Question re relationships with trans people

Twitter is full of people that are prepared to defend trans rights at any cost. I’ve seen some hideous things written about people that believe otherwise. The insults against jk Rowling were hard to read. We saw it the other day when maya won her appeal case. People over ran social media with insults against “TERFS” etc.

I assume these people would have zero issue dating a trans person in that case? If trans women are women and sex doesn’t matter and it’s widely accepted that you can switch gender, then will those people start dating trans people? Will we see more women dating trans men for example? Will tinder do away with any search filters?

If not… why?

"man" and "woman" are gender identities

They are not. They are the words for adult human males and females respectively.

Nothing to do with 'gender'. Forcing people into gendered boxes is regressive and unnecessary.

chickenyhead · 13/07/2021 01:55

It is not

chickenyhead · 13/07/2021 01:55

My passport states sex

CuriousPanda · 13/07/2021 01:55

@chickenyhead

I do not, nor ever will have a gender. EVER.

I have a sex.

It is protected in law.

Go on, deny it.

I don't want to repeat myself, lol. The very label of "woman" is gender.
chickenyhead · 13/07/2021 01:54

I reject socially imposed bullshit.

My birth certificate states sex.

CiaoForNiao · 13/07/2021 01:54

I call myself a woman because that's the word for an adult human female. Nowt to do with gender feels.

I also wasn't assigned a gender at birth. My sex was observed and noted. Likewise when I had my own dc. Their sex was observed and noted. Who do I complain to about this lack of gender assignment? Is it PALS or someone else?

@OldCrone

Identifying as the same gender as the one assigned at birth.

People aren't assigned a gender at birth.

They are, the moment you call a child a "boy" or a "girl", you are assigning a gender.
OldCrone · 13/07/2021 01:53

Identifying as the same gender as the one assigned at birth.

People aren't assigned a gender at birth.

CuriousPanda · 13/07/2021 01:53

@chickenyhead

I have NO gender.

I am female sexed.

I am NOT cis.

Never have been.

I don't fall under the gender reassignment protected characteristic, because I am not trans. As such I have NO GENDER IDENTITY. NONE.

"man" and "woman" are gender identities, whether or not you believe they should be strictly based on sex is a different matter entirely, it doesn't change the fact that these labels are culturally codified social identities.
chickenyhead · 13/07/2021 01:52

That my sex. It falls under the equality act as a protected characteristic, are you denying my right to that?

OldCrone · 13/07/2021 01:52

If you've never questioned it, and never thought about being anything except what you were assigned at birth (female, girl, woman, etc.), then you're most likely cis, and that's it, you're the gender you were assigned birth.

What do you mean by 'never thought about being anything except...'? Do you mean like imagining you were someone else? Doesn't everyone do that at some time in their life? Particularly children using their imagination.

What about girls who realise early on (as I did) that boys seem to get a better deal in life, but realise that as people can't change sex, they are stuck with being girls and just get on with it? Are they 'cis'? Do they have the same 'gender' as girls who like being girls and never wanted to be boys?

CuriousPanda · 13/07/2021 01:51

If you call yourself a "woman", that's your gender.

What does 'cis' mean?

Identifying as the same gender as the one assigned at birth.
CuriousPanda · 13/07/2021 01:47

@NiceGerbil

'They are about gender, as imposed on people on the basis of sex.

Homophobic oppressors have that in common with you -- you both have no regard for self-identification, and force people to adhere to the categories you impose on them.'

Ok so

You argue that the laws globally/ through history banning same sex acts especially between men. Are not about the sex organs of the people who have sex.

You specifically state that anyone who takes gay/ lesbian to mean homosexual aka same sex attracted. Has the mindset as men in South Africa who kidnap torture gang rape murder. Lesbians who are out.

That's a strong stance to take.

Not being as violent as some other bigots doesn't mean you're not a bigot or not complicit in violent bigotry.

OldCrone · 13/07/2021 01:46

And each of these, trans people can alter to match their gender identity.

How do people decide on a gender identity?

CuriousPanda · 13/07/2021 01:46

@OldCrone

How does a person know what their 'gender' is *@CuriousPanda*?

CiaoForNiao · 13/07/2021 01:45

And external physical characteristics can be altered.

But the vast majority of trans people don't alter them. Unless we are talking about clothes and hair.

@NiceGerbil

'And what do you think sexual attraction is based on? Gametes and chromosomes, or external physical characteristics?'

We're mammals fgs! External physical characteristics? You mean hair clothes? What do you mean?

External physical characteristics = at the most basic. Penis/ vulva.

If it's not about bodies then... Why is mainstream porn all about bodies?

I mean physical features. Body shape, facial structure, breasts, etc. These are some of the features that drive sexual attraction.

And each of these, trans people can alter to match their gender identity.

chickenyhead · 13/07/2021 01:43

So it isnt based on an idea in someone's head, but the junk in the trunk? @CuriousPanda

OldCrone · 13/07/2021 01:42

chickenyhead · 13/07/2021 01:42

TWAW is the biggest lie I have ever heard.
