I'm glad she's said this. It's despicable that TRA's subjected children to this in the first instance but even more so that they double down to blame the woman they targeted.

They need to learn to read. She said 'trans activists'. Not trans people. Idiots.

The only people that have cast trans activists as a threat to women are the trans activists that have threatened to rape, kill, punch, shoot, dismember, curb stomp, bomb, set fire to, and run over women.

The world is waking up and seeing these activists for what they are-terrorists who are doing absolutely nothing to help trans people.

Twitter needs to be much better regulated. It causes harm

IvyTwines2 · 20/07/2021 10:30

'JK Rowling' is currently trending on Twitter, and when you click on her name in the trends sidebar the top 5 tweets that come up are all hostile tweets (Jeff Brutlag, Sooz Kempner, Mark Grimshaw, Fox Fisher, Nicola Spurling). This doesn't seem to be based on popularity or timing: Rowling's own series of tweets with thousands of likes are not showing anywhere near the top of the 'Top Tweets'. If you manually type her name into the search bar and click 'top' you get a more varied selection of tweets, mostly positive. I have noticed this pattern over and over again with Twitter: the 'Top Tweets' it directs you to are hostile to women, and especially to JKR, and they're not based on likes or timing, but rather seem to be positioned because that's how the powers-that-be on Twitter want to shape your thinking.

Waitwhat23 · 20/07/2021 10:21

@ScreamingMeMe I noticed that too. A poster tried to get a TRA to expand a bit more as to how biological reality is harmful and just kept getting told that it erases the existence of transpeople. How? No-one seems able to answer. And as we keep saying, what the hell does trans refer to if there is no such thing as two sexes?

FloralBunting · 20/07/2021 10:18

Mermaids twitter being run by Violet Bott I see. "Dispicable"?

FloralBunting · 20/07/2021 10:16

I still can't get over that letter from a 'concerned lesbian'. A boy who likes pink might be a girl, and expanding the definition of lesbian to include people with dicks doesn't affect lesbians negatively. Jesus. Where do you even start with the tangle of stupidity there?

On the day this happens. Aisling Bee retweets a letter from someone who says that JKR should ask her husband before expressing an opinion.

Lots of people saying that believing that biology is real and matters is "harmful", but unable to explain what the harm actually is.

@Helleofabore

And I cannot believe that activists are posting that she staged this.

‘to play victim which is a typical t*ef ploy’Hmm

Nice bit of reverse there….

To deny and DARVO are typical TRA ploys. Desperate ones at that.
OvaHere · 20/07/2021 09:51

I'm glad to see JK is getting lots of support. Great that Joanna Cherry is offering support and showing that differing opinions on one issue does not mean writing off a friendship.

Have you been saying the quiet bits out loud again Tesla? Tut!

That was from last year, but yes, the point still stands.

The hoax thing does rather sound like something out of Donald Tr#mp's playbook.
Given that we've all just lived through that , it's rather pathetic to think that we would tolerate it just because you are tilting your head.

I read recently that a nurse in British Columbia, Canada, is being investigated by their nursing council because she was one of two people who paid for a billboard stating "I [heart] J K Rowling" as it has been deemed as being offensive to gender diverse people.

Datun · 20/07/2021 09:31

This is an insightful comment from the incredible Josephine March under the Times article.

These sorts of threats are frequent and extreme. If you google: 'JK Rowling and the transactivists, a story in tweets', you can see thousands of them.
Google terfisaslur for threats made to other people. Those making them are sometimes photographed holding weapons, sometimes in women's and girls' toilets. These sorts of threats have never been acknowledged, let alone condemned by the lobby groups purporting to speak for trans-identifying people. I hope that this post stands, or we will know that some people do not wish the truth to be told. This is not about one women - it's about a woman who stood up, knowing this would come her way, because she wanted to give a voice to other women to whom this is happening. It is meant to serve as a warning to every woman who speaks out, meant to silence us. Women, who unlike her can lose our jobs. This is misogyny, using Trans rights as its shield.

We all know that these threats aren't just a disgusting threat to the individual, they are also intended as a shot across the bows of women in general. See what happens, bitches? Now shut up.

Which is why I'm so grateful to powerful women such as JKR, and furious ones like Francis Barber. Courageously taking the flak to amplify the issue and help other women find their voice.
