Another entry for the female violent crime stats. The perpetrator has been jailed, so would that be in a women’s prison?

Judge Silas Reid: “There are two sides to this lady — one is the side when she’s off medication and one is the side when she’s on it.”

Thank you, @Ekofisk. We can agree to agree on everything in that post!

Valeriekat · 03/07/2021 16:15

@Imasoulman
Care in the community was also wanted by Labour at the time although for different reasons.

Ekofisk · 02/07/2021 11:10

No, of course I’m not OK with that. That wasn’t my issue with your post either, hence I didn’t comment on it.

Incidentally, I’m also not OK with 30% of all female convictions being for TV licence evasion, compared to just 4% of all male convictions. The sooner TV licence evasion is decriminalised the better.

NewlyGranny · 02/07/2021 11:06

I've answered all your questions, Ekofisk, but you've not answered the one I keep asking you: are you OK with a designated women's prison accepting penis-having, self-identified transwomen at a ratio of 1:2 or 1:3 or 1:4 or 1:n of the population?

A yes or no answer shouldn't take a moment as you're obviously thinking about the topic. If you'd rather not say, that's absolutely fine too, just say so and I won't ask again.

Ekofisk · 02/07/2021 10:43

Bugger, fat fingers on a tiny keyboard.

158.4 not 148.4.

Ekofisk · 02/07/2021 10:39
@Ekofisk, I corrected my faulty recollection several posts back. Are you reading or just reacting?

And do you really consider it would be fine for 1in 3 (rather than my erroneous 1in 2) inmates in women's prisons in the UK to be intact males? Would that be OK with you? And realistically, if they agreed to every existing request for a transfer to the women's estate, how long would it be until the penis-havers outnumbered the women, do you think?

Estimates on a postcard, please. Weeks can be rounded to months.

I could give another lesson on rounding, but I'd have to charge, as you're neither a family member nor under the age of 10 and I'm all charitied out on this topic now. 😂
No, you haven’t corrected anything.

And I can read just fine, thank you.

I wasn’t disputing the stats on trans woman sex offenders, BTW, or the fact that trans women have male offending patterns.

It was your following statement that is nonsense:

Apparently there are more XY convicted people currently in or clamouring to get into the women's estate than there are women incarcerated in total.

And then, as a PP correctly inferred from your statement, queried how there could be 4000 (rounded up from 3812 provided in the FPFW link) male prisoners claiming to be women, was accused of making things up?

Even using the 3430 figure, it’s just a wee bit more than 1 in 50 (or 2%) of the male population of 77,420 (or 148.4 males, I’ll let you do the rounding).

The Telegraph 1:50 quoted figure is confirmed in the Bent Bars Project:

In its 2018-19 Annual Report, HM Inspectorate of Prison England & Wales noted that in its survey of 5,990 respondents in men’s prisons, 2% of people identified as transgender. Of 458 respondents in women’s prisons, 1% identified as transgender.6 If those numbers are accurate and representative, it would mean that there could be approximately 1570 trans people in men’s prisons and around 35-40 in women’s prisons.7 However as some prisons hold more vulnerable prisoners (including trans prisoners) than others, scaling up these percentages across the estate is not necessarily reliable.

I’m also happy to assure you that my maths is quite adequate, on the basis that nothing I’ve designed over the last 30 years has either blown up or fallen down.

So good I posted it twice! Sorry, it didn't show up for me first time. ☺️

2020 data. The most recent.

NewlyGranny · 02/07/2021 09:53

Ekofisk, my 2020 data trumps outdated figures, I contend.

When you round it down to 3k (which I didn't, not my precedent, but if you're rounding the older 3.8 to 4k, you have to be consistent and round 3.4 down to 3k) remember it already includes some self-identified penis-havers.

Have fun.

@Reallyreallyborednow

Funny that women are deemed too thick to remember to take birth control daily, but people with mental health disorders and previous convictions etc can be trusted to take meds without a hitch. I think work to make slow release bars for all sorts of medication is a great idea!

Many medications for MH are slow release or depot. Problem is it does depend on the drug, some simply cannot be formulated that way.

There is no medication for BPD unfortunately, some low dose antipsychotics help and anti depressants are often prescribed but everyone with this diagnosis is different. Even if depot medication were an option Paris would need to agree to it as BPD is not considered a judgement impairing illness in the way Schizophrenia is.
toffeebutterpopcorn · 02/07/2021 09:11

Maybe they should just lock some of these lawmakers in a jail in that situation. Of course this would really only work with the female ones...

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 02/07/2021 09:10

Imagine being a woman sharing a cell and having to listen to a man penis-haver doing Niagara impressions in the middle of the night with no door between you. Though that would probably be the least of your worries

And in California:

The Los Angeles Times reported in April that while only four transgender inmates had been transferred to CCWF since the law took effect, the prison system had approved "21 gender-based housing requests and denied none," with more than 200 requests pending. The CDCR said more than 1,000 inmates identify as transgender, nonbinary or intersex. …
… What predator wouldn't take advantage of this opportunity to serve their sentence surrounded by potential new victims who are too scared to stand up for themselves?" the Woman II Woman letter said. "How does it protect transwomen [sic] to bring the same problems to the women's prisons?"

…With biologically male inmates coming in, female inmates are "now making sleep schedules so that one woman is always on watch to make sure no one gets raped."

chickenyhead · 02/07/2021 09:04

So 50% of the female population, or half again of self identified women, isn't already enough? Or are you arguing for more?

One pebis having male born person to each 2 female born people, in WOMEN'S prisons.

No problem with this?

Newlygranny

But your statement apparently there are more XY convicted people currently in or clamouring to get into the women's estate than there are women incarcerated in total was clearly wrong.

As there are 3,830 female prisoners (2019 figures), it implies that there must be more than 3,830 male prisoners identifying as women, whereas the quoted 1 in 50 male prisoners statistic suggests it’s 1575 (based on the 2019 figure of 78,700 male prisoners in the UK).

All the PP did was round up 3830 to 4000.

NewlyGranny · 01/07/2021 23:27

Clearly we just need loads more women sentenced to prison to reach this imaginary target of 4000 and keep people who like fat round numbers happy!

Anyone for a debate about how many gender-free angels can dance on the head of a pin? Estimates rounded to the nearest thousand, naturally.

That’s where the 4000 figure comes from (rounded up from around 3830 from the 2019 figures).

@Clymene

The only person who has mentioned the number 4,000 has been you *@Imasoulman*
I know and if you read the thread you will understand where that figure came from
DaisiesandButtercups · 01/07/2021 20:51

Anyone interested in this topic would do well to look up Rhona Hotchkiss. There are numerous videos of her speaking and articles about her available online. She speaks about prisons in Scotland.

@NewlyGranny

Give it a rest now, *@Imasoulman*, do.

That's not how rounding works, is it? You'd only round to the nearest 1000 if the total were in 10s of 1000s. And even if you did, 3.4k rounds down to 3k anyway. I know this bc I remotely tutored an 8yo family member over Zoom in the first lockdown, so it's not high level stuff.

And I assume you know how search engines work, or rather, how to use your preferred one.

Interested to know what you find.

"Approximately " would be the key word here.

"Approximately 4000"

Not sure why you think asking for facts is a bad thing.

@Ekofisk

TBF, 1 in 50 male prisoners identifying as women is a pretty significant number.

It is indeed and hugely out of step with the general population.
I don't think those figures can be relied on for their accuracy though, asking prisoners to simply tick a box is hardly in depth research.

Imasoulman · 01/07/2021 10:08

@NewlyGranny

You said that there were more transwomen in or trying to get into female prisons than there are women in prison.

Current female prison population is around 3500.
That would mean as I said approximately 4000 transwomen.
I just wanted to see the stats as that seemed a lot, we can now see the numbers are no where near that.

Don't for one minute think I am in favour of intact transwomen in female prisons, I absolutely am not.

I was simply surprised by the assumed numbers.
