On Twitter, no reference.
If this is true it's a travesty.
I find it very hard to believe.

@PhiRhoSigma Always seems to be the NHS and the govt who have to pick up the pieces and try to make good the damage caused by the shoddy and shabby conduct of private clinicians and practitioners, and it will be the case with this too, I'd imagine. The alchemists will be long gone by then.

PhiRhoSigma · 01/07/2021 13:08

@Helleofabore

Unfortunately junipertree those interested in transitioning or the cosmetic appeal of ‘t’ aren’t doing that google search. I wish they would.

Instead, we are seeing the glamorization of taking testosterone. It reminds me of the anabolic steroid issues.

Sadly, my professional experience is that it is nigh on impossible to investigate adverse health consequences of mis-use of steroid class drugs, whether by women or men (e.g. in gyms). No funding, difficult ethics, illegal drug supply/use, etc. I just don't think much solid research will get done on this. It never does for 'cosmetic' procedures either, we just pick up the pieces years later.
Helleofabore · 01/07/2021 13:08

Oh look @yeahbutnaw!!

A random police group tweeted this yesterday!!!!

Just a random teenager?

Jaxhog · 01/07/2021 12:44

What seems extraordinary to me is that we are effectively experimenting on people when they transition. We have no real idea what the long (or even medium) term impact on life expectancy is. Spouting random stats without qualification is unhelpful. We should be collecting stats objectively and comprehensively. Of course, allowing people to change their sex/gender records retrospectively will make this well nigh impossible.

Cailleach1 · 01/07/2021 12:34

Blinkin' heck. Shouldn't police statistics have some force of objective truth behind them? Does social media now mean any old stuff can be issued under their imprimatur.

Cailleach1 · 01/07/2021 12:33

@Melroses

Jan Morris managed a very long innings.
And Jan's transformation into a woman identity didn't interfere with Jan's membership of a male only London club. No triggering there lads!
Ekofisk · 01/07/2021 12:27

@Datun

We're pretending this is official statement from an actual organisation

when in fact it was a random teenager

It's very unpleasant to notice how you describe 'random teenagers' with such contempt. These are our children. Being fed lies. And there's you, trying to stop us from correcting them.

Oh look.

Surrey Police LGBT+ have Tweeted exactly the same stats.

Isn’t it a bit worrying that the UK police are propagating these debunked stats?

Helleofabore · 01/07/2021 12:02

@MrGHardy

They are still peddling this lie?
Yes. But we are hateful for discussing that it is incorrectly being used and to be concerned for the implications where it is still being used… apparently…
MrGHardy · 01/07/2021 11:45

They are still peddling this lie?

Helleofabore · 01/07/2021 08:07

’Says a lot about your "many" comment.’

Oh look @yeahbutnaw, the New York Post says ‘many’ too!!

nypost.com/2021/06/30/inside-the-rush-to-reassign-the-genders-of-kids/?fbclid=IwAR2dxOFc8emu06y7c6GIKS7F1FZWd9wF6RuHchIQD0ns0Ty6o31rvv3QYfY

Gosh… maybe you ARE behind in your reading as well as your facts and stats. If even the NY post says it, there must be a ground swell happening in the USA as well.

Still looking forward to the latest statistics on life expectancy for the UK for transpeople, murder rates etc and stats to disprove ‘many’ clinicians are worried that one size doesn’t fit all.

Because you told us ’If only you showed the same diligence and critical thinking about the information spread on here. But you don't.’

And well… it seems that only you don’t at the moment. Your questionable credibility is even rather shakier than before.

Oh, and maybe you can back up your assertion that the statistic is ONLY being pushed by a random twitter teenager.

Because, the links posted yesterday was from just a quick search to show you how wide spread it is.

@Beeeeeeeeeeeeeep

Being a transsexual prostitute in the drug dealer controlled Brazilian favelas =\= being a blue hair no hormones male bodied white person in Islington
😂😂😂
mumwon · 30/06/2021 21:57

My point about trans women in Asia was are they are included in the stats? - & yes I am very aware of pre birth sex based abortion - which is technically illegal there & further more the kidnapping of girls (not women usually) to areas with few females precisely because of this, also illegal. Poverty means inequality - & even in an more extreme way than here.
I worry about inaccurate statistics & there use & long term hormone use or blocking of hormones. Now this I do know - cancer treatment for prostate cancer can include hormone blocking &these men have to be checked for osteoporosis

Keepemguessing · 30/06/2021 21:22

@mumwon

can I mention trans women in the Subcontinent - they live a life separate & often despised, by the mains stream society. Many there are prostitutes or treated as such & definitely not rich or accepted. I imagine they have shorter lifespans too (no proof or stats but its more than likely). I can't imagine so-called "ladyboys" in South Asia have a good quality of life or long life span either Both of the above groups often have risky life styles & may be at risk of VD including AIDS as they can be attacked/raped
Can I mention women in the subcontinent? Many are not even born because of sex selective abortion. Young girls are forced into marriage. Rape and murder are at endemic levels.

Exactly. And petrifying our kids too.

I am sure that many trans people in other countries have life expectancies that vary to the UK, Australia, Canada and and even the USA.

However, these statistics are being used to compel decisions about policies in the UK, Australia, Canada and USA. That is what this thread is all about.

It would be excellent for trans health and safety to be improved every where so that life expectancy is no different. That is definitely something that lobby groups should be working very hard for.

CiaoForNiao · 30/06/2021 18:01

@StealthPolarBear

Maybe in the new world where men are women, age 35 is actually age 75.
To be fair I'm 36 and feel 90 so it's possible!!!
CiaoForNiao · 30/06/2021 18:00

@MishyJDI

You people are actually quite scary. Debating murder stats and arguing over whether trans people are justified in calling out themselves as a minority suffering prejudice and lower life expectancy.

Wow. Is this issue really impacting you that much, that this is where you get to. Sad.

It doesn't affect me personally no.

But its being shared, shared and shared again by lots of "influencers" some of whom are only teens themselves. Some of whom my teens follow on SM. My teens then (potentially) see the "facts" and believe them and share them with their friends. Who then believe them and share them with their friends and so on and so on.

That's why (imo) we have to fight these inaccuracies.

@Sophoclesthefox

Just placemarking cause gawd, the receipts are a thing of beauty and, being the optimist that I am, I would love to see the response Grin
I've just caught up and the receipts truly are a sight to behold.

Thanks for all the lovely links @Helleofabore

I'm looking forward to the receipts for the counter argument being posted. I'll wait, in fact I'll join the queue...

SmokedDuck · 30/06/2021 17:43

It is important to debunk this stuff, it's pseudoscientific shite. But the kind of stuff kids like my daughter aren't able to see for what it is yet.

But even if it was all true, this kind of statistic is completely useless. And it is done across a host of issues, women's issues, racial issues, gay and lesbian issues. Unless you can say something about the context, these stats say almost nothing.

Noting a disparity doesn't tell us the cause of the disparity.

Helleofabore · 30/06/2021 17:27

You seem to be saying the same thing in slightly different ways on many threads: why are you even talking about this, stop talking about this

It is clear sometimes that the intention is to aim the pointy finger of shame at the women that won't STFU.

It is also just as clear, that many times activists forget that many posters have teenagers directly affected by things like these misused statistics and the agenda driven by activists keen to ignore the needs of young females - often our children.
