Joan of Arc was trans????

It's Schools Diversity Week this week. There has been no mention of any kind of diversity other than LGBTQIA+. Heavy on the T. We've been reminded every day for weeks about this.

Today's update says Joan of Arc was trans because she didn't dress like a woman. There's even a discussion on the pronouns she (sorry, he/they) would have used. Silly me, I though Joan was just a woman who was fed up with the limitations her sex imposed on her. Clearly short hair + trousers = man.

I'm all for showing young people a diverse range of role models, but transing people who lived several hundred years ago is not all that helpful.

Still, think of all the powerful and famous people who were really women. Not just most popes - look at Charles II. Long hair, tights, frills, heels, heavy on the blusher. Woman!

Joan of Arc was trans????
MrsBunHat · 23/06/2021 16:25

FFS that's outrageous.

Yes because a woman can't be a knight, have short hair or fight for her passionate cause - must be a man. Sexist, offensive bullshit and not all that "diverse" either.

I try not to be "that" parent. But if this happened at my school I would That Parent them into next week.

George Eliot was trans for using a male pseudonym?

There is already a TRA doing just that, think it was the one who described women as little more than passive receivers of sex and domestic workhorses.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 23/06/2021 16:14

Surely posthumous transing is transphobic, I thought we weren't supposed to assume anyone's gender or pronouns.

Posthumous transing is a big thing - got to show that trans people have always existed.

@Bollindger

How twisted. A female who was so religious and patriotic and was convinced God was speaking to her, she insipred her king to fight for his crown. She donned armour to fight, not to dress like a boy.
All this.

And when she was put on trial, it was for witchcraft (if I remember rightly). At least ostensibly.

Down the centuries men have been tried and convicted of witchcraft but it has been predominantly women. And predominantly women who appeared to be a challenge to the patriarchy in some way (because they were single, and/or outspoken, and/or stood out from "the norm" in some way.)

It's horrifying how school teaching is being twisted to cater for the demands of a very vocal and intolerant minority. Tolerance has to cut both ways. Equality before the law, yes. Bullying all sorts of groups and people into kowtowing to ideology, no.

PattyPan · 23/06/2021 15:51

So awful and offensive. What’s next, Marie curie was trans because physics is for men? George Eliot was trans for using a male pseudonym?

GoingGently · 23/06/2021 15:41

@Bollindger

I did wonder about Pope Joan. I heard the story about a chair the New popes had to sit in, so they could check he was male.
Yes that's true. Of course they'll need a different test these days I suppose.... one that's more about feeeeeeelings or something (what?!)??? The Pope already wears a tiara and a dress so I suppose gender costumes are out! Ooh what to do?! Wink
GoingGently · 23/06/2021 15:39

[quote EmpressWitchDoesntBurn]Bollocks was Joan of Arc trans. It might be worth sharing the DfE guidelines with the school - they’re linked to from here and specifically ban suggesting that how someone dresses etc is linked to gender identity.

The cognitive dissonance is just astounding isn't it? How has this movement not eaten itself yet?

GoingGently · 23/06/2021 15:37

Yes exactly. Corsets and wimples tend to get in the way when skewering men on the battlefield...

Joan of arc is perfect for the TRAs isn't she, you know on account of the martyrdom...

Wait til they cotton on to Pope Joan. She had a baby so will probably be touted as the Seahorse Pope!

RubyGoat · 23/06/2021 15:34

Ridiculous. She was remarkable for doing what she did, while being female. If she'd actually been trans, she'd have made genuine attempts to hide her sex, for a start. (There were cases of women going to war as men & being discovered & sent home. Likewise there were cases of women "living as men" & men "living as women", because they weren't happy with their gender roles in society, & being found out, & publicly humiliated). But she didn't. She wore trousers etc because they were practical. She wore her hair short so it would fit under her helmet in battle. She clearly as much at her trial. She didn't claim to be a man, or anything other than a woman. Except she made a good job of breaking away from the accepted gender roles of the time - she didn't just sit & sew shirts for the men, & wait at home for the invading army to come & rape her in her home. There was a prophecy that a maid would rise & save France; she believed herself to be that maid.

Bollindger · 23/06/2021 15:33

It just accured to me, if transwoman are getting people pregnant, just how is the CS thing going to work...
I should think having to pay maintenance each month for 18 years won't sit well with the them.

Bollindger · 23/06/2021 15:31

Not sure which paper it was in this week, but lots of transmen getting pregnant and most were upset reality had derailed their fantasy life.

RedDogsBeg · 23/06/2021 15:25

@Beowulfa

This is like a parody of itself now.

I would be demanding to know why Diversity Week focuses so heavily on this subject, and not the boring unglamorous one that affects hugely more people in the UK- disability.

Yes disability never gets a look in does it? and as for mental health awareness...tumbleweed, unless of course it is the most oppressed and their fake suicide statistics.

I've seen a picture (admittedly not a photograph) of Charles II with very long hair. Does this mean he/she was a trans then?

Must have been, also wore make-up, must have been a lesbian too but the kind of lesbian that could impregnate other women regularly.

CiaoForNiao · 23/06/2021 15:21

@Whatafool123 I absolutely agree. I couldn't work out how to phrase it now that saying "maybe she actually thought was a boy who was born in the wrong body" isn't correct. Saying she "wanted to be a boy" is probably totally wrong because, as you say, lots of girls go through a phase of wanting to be a boy. I don't think that's the same as being "trans" though.

There must have been trans people historically though mustn't there? As in people "born in the wrong body" (or whatever the correct phrase is). Or people with gender dysphoria.

I'm probably using all the wrong language. But with the way the meaning of words apparently keeps changing I get lost.

GoingGently · 23/06/2021 15:19

FFS please complain about this!!! It is so extremely offensive in so many ways

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 23/06/2021 15:16

Whatafool123 · 23/06/2021 15:15

@CiaoForNiao

I read a wonderful book about Joan of Arc a few years ago. IIRC it was called "The Girl." I wonder if it will now be reprinted as "The transboy" Or maybe "The not girl"

Ffs. Maybe JofA was trans (as in Maybe she really wanted to be a boy). Maybe she wasn't. We can't exactly ask her can we. So instead we'll erase all strong women from history.
Yep. Progress indeed.

I am sure lots of women and girls must have wanted to be boys down the centuries. For the same reason I did in the 70s/80s. There were so many restrictions on what a girl or woman could and couldn't do, whereas boys and men seemed to be allowed to do what they liked, and certainly all the exciting stuff.

Doesn't mean that I or JofA, or any other historical girl or woman, was actually trans in the modern sense.

Deadringer · 23/06/2021 15:15

Well she was brave and stunning so.........

NecessaryScene · 23/06/2021 15:13

Is there any evidence of any historical figures NOT being trans?

RedDogsBeg · 23/06/2021 15:12

The only surprise for me is that it has taking so long to trans Joan of Arc, are they planning to lobby France to change the references to her as the 'Maid of Orleans'?

In TRA world there are no strong women, oh no, they are all trans, it's fucking insulting and I'd lose my temper with any School or indeed person that pushed this misogynistic women erasing bullshit.
