I think this will cause all decent Trans people shame rather than pride.

then, yes, I don't care which group it is, the other people in the group should speak up about it

A lot of people won't know anything about what a handful of randomers with disgusting slogans are doing at the same event though.

Quaggars · 27/06/2021 00:52

Inconvenient 'whats' like truth, do you mean? 'Woman: adult human female'? Sorry, but I fail to see any equivalence between that and exhortations to kill, and particularly to kill a specific, named woman

Definitely wasn't trying to equate stickers with such as killing a named woman, far from it, would never do that - if you read my comment you'll see I said anyone doing that is vile.

ArcheryAnnie · 27/06/2021 00:46

@Quaggars

Where are the spokespeople for the trans community speaking out against the violence?

Why should they, though?
Don't get me wrong, these signs are disgusting and have no place anywhere.
They don't speak for the majority though.
Would you say "where are the people speaking out" if this was aimed at any other marginalised, minority, or discriminated against group?

Yes, I would say this. If people you are associating with (by, for example, going on a march with them) are holding placards wishing for someone's death then, yes, I don't care which group it is, the other people in the group should speak up about it.

When I saw this earlier I came to mumsnet thinking there should be a thread, but found this one had been already started.

I would have liked it to have been titled "Threats to kill JK Rowlings on Trans Pride March" because it should be made a public as possible (and google loves mumsnet!

It doesn't matter what % of the march were carrying these messages.

They are public threats of violence against a woman. No one surrounding those carrying them tried to get them taken down, nor have the march organisers (as far as I know) publicly condemned them.

It is absolutely disgusting and unacceptable. Why these need to give them a free pass?

Why is any one think it doesn't matter. Threats of violence against women being made publicly are becoming more and more common.

We would condemn it in any other context.

Those who created the signs should be identifies and visited by the police, and anyone who shares them on social media should be banned.

rabbitwoman · 27/06/2021 00:35

I won't post a link to pink news - but have a look at munroe bergdoff's speech from the march earlier today.

She had a real chance to condone the violence and abuse and death threats and advocate for healthy, fair debate. But.... She didn't...

@Nellodee

You know what would help? Supporters of trans people telling those within their ranks who threaten rape and violence, “You do not represent us, we do not condone your actions.” That would go down a lot better than , “Only a few of us threaten to rape and kill you, so I don’t know why you keep going on about it, really.”
This needs posting again. I think some people must have missed it.
theThreeofWeevils · 27/06/2021 00:28

It's the whole what can be behind it
Inconvenient 'whats' like truth, do you mean? 'Woman: adult human female'? Sorry, but I fail to see any equivalence between that and exhortations to kill, and particularly to kill a specific, named woman. Which is something the police really ought to be following up. Not holding my breath.

Stickers too don't forget!

See, I get accused of being "disegenous" on here.
This totally is though.
"What's so wrong about a female, sticking a sticker saying they're female?
It's the whole what can be behind it that people stick their fingers in their ears and go la la la to that's Hmm

Thelnebriati · 27/06/2021 00:13

Why is even a 'very small minority' of violent placards acceptable to the organisers of the march?

And BADGES! Shock Sometimes there's even a poem or a quote!

There will be some equally terrible people on the other side of the fence

Yeah, I mean, those ribbons..... Absolutely terrifying....

@EmergencyHydrangea

There are always extreme dumbasses at every protest
But these aren't "extreme" for this crowd - that kind of rhetoric is mainstream for the gender identity believers (most of whom have not read what JKR wrote, but revel in being allowed to hate her as a woman anyway).
BlackeyedSusan · 26/06/2021 22:01

Gosh that is an awfully big minority there...

Tinysalmonswimminginastream · 26/06/2021 21:47

'IT'S A TINY MINORITY'...

I don't believe it helps the GC case to demonise an entire group due to the behaviour of a few

It is blatantly obvious it is not a few. Women are hounded, harassed and abused all over social media by TRAs and their allies, ask Jess de Wahls I am sure she will be delighted to share with you the many, many death threats and abusive messages she has received from this somewhat large small minority that have been targeting her non-stop since 2019 and then ask her how many of this mythical majority of well meaning people in the real world on the TRA side have stood up for her, supported her and/or condemned those sending the abuse, I'll give you a clue the figure is somewhere between zero and nil.

Jess is only one of a whole list of women who are subjected to this bullying you seriously think the level of co-ordinated and concerted attacks are being done by a very small minority of people, dream on.

Waitwhat23 · 26/06/2021 21:41

Every time I hear someone say 'it's a tiny minority', I think of the hundreds of examples on www.terfisaslur.com.

There has always been a small minority of people who vocally despise women, with a silent demographic who hold the same views but weren't vocal about it. The demonisation of women by gender ideology has given those people a chance to acceptably air those views, knowing that the targets of their ire can be silenced by the cry of 'transphobe'.

BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 26/06/2021 21:23

in the same week Transwidows voices received death threats on twitter for giving women a platform to talk about the abuse they've suffered

both sides?

aye, right

HowdenMinster · 26/06/2021 21:22

Yeah, that's horrible. Death threats are never acceptable. It's a shame, because most of the photos I have seen from today have been a wonderful, joyous celebration of support for the transcommunity.
