The Royal Academy have removed Jess' work from their shop due to a handful of complaints that she's 'transphobic'. If you want to support Jess her website is here.

So sick of these utterly craven organisations. I hope she has a legal case against them for discrimination.

@YellowFish12

@ KellyWhite2 you ABSOLUTE SUPERSTAR

If you were to sell prints/postcards or something I would purchase from you.

Absolutely this. So would I.
334bu · 21/06/2021 13:00

Interesting that RA seems to have, for the moment, stopped posting on Twitter . Nothing since 16th

Cowbells · 21/06/2021 12:57

@KellyWhite2 - that image would look good on a teeshirt.

corkernewyorker · 21/06/2021 12:56

Interesting comments on the RA facebook page ra facebook

KellyWhite2 · 21/06/2021 12:55

TheFnozwhowasmirage Thank you honestly it’s bizarre I didn’t expect it to get much attention! I’d be honoured to collaborate with Jess but she’s so talented I’d have imposter syndrome immediately haha. When I’ve got my twins to bed tonight I’ll have a look at what I can put together, but if you have use for the design please feel free to use it. I’m a bit rusty on my drawing but what has happened to Jess has stoked an old fire so hopefully I’ll be able to do more works in future Smile

PearPickingPorky · 21/06/2021 12:54

Yes, I agree. There is certainly a case to be had for saying nothing.

I think that tactic only works of you do it BEFORE you put out a statement on social media to half a million follows calling someone transphobic and saying you'll stop working with her.

CriticalCondition · 21/06/2021 12:52

I love your drawing, Kelly White2! I too would buy cards or stickers if you were to produce them. And it would be very powerful printed or stitched on a face mask.
I think it would be a very fitting response to any cancelling or no platforming in future.

nauticant · 21/06/2021 12:47

.... someone needs to write a radio play detailing it .... Smile

Someone did write something along similar lines:

www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b09yh6mj

It was that naughty Mark Lawson again.

TheFnozwhowasmirage · 21/06/2021 12:44

KellyWhite2 Thank you. That piece is astounding and I'd love it on a t shirt. I was wondering how to get in touch to ask if it was ok for me to use it as a one off for myself. But if there's any chance of you producing one,I'd sooner but direct from you. You are very very talented.

So would I! Or a collaboration with JDW?
KellyWhite2 · 21/06/2021 12:35

Thank you Yellowfish and WinterTrees, I’ve never attempted to sell prints or T-shirt’s before but I’m going to have a look into it (I’m useless at this sort of thing 😬). Here’s hoping Jess continues to go from strength to strength after RA’s absolutely shocking treatment of her 😁

WinterTrees · 21/06/2021 12:31

And yes, I agree with YellowFish, if you can reproduce it yourself in any way I'd definitely buy from you!

WinterTrees · 21/06/2021 12:30

Oh wow KellyWhite2 your artwork was brilliant. I'm glad it's getting so much exposure - it's so powerful.

@NoTruckWithFrontedAdverbials

“dropping an artist I've only just heard of, called Jess de Wahls.' The 'only just heard of' letting us know how insignificant Fox thinks Jess is.

Many more trans commentators are using the same lines of a storey I know nothing about”

Yes, I felt that Katie Jon had a party line. That this is the new party line is a sign of great progress!

Nettie434 I do take your point but my “briefly famous trans woman” friend declined all interviews which were not about her personally/ where she lacked all expertise because she felt it would be disrespectful to listeners do otherwise. If I told you some of the topics she was asked to opine on you would think I was pulling your leg

NoTruckWithFrontedAdverbials

I have often wondered why certain people are contacted so it's nice to get an insider perspective. I think your friend's attitude is the right one but I was still pleased Katy spoke as accusations of transphobia have affected everyone from authors, to artists, to comedians and so it was possible to talk in general terms as they did.

Cailleach1 · 21/06/2021 12:29

Talking head, "Katie John" I think, on Radio 4 'This morning' misrepresented what is protected in the equality act. 'Gender Transition' or 'Gender identity' are not the protected characteristic of 'Gender Reassignment'.

Will Radio 4 correct this?

KellyWhite2 · 21/06/2021 12:27

Hi there somebody told me my rather simple sketch has been well received and I’ve not been in here in an age (used to be under the name NaviSprite 😅) but if anybody wants to use the image anywhere please feel free to do so! I’m glad people like it 😳

@merrymouse

I wonder if they are slow to comment because they are consulting lawyers?
In many cases people have consulted Stonewall, because that's who has advised them.

But now Stonewall has been found to misrepresent the law so maybe there are some entirely different sorts of arguments going on.

Datun · 21/06/2021 11:59

@PurgatoryOfPotholes

There have been many times when I have watched a company at the centre of a social media storm and thought, "just don't say anything! Less said, soonest mended".

This is not one of those cases. They made this atrocious decision right after Maya Forstater's judgement, and it's hit the national press.

Yes, I agree. There is certainly a case to be had for saying nothing.

But this isn't that case. And the longer it goes on, the more cowardly they look.

@RoyalCorgi

Can't believe the RA can cause all this, and then (some days later) not be up for going on Today to defend/explain its actions.

Best guess is that the RA is currently in full meltdown, with furious arguments raging about whose fault this is and what they should do now.

That still really doesn't explain why they've not even put anything out to even say they'll make a full statement as soon as they've clarified things, or whatever. Or given a reason why they wouldn't be interviewed on Today. Or responded to anyone getting in touch via their website or email. Not even the most neutral acknowledgement of any of this to the public, their members, the media, anyone.

They've just shut down and gone awol. Don't think I've ever seen a response like it.

"I don't exist to validate other people's idea of themselves" Jess de Wahls

That needs to be repeated and stated at every opportunity, it needs to be plastered in mile high letters everywhere.

Perfect and unarguable.

Agree - and this is at the core of the disagreement.

The GRA was written to protect the right to privacy (with some notable exceptions e.g. sport). It was not written because there is any general right to have identity validated, or a need for the state to classify innate identity.
