I think this will cause all decent Trans people shame rather than pride.

@Nellodee

You know what would help? Supporters of trans people telling those within their ranks who threaten rape and violence, “You do not represent us, we do not condone your actions.” That would go down a lot better than , “Only a few of us threaten to rape and kill you, so I don’t know why you keep going on about it, really.”
And when you do get people in the trans community calling out the creeps, (and encouraging others to do so) they get harassed and threatened too, which is just lovely. Hmm Can any of the trans allies here explain that one please? Funnily enough, I don't know anyone on the rad fem/GC side who's sent death threats to anybody, it's more stickers, ribbons and crocheted flowers over here (and the occasional meme.)

[quote EndoplasmicReticulum]Saw this linked to from Facebook, report from Dazed Digital. Shows one of the signs according to writer of the piece their "personal favourite" was the heart shaped one.

@NiceGerbil @EndoplasmicReticulum Interesting, that focus on safety in relation to this group. The writer seems to have a different attitude when it comes to biological women: I've just looked at their twitter and several of their recent pieces are actually opposing various safeguarding measures being introduced around the sex/porn industry, and, in the aftermath of the murder of Sarah Everard, articles opposing making misogyny a hate crime, opposing 'overpolicing and criminalisation' and police in nightclubs as a measure to prevent the sexual harassment of women (the writer puts the word protect in inverted commas).

RedDogsBeg · 01/07/2021 10:35

most people made remarks on how important trans healthcare is, and how dangerous waiting lists are”, while there were also “a lot of (calls to) ‘protect trans lives’ and ‘protect trans kids’.” “Overall, we all want to be considered and treated as priority

In their very own words, don't want equal treatment or the same rights, must have more rights than anyone else and be treated as a priority.

2. Divinity. Again saying trans people are like angels, or saints. The divine. What's with all this religious stuff?

The sacred caste is above criticism.

somethinginoffensive · 01/07/2021 08:06

The one on the left has a sign saying "legalize my identity" so I assume they are "non-binary" as that is merely a self-description not a legal identity of any sort.

Two things jumped out.

Excellent post, NiceGerbil

NiceGerbil · 01/07/2021 01:26

Point 2.

The photo at the beginning.

Is that how women and girls dress when on a march about.. VAWG for example?

And the poses?

How many women fighting for rights/ change pose and dress like that? When they are making a serious point?

And if they are (I assume) trans women (?). Then why has one got no top on? For a woman that is considered indecent and you can be arrested.

In short. If they are women (again that's an assumption) then why does everything seem very very unusual for women in a march for rights?

(Yes I know some issues etc women go for that look etc. But it seems to be a look that is pretty popular in general for some groups).

I read it.

Two things jumped out.

  1. '“Being a trans+ person and visibly gender non-conforming, the streets can feel very unsafe,” says Eddie. “It’s a feeling I have unfortunately become very accustomed to. Little things like crossing the road to avoid dangerous situations, shouts, stares, and (micro) agressions are so normal in my life that I don’t even really notice them anymore. So it was a humbling, beautiful experience to be surrounded by thousands of trans+ people, and to feel so seen and safe – each one of us protecting and validating the other, transferring the strength needed to be ourselves in a cis society where our very existance is up for debate.”'

This drives me mad. The feeling unsafe when out and about, the defensive behaviour, the stares, harrassment etc.

Well. That's what women and girls get all the time. The tone deaf nature of things like that quote really grinds my gears.

And the fact that people who are GNC but don't identify as trans, and people who are seen as different. Get this as well.

And the fact the majority of it comes from men.

No awareness or empathy or tact...

And then yeah it was brilliant being with people like me, feeling safe and welcome etc...

???

But women and girls, who get loads of shit from men, are not allowed to have spaces just for us. We have to let others in on their say so. It's bigoted to want to have anything just for women up to and including mixed changing, support groups, book clubs, you name it.

How can people like this who I expect is perfectly nice, have such a massive blind spot?

toffeebutterpopcorn · 30/06/2021 07:23

Joyful death threats... Uhuh.

Thanks stumbled.

One of my friends has liked it! A lovely woman I know IRL not an old mate or whatever.

And she is very solid on women's issues globally we agree about s lot.

Anyway. I found what I was after so thanks :)

stumbledin · 29/06/2021 18:43

I think trans pride in london is only a facebook page www.facebook.com/londontranspride

toffeebutterpopcorn · 29/06/2021 13:28

Reminds me of the photo... daft ‘I’m queer don’t fire me’ female actor and person in red dress .

RedDogsBeg · 29/06/2021 13:15

Nice photo with Munroe Bergdorf (who looks rather uncomfortable) there.

Munroe Bergdorf looks extremely uncomfortable in that photo, body language and facial expression is screaming "get away from me", I doubt Munroe has any idea of the background to this person but is certainly picking up bad vibes from them.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 29/06/2021 10:20

How else would this person end up with their photo being taken along glam model types at these events?

PaleGreenGhost · 29/06/2021 09:09

@Ereshkigalangcleg

Ah. So the sign that said 'Kill JK Rowling' was made and carried by a prisoner who was in for 30 years for attempted murder.

How completely astonishing. That's definitely the most surprising thing I've heard today.

What I can't understand is how do people who identify as nice keep pushing on with this particular type of trans activism even when it is obvious that it provides cover for violent males to incite more violence? Why don't they stop and think, hmm, I really care about trans people but this is abhorrent. There must be another way to make sure trans people don't face discrimination?

Isn't this just what reasonable people do all the time in life? Love meat but eat less because they see the harm of the meat and dairy industry? Love the convenience of driving their kid to swimming but walk to cut down on pollution? Love being warm but buy fake not real fur? I honestly don't know anyone who hasn't modified their approach to something over the years in the face of overwhelming evidence of harm to others.

NiceGerbil · 29/06/2021 01:50

Still looking for info about something!

The trans pride in London 2021 Twitter has their website as pride in London but I can't find any mention of the trans pride event on the site. Confused

NiceGerbil · 29/06/2021 01:45

Was just googling around to find some info.

Loads of articles etc.

Anyway the independent had this in it's piece:

'Another protester says, “It actually makes me quite upset when I see that not everyone in the community is standing up for trans rights. I think as a cisgender, gold star lesbian, I can recognise that I have a lot of privileges against other people in the community.'

I'm not a lesbian but. I'm surprised at a woman describing herself as gold star to s random reporter.

If there are any lesbians who I dunno, are familiar with, well. Whether that is s thing these days to say to in general / to people you don't know. That would be interesting.

I can't imagine any of the women I knew back in the 90s saying that! Or even whether it was a commonly understood thing..?

ScreamingMeMe · 28/06/2021 23:42

Mermaids have actually said they have spoken to their volunteer.

"Hello Anya. This tweet is from one of our many volunteers who we have contacted this afternoon. As a charity supporting many young victims of abuse, harassment and bullying, we do not condone or encourage physical or verbal violence under any circumstances."

More seriously impressive detective work from the GC crew on twitter.

@ArabellaScott

Ah. So the sign that said 'Kill JK Rowling' was made and carried by a prisoner who was in for 30 years for attempted murder.

Hoping the police are already aware.

Shock
NiceGerbil · 28/06/2021 22:57

I think for a lot of people it's maybe all online so they don't see it as 'real life' iyswim.

NiceGerbil · 28/06/2021 22:52

Anyway long post sorry.

Some of the people who are red hot keen on this ARE violent misogynists, ARE sex offenders. Convicted rapists and murderers.

To turn a blind eye to this, to the constant rape and death threats on twitter, to encourage the absolute demonisation of women who disagree.

They are playing with fire. I'm genuinely worried where this will end.

I'm sure somehow it will be our own fault though.

When MB died, that dancing on a grave gif from a high profile campaigner for sports on self ID.

And loads of normal people either don't know or don't care.

NiceGerbil · 28/06/2021 22:48

What bothers me about this, and I don't know if this will get deleted.

Is the whole reversal thing and also that I worry if all of this is going to result in something awful.

The story spread and consumed and God knows why apparently believed (???!!!) -

Is that in the UK a bunch of generally middle aged, mainly long term lefty types, including plenty with children, and including women who are lesbian, black, and in any case are usually GNC whether in appearance, personality, views, in various combinations.

Are being funded by the American religious right (!!), or maybe it's nationalist orgs, sometimes maybe both...!
Are being manipulated because women don't think for themselves... Or maybe are working towards some other evil goal (unspecified).
Oh and the sort of men who go around beating up LGBT+ people are doing it because they are listening to us...(running out of question marks)

That is apparently completely likely. Oh and we actually want various types of people including children to be brutally murdered.

I can't understand why people buy this (misogyny - and women who don't really care about female socialisation / male approval any more are just awful. Why aren't they talking about ironing boards and stuff?).

Meanwhile

There have been a fair few incidents where prominent people who strongly advocate for self-identity and opening up anything previously for women.
Have turned out to be a bit iffy.
To say the least. I mean yes there's dodgy people in all groups. But when it's iffy sexual behaviour combined with a mission to let anyone into prisons hosps communal changing etc that is labelled women, then it's got to be a worry.

There have been bomb threats irl
A conviction for assault
The incidents in women's prisons
The incident/s in secure women's MH facilities
Someone who worked as a police officer recently convicted for having bomb making equipment and there's a video of them taking a baseball bat to a pic of Germaine Greer iirc (police could not find any political motive... Hmm)

And now someone who has been in prison for 30 years 'for the attempted murder of another prisoner after being imprisoned for kidnapping and torturing her stepmother’s brother'.

No one thinks all trans people are iffy. Not on here. (Again, violent men may be the ones to look at for this).

But it's completely bizarre to say no trans person does anything dodgy as well.
