Green Party Women coup

GreenPartyWoman · 27/06/2021 16:27

The Green Party Women's party was co-chaired by a transwoman Kathryn Bristow (fae/fae) and a woman Emma Bateman. Emma has been suspended for alleged transphobia.

Kathryn has now taken over, calling themselves the Chair and removing the rights of women to organise and discuss women's matters on the Green Party forum. Kathryn has gone so far as to delete all previous posts.

Their statement:
"Over the last week I have tried to find a way to moderate this space in compliance with the Equality Act. Unfortunately I can't see a way of doing this that the 100 or so users of this space would be happy with and that wouldn't take a lot of my or someone else's time. While we have to look after the interests of 10,000’s Green Party members.
So sadly I have had to lock the ability of uses to post and comment on this space. I've also deleted all recent posts on the space by users, to ensure that we are complaint with the law in a way that makes no judgement on any one post.
I have to bring it up with the rest of the committee but my feeling is that is space will become a one way commutation tool from the committee to the membership.
More updates will be made soon.

Kathryn Bristow, Chair of Green Party Women"

I don't even know where to go with this, except that this seems to be almost like a totalitarian coup.

Hi
I am glad to hear that other green party members are staying to fight - we need you!
Though I completely understand why people leave, and I have friends who have had enough and packed it in - we are still friends.

If members do want to help, one thing they can do is take an interest and tell other members about the upcoming Green Party Executive elections - we need to get good people into positions where they can make a difference inside the party.

I see that @HonestyCounts97 has put recommendations of who to vote for and I agree with her assessment of Julia , Rashid & Dzaier (job share), Taymar and Zoe.

If people want news of hustings etc, they can sign up to the green feminist mailing list. The ballot opens in august.
And if people are feeling brave, start talking to your local green party groups about this issue, because most members are still not aware of what our policies are.

In addition, Green party members can join the alternative women's space (if you can navigate the members site) .

We are a friendly group of women, despite what the TRA's say!
Thanks
Emma

Alternative women's space for green party members
(552) 1 Woman - Green Party...women - alternative - Green Party Members Website

PickUpAPepper · 03/07/2021 11:43

The Green Party are my natural home but I can't support this madness. I find support for 'no debate' tactics particularly disappointing from the party that, when I knew it, was against the use of whips and wanted to support a multiplicity of voices (as long as they could assume wealth, but that's another argument).

HonestyCounts97 · 03/07/2021 10:49

The list is hear and if you do some good searching you can see who is in the anti women lot so dont vote for them. The good ones from there social media and other things they done, are Julia Lagoutte Rashid Nix Taymar Pitman Zoe Hatch VOTE FOR THEM IF YOUR A MEMBER Vicks and John Not are not obvious what they believe about TRAs - and the only ones in there categorys.

No vote from me.

@Flapjak

A man, chair of the Greens Womens party, isnt allowing women to speak. I dont know how the women in the Green Party can bare it.
The most likely have been through university and infected with the intersectionality bug, that's why they can bare it. I have never spoken to anyone that buys this bullshit and treats it like a religion that hasn't got those two things in common.

@cervixuser

I'm a Green party member and am practically on fire with this latest piece of shit. I refuse to leave the Party and am going to fight these fuckers as much as I can. This IS the hill I will die on. I will be grateful for all help and advice
I could have written this myself, every word and emotion.

One of the many frustrations in all of this is that so many GPEW members are still unaware of the nightmare and also which candidates for election (including the one coming up right now) are on the side of women's rights or are determined to throw us under a bus.

We need this information to be disseminated as widely as possible and I'd like to ask everyone to help if they are able.

cervixuser · 01/07/2021 20:39
@cervixuser good for you are lots leaving? can you get them to stop leaving and stay and sort it.. it would be so sad if the party dyes the planet needs saved and i dont think the other partys care really
I think quite a few women have had enough but there are enough of us who will stay and fight this

Emma, you rock. Your comment made me laugh out loud. If anyone can fight this nonsense you sound like you'd be the woman for the job.

Abhannmor · 01/07/2021 15:16

So glad you are staying to fight this insidious nonsense. Flowers

saltedcaramelchocolate · 01/07/2021 14:48

@letterem

Hi , I have just seen this thread from Facebook, and thought I would say thanks for the support from commenters. I am still suspended from the green party, and the complaint against me for asking 'are trans women female?' is yet to be heard, and won't be heard until at least the end of July.

I know some people cannot understand why I, and other women , would stay in the green party and put up with this nonsense, but I am an environmentalist. Climate change is as real as sexual dimorphism, and it needs addressing urgently. There is no other party talking about climate change enough, and I absolutely refuse to let a bunch of arrogant misogynists and women who would sell their grandmothers for a pat on the head from any Tim, Dick or Harry (because they have so little idea of the true value of grandmothers), destroy the party.

The complaint against me was brought by two green party women committee members, who have both done exactly what they said they were going to do, which was to take green party women in a new direction. I might suggest that direction is downhill, but I am sure others would have a different opinion (if there was anywhere left for members to voice that opinion, of course).

I am prevented from using the members space, though it appears now there is little point in using it anyway, as green party women members have been barred from commenting or posting in their own space, but I (and many others) are entirely unsurprised at the recent turn of events.
To launch one young man with a penchant for silencing women into the sacred untouchable caste may be regarded as a misfortune. To do it twice looks like carelessness.

Anyhow, I just thought I would say that much to the disappointment of some , I am still Rowling,Rowling, Rowling (but not rolling over), however, it would be unwise for me to comment further on what is happening to green party women, as no doubt the likes of Dick Filth and his ilk are lurking here ready to report unruly green sisters at the drop of a bonnet.

Emma (still co-chair of green party women despite rumours to the contrary).

Fantastic 💪💪💪
MidClrgs · 01/07/2021 14:42

Emma thanks for coming here to write this. If only for your clever prose "no doubt the likes of Dick Filth and his ilk are lurking here ready to report unruly green sisters at the drop of a bonnet". Caused a snort in my office. Luckily we're social distancing.

Kudos to you for setting out the reasons why you are staying in the Green Party. I hope you have encouraged more women who've read the above to do the same and to use their voices to vote with in internal elections.

I also echo those who'd suggested raising a complaint (would it be a judicial review if it's a review of party policy which is against the Law?). I would definitely get my spade out.

Bollockstothat · 01/07/2021 14:30

Solidarity Emma, and huge respect for not letting the dickheads shut you up.

Tesla73 · 01/07/2021 14:18

Glinner has mentioned this on his substack

Mumfun · 01/07/2021 14:17

Solidarity Emma! I do think you would get a lot of support for legal action.

The important fact about these cuckoos in the Green nest is that they don't care about real Green policies. We can see this from Aimee Challenor who jumped to Lib Dems, then Warrens campaign then ? . Their policy is to promote themselves, promote transgenderism and destroy anything of womans rights that they can. Plus grift in any way that they can on the way. Just shocking that top leadership keeps letting them do this.

HonestyCounts97 · 01/07/2021 14:12

@letterem crowd fund legal like @Bluowl said.

HonestyCounts97 · 01/07/2021 14:01

@letterem please dont give up hope your are inspiration and we need you to make it better again because the planet needs saved and women need to be able to be safe in there spaces. its not rite to block you from youre roll and if they want my votes they need to put you back and say sorry

PartridgeFeather · 01/07/2021 08:55

There was stupid naive little me still voting for the Greens and thinking they were interested in actual green issues.

Sorry but I don't have time to do a degree in gender studies just so I can understand what the hell happened to my last viable voting option.

Datun · 01/07/2021 08:45

@Bluowl

Best of luck Emma, the law is clearly on your side so it seems very odd you are still suspended. If you wanted to take legal action sure many would support a crowd funder. I would.
Seconded.

The Green Party is mad to centre gender politics. Many more people are worried about climate change and the environment than ever before.

Concentrating on reality rather than ideology would benefit them far more.

JackieWeaversZoomAc · 01/07/2021 08:26

This is the natural consequences of adopting the TWAW mantra. We know TW aren't W & one of the ways we know is TW aren't women is they get bonus rights women don't get.

Add "no debate" to TWAW and everyone leaves their brains at the door.

Good luck with fighting this Emma. So many women are supporting you.

somethinginoffensive · 01/07/2021 07:23

I am still suspended from the green party, and the complaint against me for asking 'are trans women female?' is yet to be heard, and won't be heard until at least the end of July.

It's incredible that a party that is trying to bring people's attention to the reality of what we are doing to our environment cannot just answer that question as "no".

Bristow is bringing the party into disrepute both via their job and their behaviour within the women's group.

Have any journalists picked up on this case? Would a letter writing campaign to the leadership help?

WarriorN · 01/07/2021 06:56

Emma 💪 ⭐️ we are behind you.

I'm still a member and joined last year. Not going anywhere.

Within my feminist terven circles it's the Green Party that the majority are members of, broadly for the climate change reasons you describe.

AgathaMystery · 30/06/2021 23:58

Sending strength & solidarity Emma.
