On Twitter, no reference.
If this is true it's a travesty.
I find it very hard to believe.

If we're to assume this is true - and the trqns lobby groups seem to want us to do so - then there needs to be urgent work in understanding the reasons. Else teens that are transitioning need to be told there's a very high chance they have lived half their lives already, and are they OK with that?

Yes definitely. Highly frustrating and does a lot to discredit a positive cause.

@PaleBlueMoonlight

Where do you get that from Tibtom?
I worked it out from murder statistics and population size

It's just more lies and emotional blackmail.

Give in to every demand or I will DiE!!!!

There was one the other day about the huge rise in trans people being attacked in the UK. No. They're not though are they. But then they do think women talking about sex based reality is ACTUAL violence so..

What I would like to see published is accurate negative side effects on females after starting testosterone? Including the average age those females have their ovaries removed due to atrophy and the prevalence of dementia. The risk of heart disease etc.

I would like to see these effects widely published and discussed. Because we have had posters recently telling us lesbians and non-binary females are taking testosterone to develop more masculine features (ie. Not transitioning, just micro dosing for cosmetic appeal). Now I don’t know how wide spread it is, but there are articles published about it too.

Seems to me that the lack of discussion about the side effects, the downplaying of them, is encouraging these risky decisons.

150 transpeople murdered in a year www.statista.com/statistics/944650/number-trans-murders-latin-america-country/

Meanwhile 10 women are murdered a day: www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/americas/07/12/brazil.domestic.violence/index.html

The number comes from the average age of Brazilian transsexual prostitutes who are murdered.

This is one of those statistics where you keep the number, but change what it refers to to make it look shocking. When in fact the result here is so nonsensical that it doesn't pass a common sense test.

It's not life expectancy - it's the average age of murder victims. Totally different thing.

And that's in line with the average age of murder victims generally. There's no significant difference in the 35 number for "trans" here compared to the general population.

One of the things to always look for is comparators for "non-trans" from the same source data. That will reveal dodginess like this.

ArabellaScott · 30/06/2021 08:31

Tiresome when people fling numbers about with no references. The patience of Katie Herzog in dismantling it is amazing.

Also when men transition to be transwomen they will be recorded as having an early death as women live longer than men by five years on average. This should be cancelled out by transmen eventually but at the explosion in numbers of transmen is in the younger population.

I'm not sure the cancelling out you suggest will necessarily happen - sadly (but unsurprisingly) it seems there's evidence that transitioning may affect the long term health of transmen.

The source of the misleading figure cited above really doesn't seem to understand intersectionality at all.

Being a transsexual prostitute in the drug dealer controlled Brazilian favelas == being a blue hair no hormones male bodied white person in Islington

OhHolyJesus · 30/06/2021 08:24

The impact of long term cross sex hormones on the body is probably not yet fully understood, I understand that damage is done to the kidneys and reproductive organs, maybe reproductive cancers are more likely? I don't know. We know about the surgeries and what happens when it goes wrong, though no one has died as far as I'm aware. We know what puberty blockers do to bones and brains...

Wheston Chancellor Grove, a woman who detransitioned has said in since deleted on you tube videos that she suffered various health issues and stopped taking T, as have many others (if the NHS would listen to them that would be great).

I imagine the figured quoted has been made up. It's certainly not calling for more data.

Keepemguessing · 30/06/2021 08:23

The usual nonsense, coopting the terrible deaths of transwomen in Brazil to claim victimhood for transwomen in countries like the UK.

Xoxoxoxoxoxox · 30/06/2021 08:12

I think the stats for trans women in places like Brazil are pretty horrific as they are often involved in prostitution and the life expectancy for prostitutes in Brazil and similar countries is very low.
