They were just talking about this on the news and so I came here to find out more. The discussion on the news was similarly inconclusive in terms of what these 'mixed messages' on trans rights were. What they did say was that her co-leader had resigned a few weeks ago so yet again there will be leadership elections.
Littlbrowndog asks if she is going to a better paid job. The BBC website quotes her saying she will concentrate on being a London Assembly member. Like Holyrood and the Senedd, London Assembly members are elected via the constituency or additional member routes. You get two votes - 1 for where you live and 1 for the party list (and another vote for Mayor but that's not relevant here).
There is nowhere in London where the Greens are likely to get a constituency seat either as an MP or as an Assembly member. However, adding up all the Green votes across London, she has got quite a nice safe seat in the Assembly so I think that there's something in the suggestion that she is trying to get a smaller but more secure power base.
Obviously there could be other things going on. Maybe, too, there are people in the Greens who resemble those Labour members who are more interested in ideological purity than in helping the people they claim to be concerned about by actually getting elected and be in a position to do something.
