlier that 250 people on a weekday during a heatwave was a poor turnout.

Bless.

I always thought this was linked to 'it wont wash' which means it isn't accepted. I think they're linked but women wont wheesht has more punch

@Melroses

Glorious day for a trip around the shops, and to spend a little time relaxing in the park.

My Grandma in Northumberland used to use "Wheesht" ❤

Reminds me of the old folk song about the Lambton Worm

Whisht! Lads, haad yor gobs,
An Aa'll tell ye's aall an aaful story
Whisht! Lads, haad yor gobs,
An' Aa'll tell ye 'boot the worm.

@ArtemesiaK

Can anyone thing of a punchy slogan like that for us in England? :) Wishing you all the best...
Just use WWW. Women all over the world have adopted it already.
terryleather · 20/07/2021 16:53

Fabulous event with great lineup of speakers...got a bit fan girl at so many amazing women...sadly I had to miss the pub along with the chance of meeting and chatting to other "won't wheesters" - hope everyone who went had a fantastic time.

NonnyMouse1337 · 20/07/2021 16:44

I'm such a lightweight - feeling tipsy already. Grin

Good turnout! It's been great to be able to gather around in public again.

Leafstamp · 20/07/2021 15:53

It is such a joy looking through this hashtag on Twitter, harsh an environment it can be sometimes. Loads of amazing pictures and comments of women (and some men) coming together. Love it.

@Dotoallasyouwouldbedoneby

'Women Won't Shush' is the perfect translation I think.
Yes!
NothingTraLaLa · 20/07/2021 15:47

How about “Don’t shush me ‘cause I’m close to the edge”.

Dotoallasyouwouldbedoneby · 20/07/2021 15:28

@BunnyBerries

Northern Ireland also uses Wheesht. Smile I'd love more people in England to use it!
People hear in Cork say 'Whisht!' I always thought it was a corruption of Éist / Aysht meaning Listen! As in shut up and listen. But maybe it's just a sound like Shush? Maybe Women Won't Shush ! would work for England...

Masdintle · 20/07/2021 14:31

Can't we English just adopt Wheesht? It's such a fab word

Londono · 20/07/2021 14:26

What does it stand for?

Fallingirl · 20/07/2021 14:23

That’s an impressive turnout for something that didn’t even go ahead today!

somethinginoffensive · 20/07/2021 13:59

Great turnout!
