Do "GC"s never, ever wonder whether they might be the baddies? Or even uncomfortably close to them?

Yes, I also reviewed my position. I was definitely inclusive/a trans ally - I saw no reason why there should be any issue in including transwomen in my feminism. My impression was largely formed by reading things like the series that ran in the Guardian about a transitioner, and other broadly sympathetic stories about transsexuals.

Then in about 2014 someone referred to me as “cis” and I didn’t understand what they meant. They told me, and suggested I educate myself.

So I did! I read everything I could get my hands on, and talked to as many people as I could, before #nodebate really started to kick in. I read Caitlin Jenner tell me that the hardest thing about being a woman was deciding what to wear. I read about the Sylvia Rivera Law Project and Laverne Cox fighting to have Synthia China Blast, a violent child rapist and killer to be freed because of their struggle to be recognised as a woman within the penal system. I read about the targeting and subsequent shutdown of the women only Michfest festival due to its policy that transwomen, although welcome in a specific camp, were not permitted full access.

I changed my mind about my support because I could not help but notice the disastrous impact that the push to replace sex with gender in public life has had women’s rights, and women’s realities, and I’ve not read or discussed anything since that has disabused me of that impression.

You won’t change my mind back by just saying “don’t you think you’re kind of horrid?” Hmm

give women here some credit, if you can, that we have got where we are by a process of reason, based on our experience and knowledge, and if you want that to change, you’re going to have to use reason to make that happen.

@ArcheryAnnie

I regularly review my own position so, yes, I often consider whether I am wrong.

Have Birthrights said what kind of "violence" they have been threatened with? Because in a world where a woman saying "no" is considered "violence", and a woman being threatened with rape, death, lynching, burning as a TERF, is just getting what they deserve, it's important to be clear.

This.

@toffeebutterpopcorn

Sorry... in my defence... I was trying to fix a technical issue with my laptop and marinade some tofu at the same time (whilst listening to a very interesting radio programme about the Bletchley women).

Bad toffee... (although I did wonder why everyone was yelling at me!)

You can get ready-marinated tofu. I've got some in my fridge right now.

10/10 for multi-tasking, though.Flowers

Thanks RickiTarr.

TotorosCatBus · 14/07/2021 18:30

If there were screenshots, people who were undecided or had no opinion about gender issues would be swayed to become an ally.

Please post screenshots

TotorosCatBus · 14/07/2021 18:28

There would definitely be screenshots if GC women were posting threats. They'd be retweeted all over the Internet by popular people who believe in TWAW etc

yourhairiswinterfire · 14/07/2021 18:18

Still no evidence of these abusive, threatening GC ''baddies'' then Pumpkin??

Not everything you read on Twatter is true. I understand it's probably exciting thinking you have a reason to come and tell all the silly wimmin off, but maybe check you're telling us off for something that actually happened next time.

RickiTarr · 14/07/2021 18:10

I think OP means “gender critical people”.

Viviennemary · 14/07/2021 18:08

What are GC's. Thanks. Googled it but couldnt find anything.

This is a key point. I'm not sure Birthrights have elaborated on these nebulous "threats of violence" unlike GC women and public figures who can post pages and pages of receipts.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 14/07/2021 18:04

Oh yes toffee that sounds lovely.

TheSlayer · 14/07/2021 18:01

@toffeebutterpopcorn

Soya sauce, olive oil and chilli. Mmmmmm. Pretty basic but it will be lovely. I also threw in some small cauliflower florettes (it’s just crazy in our kitchen).
That sounds great. I may have to invite myself round to tea.
chickenyhead · 14/07/2021 17:55

Deflection

Well done.

Ooh what are you marinading it in?

ClumpingBambooIsALie · 14/07/2021 17:01

TRAs are getting themselves a reputation as the wolves who cried wolf when it comes to violence and threats of violence, unfortunately.

Which seems bizarre, given that presumably a significant proportion of gay, trans, and other nonconforming people have experienced actual threats and violence from the usual suspects when it comes to threats and violence. I suppose it's a combination of hypervigilance and experience of the fact that people tend to be sympathetic towards those who report being victims of threats and violence.

Actually yes, I do often consider my position on this and read widely and educate myself. And yet I still come to the same conclusions. You can't change sex etc etc.

I would never abuse or threaten someone, and I've never seen any of my GC friends abuse or threaten someone, they usually use wise words to try and get their point of view across.

Please send links to the abuse GC women are sending and I will definitely read it and compare with the abuse and threats GC women receive and educate myself, as I am so often told to do. Thanks.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 14/07/2021 16:43

Only if it’s (controversial I know) treacle toffee 😋

Leafstamp · 14/07/2021 16:36
