I'm curious. Does anyone here actually like/agree with the new name, 'Sex & gender debate'? I'm interested to see the general consensus and how much support there is here for the name MNHQ have chosen.

Personally, I'd prefer 'Women's Sex-Based Rights' because I come here to post about those, not to have debates about sex and gender. I can't really see how one could have those particular debates here without running afoul of the special language rules, anyway.

If you do like the new name, could you say why? And if not, can you improve on my suggestion?

I tend to lurk (and learn), and have a keen interest in my sex based rights. I'm not too fussed about gender as I don't have one. I feel displaced, which may have been the intention.

I've just started going through threads I've started which have been moved here. I can't work out why some of them have - plain feminist issues. Of course sex is relevant to them eg VAGW .... but if this is meant to be the 'serious feminism board' then why on Earth doesn't it have the word feminism in the title?

Gender and Feminism would be an entirely clear and appropriate name for a board dealing with the relationship between gender and Feminism.

The split is really annoying me. I can't remember what threads are there and keep flicking between the two. It's meaning I am spending twice as much time 'checking' for new threads. And I already spend way too much time on mn as it is. Can I request everyone just posts here for ease anyway, since all threads will concern sex anyway.
Yep. Super annoying flicking back and forth. Forget where stuff is. Still trying to understand the 'rationale' for it all.

I hate it, I’m interested in women’s rights. I’d like to never have to hear or say anything about gender ideology again but i also want women to retain the rights wedge managed to acquire so unfortunately thats not an option

Unless one believes that there is any other type of woman than one who is a woman based on her sex, we don't need the 'sex-based' bit!

I like this idea- start every thread in this sub topic with 'Feminism'

It's laborious can't the main directory name be clickable? If you are in sex and gender debate you have to go back to Talk to be able to switch to Feminist chat. I want the dub directory before sex and gender, this will make it a lot easier to navigate.
Still disagree with the name of Sex and gender debate.

Really don't like it. I can swallow the split, but the name is rubbish. I'd be ok with women's sex-based rights.

On Debate

That's exactly what MN seem to think we are, from the behaviour of some of the Twitter staff and Justine's tone in the response on SiteStuff.

It's like we're in a mixture of a freak shoe and boxing ring and they are inviting those who disagree with feminism to glove up for a fight.

"Roll up, roll up. Weve got some feminists here, feisty gals. Come and tear a strip off them. All contenders welcome. The more you hate feminists the better. You can call them names but they aren't allowed to speak back. Roll up, roll up"

Interesting that MNHQ ignored all of us in terms of:
  • whether the split should take place or not
  • telling us why MNHQ thought the board should be split
  • what the new name should be

I would've preferred 'Women's Sex-Based Rights' if it had to be split at all.

Maybe they polled the very helpful folks on Twatter.

It’s also taking longer to read boards going back and forth as they just randomly chucked threads anywhere, I suppose they will move them back to feminism section once the men start making threads to debate sex and that other stuff I don’t believe in.
