This is a violent, transphobic hate crime and I utterly condemn these men who attacked 21 year old Ruan Filipe in Bournemouth earlier this month.

Yes no doubt these scumbags are ardent feminists. Hmm

Erikrie · 25/06/2021 12:49

It reads to me as if this was an attempted kidnapping, and attempted rape.

It does to me as well. Utterly horrific.

PurpleHoodie · 25/06/2021 12:49

Indeed.

Erikrie · 25/06/2021 12:48

What role do you think the constant anti-trans rhetoric of "gender critical" feminists played in this attack?

None. Stop framing women's rights as anti trans. It's innacurate and harmful to everyone. Think about that for once.
This is male violence. Women are not responsible for the violence of men.

Have you washed the blood off your hands yet?

Grow up.

PurpleHoodie · 25/06/2021 12:48

Bournemouth

PurpleHoodie · 25/06/2021 12:47

Very worrying that there is at least one group of men on the prowl in the Bournmouth area and it is not being highlighted in local press/news. The police should be putting out their descriptions (including car)

Are you seriously this stupid or just maliciously misleading? The people that attack trans people are MEN. Violent men. And it is abhorrent. But just to be clear, said violent men aren't really the type to listen to GC/radical or any other kind of feminist. We are not responsible for the crimes of men.

ArabellaScott · 25/06/2021 12:40

Horrible to read. And yes, more should be done to find who did this. If nothing else, shouldn't the police be putting out warnings that a violent gang is on the streets?

OhHolyJesus · 25/06/2021 12:38

I don't understand this, it is badly written:

"This was not the first time that Ruan had been the victim of a transphobia attack — it had already been in Portugal and England. This time, he went to the police, but ended up not pressing charges."

So one attack in Portugal and a second in Bournemouth, England. Why did Ruan decide not to press charges? As a group of men have carried out a violent attack I would hope that the police would do what it required to find and prosecute them. Perhaps there wasn't enough evidence, no CCTV etc or they are known but the evidence meet the threshold by the CPS?

This article doesn't provide enough information in my opinion. I'm surprised there isn't another more credible article, I would expect the BBC to cover this, if only locally.

AfternoonToffee · 25/06/2021 12:35

What a horrific attack, I am very concerned that this will go the way of many others where nothing is done until it has escalated into the death of someone.

Helleofabore · 25/06/2021 12:31

This is a horrific attack.

It is transphobic, but I think there is plenty of potential for Ryan to be have targeted for multiple reasons including rape. I hope that Ryan is ok and that they get the support they need and those responsible get a hefty punishment.

AssassinatedBeauty · 25/06/2021 12:30

Because they are massively underfunded, understaffed and riddled with having to make political policing decisions to please central govt and P&CCs.

Jaxhog · 25/06/2021 12:28

This is terrible. The cynic in me would say that the police would have taken it far more seriously if it had been a transwoman.

I wondered this too. It's an appalling crime and the police lack of action appalling too.

(I do object to the use of the term 'trans-sexual' though. You can't change sex, only gender)

Blackopal · 25/06/2021 12:23

I understand that without CCTV etc it is difficult to try to prosecute. However, what happened to investigating violent crime? What happened in the days before CCTV etc?

The police are supposed to protect, why is our enforcement so lethargic when it comes to crimes like this? Groups of armed men can attack people in this way and nothing can be done at all?

ScreamingMeMe · 25/06/2021 12:21

@IAmAWomanNotACis

"I do wish people wouldn't bite. Or quote their disgusting posts."

It's a fair cop. Stepping away from the internet for a bit. Flowers

Oh I know it's not easy. That first post was absolutely vile
ErrolTheDragon · 25/06/2021 12:19

@yeahbutnaw

Anti-trans violence is an anti-trans problem.
Yes. Not a women's rights or feminism problem.

IAmAWomanNotACis · 25/06/2021 12:17

"Anti-trans violence is an anti-trans problem."

That's a nice soundbyte but it doesn't stand up to even the lightest bit of scrutiny does it?

Gender critical feminism is skeptical about whether the best treatment for gender dysphoria is puberty blockers, cross sex hormones, sterilization and other invasive surgical procedures, and the erosion of women's rights. We are skeptical about if all people (specifically adult men) who claim to be trans actually have gender dysphoria. We are passionate about upholding women's rights.

What we're not doing:

  • Inciting violence, carrying out violence, or causing men to be violent. Violent men are doing that.
  • Posting rape and death threats to people who don't agree with our points of view, and trying to get them sacked. TRAs are doing that.
Tuberoses · 25/06/2021 12:14

Shocking. Nobody should have to suffer violence for any reason.

EyesOpening · 25/06/2021 12:10

I'm guessing though that MVAWG isn't the fault of all those TRAs who post pictures of guns and baseball bats and call for rape and murder.

ScreamingMeMe · 25/06/2021 12:09

@Tesla73

Methinks a certain someone isn't getting enough attention on Twitter so thought they'd come and disrupt the adults talking
I do wish people wouldn't bite. Or quote their disgusting posts.
Blackopal · 25/06/2021 12:09

yeahbutnaw
Oh just fuck off, men's horrific violence is not the fault of women.

I am a 'GC feminist'. I have never hurt a soul, I have never said , or felt, anything hateful towards trans people.

Needing your own boundaries to be respected is not hate.

Mens violence is not women's fault but trying to make it appear so is hateful, imo. Same old shit.

Why are you not angry at the men who carried out this horrendous attack, or the lack of robust response from the police?
I expect coming on here to blame women is easier and gives you a warm feeling? Again, same old shit.

I hope Ruan is recovering well.

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 25/06/2021 12:09

Hopefully Ruan is ok and has support

Such a dreadful thing to happen

Bryonyshcmyony · 25/06/2021 12:09

It's not in the Bournemouth Echo either which is odd.

ANewCreation · 25/06/2021 12:06

This was first reported apparently in something called Publico, a Portuguese news source. And picked up by Pink news but I can't see it in any MSM yet.

Think it's described as an attack with 'knives and knives with blades' - maybe this is a translation of a Portuguese term - but I don't think a gun was involved.
