mumsnet have moved one of my threads without permission and effectivelly instructed us how we may or may not discuss things.

I started a thread on the newsnight programme from last night about the man eventually convicted of killing two women after years of police failure.

For reason known only to the irrational concepts of mumsnet they have moved it to the "chat" board.

This is on one level just plain daft as there is already a thread on there about this, so there didn't need to be another.

But I specifically chose to have it on this thread as this is more likely to be where women who understand about women's sex based oppression post and I wanted to interact with them.

On one level this is political censorship. They created the division so they will have to live with them.

Hosting a board does NOT entitle you to tell those using the service how to think.

So not only have they falsely labelled this board a debate about something none of us are talking about (gender) they are now, with out having the gumption to even spell it out, taking secret decisions about what is or is not appropriate.

mumsnet seems to have suddenly decided that because the board is popular means that what they think is right think. Whereas what makes it popular are the posters.

This is like those facebook groups where the group admins suddently go power mad and think they because they are the admin they are also the holder of all true thought.

This is like the interns have taken over from the adults.

Did you state reality based facts?

It could have been that.

Coyoacan · 26/06/2021 13:36

It's madness to move threads against the wishes of the poster.

I got a post that did not break the rules arbitrarily deleted yesterday.

Leafstamp · 26/06/2021 13:24

Oh yes, of course! Not doing too well after a sub 4-hour sleep last night.

Fishdoggy · 26/06/2021 12:16

Twitter my lovely. x

Leafstamp · 26/06/2021 11:37

Pardon my ignorance but what’s the blue bird site @Fishdoggy?

Thank you for your uplifting post btw.

DaisiesandButtercups · 26/06/2021 11:36

Fishdoggy Grin

The schism gives mischief makers a whole new world of entertainment getting threads moved, policing the boards checking what is said where but you are right too and the uplifting encouragement is much appreciated. Star

ArabellaScott · 26/06/2021 11:31

A guid cause maks a strong arm.

Fishdoggy · 26/06/2021 11:28

#WomenWontWjeesht. Just found this via the blue bird site. I don't visit here often but those emailing Aunt Lydia, Elizabeth and EYE types are not going to get rid of clear thinking brave women. We're everywhere and our voices have been heard. Politicians are listening and the grass root groups formed are strong. I believe the fight for Women's Rights has not been as strong in 100 years. We are invincible and our anger and meticulous organisation skills will win this fight. Never lose heart ladies. x

Leafstamp · 26/06/2021 10:38

Sometimes it feels like this is all done to wear us down and undermine us so that we’ll give up and go away.

Been feeling a bit like that lately but have decided I definitely won’t be giving up nor going away.

@ArabellaScott

Well, I posted a thread in 'Feminism Chat' and got attacked by several posters (new posters, funnily enough, who had little posting history) who said it was 'their board' now and gc posters weren't welcome.

Not very in the spirit, if you ask me.

This

I am not interested in spending my precious little time in such a hostile environment and have pretty much given up on “the other place”. Also CBA to check multiple boards.

I think that there is possibly some social engineering going on here. Some people somewhere are concerned that this place is going to be dominant just as feminist chat was previously and the other board will be rarely frequented just like feminist theory, activism and the others ended up being. That is off, let each board stand or fall on its own merits.

It really does seem that certain posters are particularly being targeted.

MNHQ will change titles if they feel like it when they move threads. It just depends to what level of authoritarianism and social control they are willing to go to. So I am not sure there is anything that can be put in titles to keep them here in Feminism: sex versus gender.

Sometimes it feels like this is all done to wear us down and undermine us so that we’ll give up and go away.

WoolOfBat · 26/06/2021 10:00

I just wanted to chip in and say that I don’t feel that Stumbledin has referred to me as a child in any way.

I am also really curious about all these emails whistfulwistera, you keep coming back to them?

ScreamingMeMe · 26/06/2021 09:53

@RufustheBadgeringReindeer

And i agree with turquoise and i agree that stumbled did not compare us to children in any way shape or form

Just while I’m here…

Same.

It feels to me like certain posters are being targeted and having their threads reported and moved back and forth.

This absolutely happens. Some posters seem to have more posts deleted than others in an attempt to get them banned. There are a couple of posters at the moment who clearly have their cards marked, it's so depressing that MN allow themselves to be played this way.

FemaleAndLearning · 26/06/2021 09:18

It feels to me like certain posters are being targeted and having their threads reported and moved back and forth. I was shocked by the hostility in the new feminist chat by posters bemoaning these certain posters. I think the disrupters are using the split as a tactic to derail certain posters and their threads. I enjoy and value the posts and threads from those certain posters but the Twit mob have them marked.
I think the idea about putting woman (adult human female) in thread titles should ensure it stays on sex and gender. I won't get bored of that or find it off putting it gives 100% clarity.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 26/06/2021 08:46

I think we're more likely to get pigeons, sealions and other assorted visiting wildlife here now, because we've been sectioned off so they know where to find us.

allmywhat · 26/06/2021 08:40

Well, one bonus of the new arrangements... maybe we will no longer get visited by the series of weird condescending faux-experts with delusions of intelligence that used to drop in to FWR, pretend some kind of subject matter expertise relevant or irrelevant to the discussion at hand in order to instruct the women how to think, pigeon chess things up and then eventually disappear again only for a different username to come back with the same behaviour. It will be nice to be shot of that! Those usernames were a right PITA.

CuntAmongstThePigeons · 26/06/2021 03:46

I also don't understand. I thought the whole point was we who wanted a sex based analysis of women's oppression had been siphoned off to whichever side street had been nominated.

So why then does the thread get moved even when its been created in the 'safe zone!'

ItsLateHumpty · 26/06/2021 01:48

A board specialising in the debate we demanded (and I include myself in that) now exists.

Who’s the ‘we’ here, because I don’t remember any of the FWR regulars even asking for a new board, let alone demanding one.

In fact I’d go as far as to say most FWR regulars didn’t even know that the decision had been made. There was no discussion / FWR user buy in requested by management.

Whistfulwisteria · 26/06/2021 00:46

Are you, Whistfulwisteria one of the people who Justine advised us of who had been corresponding by email about issues with this forum?

No

Cailleach1 · 26/06/2021 00:27

Yes. The sex & gender thread is like a thread entitled 'Science and Religion'.

Science (sex): Sydenham's Chorea is a neurological autoimmune disorder characterised by involuntary jerking motions and is caused by a Streptococcal infection.

Then religion comes in: No it is really St Vitus dance and people are dancing around involuntarily because they are possessed. How dare you mention bacteria, you possession deniers!!

Along comes Mumsnet, and the 'Willie Worshippers' who spy on us and any hateful scientific facts: Be kind and don't point out the superstitious nonsense is nonsense. Possession is a view worthy of respect. Science is so bigoted. Facts are not worthy of respect.

PurpleHoodie · 26/06/2021 00:16

Feminism. For females.

Are we missing something here?

To quote one email we received this morning, ‘There is definitely a sense that Feminism Chat is only a place to discuss gender critical feminism. Any posts which question GCism get flooded with hundreds of hostile responses. Which might be more fair if MN was an explicitly GC site, but it portrays itself as a space for all feminism.’

NotBadConsidering · 26/06/2021 00:04

@Whistfulwisteria

Freud definitely wasn't alive when email was invented.
Ok, let’s skip the Freudian element and skirting around the question and ask it directly:

Are you, Whistfulwisteria one of the people who Justine advised us of who had been corresponding by email about issues with this forum?

PurpleHoodie · 25/06/2021 23:51

why didn't they just create a new url / web link called Feminism Debate

Really, really good point.
