This from FPFW site.

This MSc student is looking at public attitudes to transgender prisoners. It takes about 10 minutes to complete and could be an important measure of public opinion. Please take a moment to fill in.

I think this is bona fide. It's on FPFW site so nothing to suggest otherwise

Interesting - in the one I got he was accused of assault not sexual assault.

Megasausagehead · 16/07/2021 11:38

Because women hate men apparently.

Even when entirely innocent. So let's use some mediocre example to show women for what they truly are.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/07/2021 11:37

I got that one too which is what my earlier comment about false accusations was about.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/07/2021 11:36

They are the narrator, they could have stated that he raped someone. Why introduce doubt into it? The same principle should hold in either case.

Megasausagehead · 16/07/2021 11:36

Robin here too

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/07/2021 11:35

I winced at the word "girly". Come on.

FlyPassed · 16/07/2021 11:32

That's the one i got @oldcrone

Had to read it a couple of times and it still didn't really make sense!

OldCrone · 16/07/2021 11:29

From the debrief sheet it looks like the survey is presenting one of many scenarios to anyone taking it, so some posters may see something different to others.

This is the one I got. Did anyone get anything different?

Robin, 27, was born as a male into a family with traditional values. Around puberty Robin noticed that he was not a ‘typical boy’ as he became attracted to make-up, clothes and other ‘girly’ things; this caused serious arguments with his parents. Robin had to move out of the family home and found a flat share; he also started taking female hormones. Recently, at a house party, Robin got involved in an argument with a female flatmate and was later accused of a sexual assault. Robin is now awaiting the sentence.

It says he was accused and is awaiting sentence, so presumably was found guilty or pleaded guilty and convicted. But it doesn't say that.

FlyPassed · 16/07/2021 11:28

The scenario i got talked about him being "accused" but also "awaiting sentencing" so i answered the rest on the basis that he was found guilty

My opinion of Goldsmiths was already low but this survey plunged it into the depths of incredulity. I completely concur regarding the poor research/survey design and use of language/spelling etc. It almost seems like they are trying to catch out participants rather than collect data objectively.

Megasausagehead · 16/07/2021 11:25

I thought they were more MRA than Terf

InvisibleDragon · 16/07/2021 11:25

To be fair, the questions about religious belief and social conservatism are fairly standard. I think they are from validated measures of religiosity and either conservatism or authoritarian beliefs. It's always a bit simplistic to just say how much you agree/disagree with a statement, but that doesn't make the question invalid - particularly as it's part of a series of questions designed to look at different facets of a similar concept.

Shedbuilder · 16/07/2021 11:25

Wow. Is that the level you need to get an MSc at Goldsmiths?

PaleGreenGhost · 16/07/2021 11:24

A bit odd - I mean I think all people should be open to gestures of politeness such as holding doors open. But mainly easy for this foul mouthed atheist to fill in.

Perhaps because genderism requires so much faith to deal with with the scientific and logical inaccuracies, believers can't conceive of what it is like to be truly atheist and not believe in gendered souls either?

That said, I also experienced the author to be something of a terf because they had separate questions about my sex and my gender identity.

Walkacrossthesand · 16/07/2021 11:22

Rubbish in, rubbish out 🤷‍♀️

hedgehogger1 · 16/07/2021 11:21

It doesn't actually say whether the person committed the crime. So therefore the rest feels pointless. Did they or didn't they? Think it would have been more worthwhile to say someone had been found guilty of assault

AfternoonToffee · 16/07/2021 11:19

Surely us witches should know how to darn, what with our pointy toenails, can't be getting through that many socks.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 16/07/2021 11:16

Wow you lot weren't underselling that really was awful.

There's no comparator for anything - disliking swearing from women means nothing if you don't also know if the person dislikes all swearing or approves of men swearing etc etc

Waspie · 16/07/2021 11:14

I completed it. It was poorly written. It seemed to me to be more about religious conservatism than transpeople in prisons. Definitely American in leaning.

Siablue · 16/07/2021 11:13

The supervisor who shared this has asked Jess Taylor to share another student’s survey so she is at least open to the GC perspective.

Wildgarlicpesto · 16/07/2021 11:11

I loathe the word girly and will do so until people start to use boyy.

Nojobforoldmums · 16/07/2021 11:09

Any sexism in my view on outspoken women can only be assessed if you know my view on outspoken men.

Similarly my view on swearing.

And my issues with voluntary euthanasia are rooted in whether it is truly voluntary and opportunities for abuse.

Also agree it didn't baseline my opinions for all prisoners, not just one who may or may not have been guilty of what may have been a minor or very serious assault and may or may not have considered himself to be a woman.

Do universities seriously do research like this? If nothing else on an emotive topic what is to stop fake completions by those who want to "prove" a point. Also did it ask what country you were in?

The only way I can see this is valid is if actually they are exploring social media reaction to such a poor survey.

MTCoffeePot · 16/07/2021 11:09

I wonder what is meant by a 'unique Prolific ID'. Sounds contradictory. It may be a typo for 'Profile'.

ferretface · 16/07/2021 11:08

"This research has explored public perceptions of the risk, rehabilitation and punitiveness of offenders who identify themselves as transgender, and whether religiosity, conservatism and/or gender role beliefs have an effect on these perceptions. "

Atheist lefty here who doesn't believe in gender, got given a scenario of a crossdresser beating up a female flatmate, no way should someone like that be in the female estate.

Badly designed survey too.

Tibtom · 16/07/2021 11:05

This isn't even an undergrad. But they reduce hugely complex issues such as immigration, belief etc down to yes/no question. It shows a lack of depth of thought I would be embarassed for one of my students to show in public. I would fear it would bring my instution into disrepute but this is goldsmiths so perhaps not.
