JV is talking about transphobia and "exclusionary" language like "woman" and "pregnant women'

I’ve listened to the section again and it’s worse the second time of listening.

PurpleHoodie · 14/07/2021 21:25

Paragraph breaks Pud.

Pudmyboy · 14/07/2021 21:02

Don't know why the bold didn't work when it did here!

Pudmyboy · 14/07/2021 21:01

Runningupthecurtains
Times in my life I've been a non menstruator before age 12.5, after age 49, while pregnant, while using certain types of contraception.
Times in my life I've not been female -none.
Clear language is important.

You're nailed it @Runningupthecurtains

I think Jeremy’s true feelings are pretty obvious from his BBC show.

And I think we should compare and contrast how Jenni Murray was treated for writing a piece for the Sunday Times that wasn’t considered neutral, with what Jeremy Vine is allowed to get away with both on the BBC and even more overtly away from it, while keeping his career free of all reprimand and still being able to host discussions on the topic on his BBC show.

Some BBC radio presenters are definitely more equal than others.

I wonder why that could be?

Yes.

@TalkingtoLangClegintheDark

Also, Vine’s Special Soft Voice makes me want to vomit and always has done. Absolutely loathsome.
I missed the end of the section. I’m going to listen again. Unfortunately I missed the bit I wanted to hear. I hoped for more callers. I’m sure there were plenty who didn’t get to speak.

Also Jeremy pointing out how gross the men's toilets will be for women.

Surely the men paying for their holidays will be cleaning their own shit up, in the mens blocks, if they agree to the greedy holiday park owners demands.

@DobbyTheHouseElk

If you watch Jeremy on his c5 show he shows his true feelings on matters. On the BBC he won’t have an opinion.

@Reachersloveinterest

Apparently today is Non-Binary awareness week and so my public sector workplace are bombarding us with daily awareness emails. From today's email, on 'stepping up as an ally': -introduce yourself with name and pronoun -put pronouns in email signature -avoid gendered language like ladies and gentlemen, say 'folks' or 'pals' instead. -provide alternative titles such as Mx. -use 'their' instead of his/her. -avoid words define relationship and gender, instead focus on the relationship eg 'parent'. -make sure that your workplace/school is using inclusive language and avoiding sentences that imply two genders. They put forward Sam Smith as a fantastic non-Binary role model. From Stonewall, of course.
I’m realising more and more this is a key part of it isn’t it, why can’t it be inclusive language in addition to gendered language? Why does it have to be instead of? That’s what sets up antagonism and signifies a hierarchy.
TalkingOutYerArse · 14/07/2021 18:45

You could tell how nervous Chae was and how much they weren't trying to trip themselves up with their words. God, even these guys find the gender ideology language contortion tricky, that much was definitely clear.

Luminousnose · 14/07/2021 18:40

“A person who has a cervix” is a ridiculous term. A quick Google tells me that 20% of women will have a hysterectomy at some point in their lives. What does that make them? Non binary? Ditto “people who menstruate” completely ignores the fact that many women don’t menstruate for various reasons, including certain forms of contraception and the menopause.

midgemagneto · 14/07/2021 18:21

@Blackandwhitehorse

Please can someone explain - I’m being encouraged to put pro nouns in my email, but on the other hand we are to use non gendered language. But aren’t those things contradictory? I don’t understand!
They want you to pretend that you can't tell the sex of someone so can't complain if they make you feel uncomfortable

They want to remind you every days that you are female to ensure you underperform

AfternoonToffee · 14/07/2021 18:19

Do not think, just do.

WinterTrees · 14/07/2021 18:18

I heard a bit of this in the car and what jumped out at me was when Milli Hill described the violent threats, abuse and trolling she has endured for talking about obstetric violence as something that happens to women, and Jeremy Vine brushed it off as if it was utterly inconsequential and moved along with indecent haste to the next lovely caller with a lovely non-binary child who was there to support lovely inclusiveness, and JV could go back to using his Special Soft Voice.

That is why we're having this conversation, Jezza you knob. Violence against women in childbirth? Violent threats to women who talk about it? Yeah, whatever - nothing to see here. Hurt feelings of the most marginalised group ever? THIS IS INTOLERABLE.

Flippantfair · 14/07/2021 18:10

Welcome to the lack of logic, @blackandwhitehorse

Thortful · 14/07/2021 17:23

DH heard it. He's finally woken up to what's going on. That, coupled with the picture of the 'woman' in Canada who attacked a child has caused the scales to fall from his eyes.
I really hope lots of normal non social media heard this and are as stunned as DH

quiteathome · 14/07/2021 17:03

As for a new word for them for mother. It was hard

DobbyTheHouseElk · 14/07/2021 17:03

@quiteathome

My DH and I were trying to think of what the kids should call us if we all went gender neutral.

Parent with Penis does not role off the tongue, so we went with Dicky.

Penis Person was mentioned on the radio.
DobbyTheHouseElk · 14/07/2021 17:02

You can’t ignore basic biology.

I’m a woman. Not “a person who has a cervix”. I find that phrase deeply offensive.

The tag line on my lil-ets packaging says “made by women, for women”.

HollowTalk · 14/07/2021 16:27

The thing that bugs me most is that we are told we are guilty of "wrong think." So having a live-and-let-live attitude just isn't enough; the only thing that certain people want is for us to believe and know that transmen are women.

I was brought up in the Catholic faith and of course a similar thing happens there - you are told what to believe and told you are wrong if you don't believe it. It's indoctrination.

It's odd that the TW movement thinks of itself as so liberal when they are simultaneously trying to indoctrinate society into believing something they actually know to be false.

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 14/07/2021 16:21

I didn't @BeIIend, but how telling we all know what a woman is when it comes to who cleans out the shitty toilets!

Gender should have fuck all to do with medical appointments based on sex. As an aside I really wish they'd stop chucking non binary into everything, it means bugger all. Well, to females who choose non binary I suspect a lot of it is trying to escape the unrealistic expectations on girls and women today, along with VAWG and the sexual expectations of porn addled men. For males who choose it, get some they/them pronouns, say you aren't a male really, (but carry on retaining all that lovely male privilege), and identify your way into women's spaces.

highame · 14/07/2021 16:19

Good choice Bellend. I just love it when a plan comes together. All we need are all the idiots trying to work out TWAW within intersectional feminism and how this translates into actual lived reality and we'll have cracked it.......oh just a sec, we already have that
