On Twitter, no reference.
If this is true it's a travesty.
I find it very hard to believe.

Why do you care so much about what some random (probably teenage) person posted?

Because so many people actually believe them. And this misinformation is being consumed by our teenagers. Or , have you again forgot them? And the fact that the majority of young transitioners are teenaged females, who many of us have in our daily lives....

Why are you acting like they're an official organisation that needs to be held to account?

Because any person or organisation that publishes this misinformation needs to stop.

Looking forward to the correct stats being posted soon though. Thanks.

merrymouse · 30/06/2021 12:36

Why are you acting like they're an official organisation that needs to be held to account?

Yet here you are, apparently, shouting at randoms on the internet.

heathspeedwell · 30/06/2021 12:35

Sorry Datun, I posted before realising you said the same thing!

heathspeedwell · 30/06/2021 12:34

The reason we're debating as if an official organisation said this is that it's exactly the sort of daft claim that some people make all the time.

I haven't got a link but I remember Munroe Bergorf claiming that as a transwomen of colour it was an achievement to hit 30. This is someone who worked (briefly) for the NSPCC.

Datun · 30/06/2021 12:33

But you're debating it as if it were an official organisation that needs to be held to account.

I'm not debating it. I'm saying it's lies. Munroe bergdorf claimed the same thing. I have no idea why, since it's so obviously bollocks.

Helleofabore · 30/06/2021 12:33

As far as I can see, this is some random account on Twitter. It could be a 13 year old for all we know.

But you're debating it as if it were an official organisation that needs to be held to account.

This statistic in the title is being used in different places, it is not just some 'random'. But nice minimising, and perpetuating your own brand of misinformation.

Again though, post us the current statistics that disprove this. You obviously don't believe it yourself. Why is this?

yeahbutnaw · 30/06/2021 12:31

Moving goalposts.

Try engaging with the point I'm making, rather than fabricating another.

What was your point? You replied to another poster who said "This thread is about accuracy in statistical claims being made by a group of people for political reasons" with the comment: "The "political reasons" being that they want to live a life free from discrimination and violence?"

All I did was ask how inaccurate statistics would help this. I believe that accurate statistics would help this cause more.

Can you explain what other point you thought you were making?

What repercussions do you think the random person who posted this Tweet needs to face?

What would be suitable to you? Why do you care so much about what some random (probably teenage) person posted?

Why are you acting like they're an official organisation that needs to be held to account?

Helleofabore · 30/06/2021 12:31

If only you showed the same diligence and critical thinking about the information spread on here. But you don't.

And yet, someone has actually traced back to where the stat has replicated from. Or haven't you read the thread with the links.

@Helleofabore

The "political reasons" being that they want to live a life free from discrimination and violence?

Sure... you can twist it how you wish.

How about the

The "political reasons" being that some groups wish to push affirming only treatment when there are many very experienced clinicians saying that is a harmful approach for the current cohort of young transitioners - the majority being young female transitioners....

I guess you might want to prevent parents of those young people having access to accurate information....

The "political reasons" being that they want as adults to have affirming only treatments despite even latest published studies raising doubts that these treatments offer the relief to mental health that many transitioners are seeking.

I guess you might want to prevent adults needing to make fully informed decisions having access to accurate information....

The "political reasons" being that some groups wish to access female single sex spaces that causes distress and harm to vulnerable females and these groups are making various claims to do so that are proving to be untrue.

I guess you might want to prevent women for stating their boundaries and discussing their needs to have female single sex spaces....

And so on...

I, for one, am very happy to see current statistics and studies that prove the claims being made though. You know, we do read them and dissect them here so it would be great to have them to help us understand what is truth from hyperbole.

Please continue to post them and show us the evidence. That is pretty much what I am here for. The evidence.

"Many" experienced clinicians seems like a stretch, eh?

I mean even if we take Thoughtful Therapists (LGB Alliance's favourite), it's led by a trainee psychologist (James Esses). They couldn't even get a fully qualified one to join.

Says a lot about your "many" comment.

We are.

How about giving us the correct statistics and links to studies then? I have not recalled many studies or statistics posted from you lately, now is a great time to improve our knowledge.

@Datun

The "political reasons" being that they want to live a life free from discrimination and violence?

Very political.

Why are they lying about the statistics, in that case?

As far as I can see, this is some random account on Twitter. It could be a 13 year old for all we know.

So are there people who argue we should accept any old shite stats in order to #bekind.
Oh dear.

OP posts:
Datun · 30/06/2021 12:23

Even more research data shows that they outnumber homosexual transsexuals by around 9 to 1.

Do you have a link to that, by any chance CharlieParley

yeahbutnaw · 30/06/2021 12:19

@OldCrone

The "political reasons" being that they want to live a life free from discrimination and violence?

How does misrepresenting statistics help people to live a life free from discrimination and violence? Wouldn't accurate statistics help more, so that the actual problems and causes of this discrimination and violence could be tackled?

NecessaryScene · 30/06/2021 12:15

Has anyone ever succeeding in being able to "live a life free from discrimination and violence" via the use of lies, and attacking others pointing out the lies?

Doesn't seem like a winning recipe to me.

Civil rights movements have previously relied on the truth, but maybe this one isn't really a civil rights movement.

purpleboy · 30/06/2021 12:08

It's quite scary how people can take stats and twist them to suit the narrative they want to push. Why does a group of women talking about false statistics scare you so much?

Tibtom · 30/06/2021 12:04

What is scary about it Mishy?

Beowulfa · 30/06/2021 12:02

@MishyJDI

You people are actually quite scary. Debating murder stats and arguing over whether trans people are justified in calling out themselves as a minority suffering prejudice and lower life expectancy.

Wow. Is this issue really impacting you that much, that this is where you get to. Sad.

I'm personally saddened by people using the violent early deaths of vulnterable trans prostitutes in Brazil for their own agenda.

What's the average age of all the women killed in domestic violence in the UK last year? Why isn't that of interest on social media?

yeahbutnaw · 30/06/2021 12:01

@Helleofabore

Mishy. As usual, you are mistaken.

This thread is about accuracy in statistical claims being made by a group of people for political reasons.

Why do you not want to know that trans people in the UK can expect to have a long life? What purpose do YOU have in perpetuating falsehoods?

And yes, the increased health risks to female transitioners is of major concern to many people here. Particularly those with female teenagers, Mishy. Do you have a teenage daughter that you are concerned about?

Do you wish to shut parents of teenage females up and simply have them believe the falsehoods being spread?

So, your Is this issue really impacting you that much, that this is where you get to. Sad. pretty much shows everyone what your intentions actually are. Please continue to post, because it really is enlightening to all.

The "political reasons" being that they want to live a life free from discrimination and violence?

Very political.

StrangeLookingParasite · 30/06/2021 12:00

And no, they don't have a lower life expectancy, in the majority of countries.
